Lady Gaga Wanted To Play Love Interest In ‘Zoolander 2′?

491cd Lady Gaga Machete Kills Banner Lady Gaga Wanted To Play Love Interest In Zoolander 2?

Update: Well, that didn’t take long. Ben Stiller spoke out on Twitter to kill this rumor.

Original story:

Rumor has it that not only does Ben Stiller want Lady Gaga to join the cast of “Zoolander 2,” but he’s also offered her $4.8 million for the role.

We should preface this by saying that this news is about as far from confirmed as a story can be. But we’ve heard in the past that Stiller and co. were interested in getting Lady Gaga on board for the project, and a new story from The Sun seems to confirm that news. The British paper claims that Gaga has been asked to play a major role in the movie: the “love interest for the former model rivals,” played by Stiller and Owen Wilson.

The outlet also claims that Kate Moss, Kate Upton, Heidi Klum and Adriana Lima are all potential candidates should Gaga say no. We don’t see why she would, though, as Lady Gaga has already filmed her Hollywood debut in “Machete Kills.”

When MTV News caught up with Wilson two years ago, he said that he thought it was obligatory that Lady Gaga have a role in the movie.

“She has to be [in it]” he said, though at the time Wilson admitted that they hadn’t written a part for the Mother Monster yet. “But she definitely could be… maybe she makes a good foil for Hansel.”

Despite all this news involving “Zoolander 2,” Stiller told us in July that he’s not currently working on the movie. At least we did get treated with a guest appearance by Derek Zoolander on “Saturday Night Live” last October. That will have to keep us sated for now, though The Sun claims “Zoolander 2″ is supposed to start filming next year.

’47 Ronin’ Starring Keanu Reeves Delayed Until Christmas 2013

We’ve been anxiously awaiting the release of “47 Ronin” since Keanu Reeves was first attached to the project in late 2008, and now it looks like we’re going to have to wait a bit longer.

[ video unavailable on this device ]

Universal Pictures has announced a few changes in its release date line-up, as reported by Deadline. The new schedule will bump “47 Ronin” all the way back to Christmas Day 2013, where it will face off against Ben Stiller‘s remake of “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.” “47 Ronin” was originally scheduled to be released in November, but was moved back to February for reshoots. It seems like they’re taking longer than the studio expected, or there’s some other factor at play that’s causing the lengthy delay of the film.

“47 Ronin” has been something of a passion project for Reeves, who signed on back in December 2008. The film nabbed director Carl Rinsch nearly a year later, opting to helm this project over the rumored “Alien 5.” The script was written by Chris Morgan, the same man who penned “Fast Five.” Back in 2009, he described the samurai film as similar to “300″ and “Gladiator.”

“I call it a story of revenge and impossible love,” Reeves told MTV News last year. “The samurai become outcast and decide to enact revenge on the person who is responsible for the death of their lord.”

He continued, “During this journey and revenge, things change.”

Among the many reasons we’re excited for this project, Reeves has said there’s a swordfight between him and Hiroyuki Sanada, the esteemed Japanese actor of “Sunshine” and “The Last Samurai” fame. Hopefully that isn’t one of the scenes that needs to be reshot, because the way Reeves described it made it sound freaking awesome.

Johnny Depp To Star In Wes Anderson’s Next Movie

Director/Writer Wes Anderson makes quirky, crazily detail-oriented films that manage to rope in an impressive roster of stars, from frequent collaborators Bill Murray and Owen Wilson, to Ben Stiller, Gene Hackman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Cate Blanchett, Willem Dafoe, George Clooney and Meryl Streep.

And now, you can add Johnny Depp to the list. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Depp has signed on to work with Anderson on his next film, “The Grand Budapest Hotel,” which the superstar actor is expected to headline once he finishes his work on “The Lone Ranger.”
Anderson wrote the script for the movie, though few details are known at present about the storyline or Depp’s character. The new film follows the recent worldwide release of Anderson’s summer camp teen love tale, “Moonrise Kingdom,”
which starred unknown pair Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward as the Romeo and Juliet-like pair who make a pact to run away together.

A number of the usual Anderson suspects filled out the cast, including Murray and Jason Schwartzman, as well as Bruce Willis, Edward Norton, Frances McDormand and Tilda Swinton.

“Budapest” will mark Anderson’s first time shooting a film in Europe and he is said to be courting a number of his old pals for supporting roles, including Murray and Owen Wilson, as well as Norton, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum, Angela Landsbury, Jude Law and Adrien Brody.
“Moonrise” was Anderson’s first live-action film in five years, coming after the director took a detour in 2009 into stop-motion animation with “Fantastic Mr. Fox,” based on the Roald Dahl children’s novel of the same name.

Tom Cruise Tops Highest Paid Actors List

Tom Cruise Tops Highest Paid Actors List

Tom Cruise might be down on his luck in love, but at least he’s doing pretty well for himself in the money department.

Forbes has put out their annual list of the highest paid actors in Hollywood and, considering the year he’s had, it’s unsurprising that Cruise is on top. Between the great success of “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol” and his recent paycheck for Joseph Kosinski’s “Oblivion,” Cruise made a whopping $75 million over the past 12 months.

That puts him far ahead of the rest of the pack. Leonardo DiCaprio and Adam Sandler tied for second place, each making $37 million this past year. DiCaprio managed to eek out quite a few dollars for his upcoming film slate, which includes “The Great Gatsby,” “Django Unchained” and “The Wolf of Wall Street.” Meanwhile, Sandler released quite a few critical flops that were box office successes like “Jack and Jill” and “Grown Ups,” and can still walk away from this and call it a successful year.

Rounding out the top five are Dwayne Johnson with a well-deserved $36 million and Ben Stiller with $33 million. Johnson helped boost the box office intakes of established franchises like “The Fast and the Furious” and “Journey to the Center of the Earth,” and is front-and-center in the new “G.I. Joe” movie. Meanwhile, Stiller continues to make the big bucks from his cash cow series’ like “Meet the Parents” and “Madagascar,” as well as new films like “Tower Heist” and “The Watch.”

Finishing up the list are Sacha Baron Cohen, Johnny Depp and Will Smith with $30 million a piece, Mark Wahlberg with $27 million and Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson with $26.5 million.

‘Madagascar 3′ Tramples Tom Cruise, Adam Sandler At Box Office

Neither nostalgia for ’80s hair metal nor a team-up of former “SNL” castmembers could overcome a bunch of homesick zoo animals at the box office over the weekend.

“Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted” was the #1 movie in America for a second weekend in a row, as families celebrated Father’s Day with the voices of Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, Jada Pinkett Smith and David Schwimmer to the tune of another $35.5 million. But both of the weekend’s big new studio pics, “Rock of Ages” and “That’s My Boy,” underperformed, leaving the #2 slot for “Prometheus” to claim for a second consecutive week. The (sort of) “Alien” prequel took in another $20.2 million.

As a group of industry experts predicted to MTV News last week, the weekend looked something like June 25–27, 2010, when an animated threequel held on to the top spot against new movies from A-listers Tom Cruise and Adam Sandler. Two years ago, it was “Knight and Day” and “Grown Ups.” This time it was Cruise (with an ensemble) in the $75 million movie “Rock of Ages,” which debuted at #3 with just $15.1 million, and Sandler in “That’s My Boy,” which was #5 with $13 million.

Madagascar 3″ has outperformed both “Madagascar” and “Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa” with its 10-day total of $120 million. “Prometheus” has made $88.9 million since it was released, even as audiences, critics and fans continue to debate its plot (and its co-writer spilled some of its secrets to MTV News).

Based on the Broadway musical of the same name, which incorporated ’80s hair-metal anthems from groups like Def Leppard and Poison, “Rock of Ages” boasts an ensemble that includes Cruise, Alec Baldwin, Catherine Zeta Jones and 2012 MTV Movie Awards host Russell Brand, but it failed to excite critics or audiences. As Box Office Mojo pointed out on Sunday, previous summer musicals like “Mamma Mia!” and “Hairspray” enjoyed much stronger openings. Cruise’s “Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol” did fantastic business when it opened in December of last year. This December, he’ll return in the similarly action-oriented “Jack Reacher.”

Sandler saw his worst opening ever with “That’s My Boy,” which teamed the comedian with Andy Samberg in the R-rated father-and-son comedy. Film critics often reject Sandler’s movies (with a few notable exceptions, like the brainier “Punch Drunk Love”), and their reaction to “That’s My Boy” was no different. Of course, they were even more harsh to “Jack and Jill,” which still managed to make $74.1 million domestically. “That’s My Boy” doesn’t look likely to make anywhere close to that. Sandler, who made some of his earliest appearances on MTV‘s “Remote Control” before breaking out on “Saturday Night Live,” will co-star in “Grown Ups 2″ next summer. Samberg, who just left “Saturday Night Live” after the conclusion of the most recent season, recently signed on to a new series on the BBC called “Cuckoo.”

The #4 slot at the box office belonged to “Snow White and the Huntsman,” which debuted at #1 three weeks ago. The darker, more action-oriented take on the classic tale starring Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth made $13.8 million over the weekend for a $122.6 million total. Speaking of Hemsworth, the year’s biggest box-office juggernaut (in which he costars as the hammer-wielding Asgardian hero Thor) took in another $8.8 million. “Marvel’s The Avengers” has made $586.7 domestically. Hemsworth, of course, will return in “Thor 2″ and appears to be set for the recently green-lit sequel to “Huntsman” as well.

Of course it wasn’t all big-studio pictures about cartoon animals, aliens, fictitious rock stars and “SNL” veterans in theaters over the weekend. “Your Sister’s Sister” debuted with $117,000 — a strong $9,000-per-screen average in just 13 locations. “Safety Not Guaranteed,” starring “Parks and Recreation” comedienne Aubrey Plaza, made $6,200 per screen as it expanded to 47 theaters. “Best Exotic Marigold Hotel” remained in the top 10 despite playing in a quarter of the locations of “Rock of Ages.” The Fox Searchlight film has made $35 million since it was released nearly two months ago. Wes Anderson’s “Moonrise Kingdom,” now in 178 theaters, has made $2.2 million.

Next weekend’s new releases include the latest from Disney/Pixar, “Brave”; the film adaptation of “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”; Steve Carrell’s “Seeking a Friend for the End of the World”; and in limited release, Woody Allen’s “To Rome With Love”; and the incredibly well-reviewed drama “Beasts of the Southern Wild.”

Ben Stiller Has Aged Quickly In New ‘Walter Mitty’ Photos

c6f0b waltermitty Ben Stiller Has Aged Quickly In New Walter Mitty Photos

No, there hasn’t been a new person cast as the title character in the upcoming remake of “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.” That is still Ben Stiller, despite the fact that he looks like he could be about 75 years old.

These new images from the film come courtesy of The Blemish, and show Stiller and his costar, Kristin Wiig, wearing some heavy prosthetics to look a lot older than they actually are. In fact, we didn’t even recognize Stiller at first glance. Hopefully this isn’t a sign of how he’ll actually look when he gets to that age, because he’s got quite the classic grandpa look going on.

Wiig, on the other hand, looks pretty much the same as she always does. Despite her unhappy expression, we’ve seen her put on crazier get-ups in Saturday Night Live.

Somehow we doubt she and Stiller spend the entire movie looking this elderly, so we have a feeling that they are shooting some of Walter Mitty‘s fantasy scenes in these shots. It sort of looks like this scene takes place around Christmas time.

Based on the short story by James Thurber and the 1947 film of the same name, “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” tells the tale of a lonely magazine photo manager named Walter Mitty who has daydreams inspired by the people’s pictures he looks at. But he gets thrust out of that fantasy world when one of his negatives goes missing and he must go on a quest to find it.

“The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” also stars Sean Penn, Patton Oswalt and Adam Scott. It’s due in theaters on December 25, 2013.

‘Prometheus’ Vs. ‘Madagascar’: A Weekend Box-Office Preview

“Prometheus” predecessor “Alien vs. Predator” was something dreamed up in comic books that eventually made its way to theaters. This weekend, the big-screen baddies who originated in the 1979 classic “Alien” will battle perhaps their most fearsome foe yet: animals. Furry, brightly colored, cartoon animals. With celebrity voices.

Whether the actual Xenomorphs seen in the movies that preceded Ridley Scott‘s new (sort-of) prequel show up onscreen won’t be spoiled here. But one thing is for certain: “Prometheus” will face off against “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted” this weekend in a box-office race observers say will be extremely close.

“Our predictions are a $51 million opening for ‘Prometheus’ and a $49 million opening for ‘Madagascar,’ which is our way of saying it’s a coin flip,” BoxOffice.com editor Phil Contrino told MTV News. “We’re giving the slight edge to ‘Prometheus.’ “

As of late Thursday, movie-ticket service Fandango reported that “Prometheus” led the weekend’s new releases with 51 percent of the day’s ticket sales, which lends support to BoxOffice.com’s prediction. However, Jeff Bock, box-office analyst for Exhibitor Relations, put the slight advantage with the kid flick instead.

” ‘Madagascar‘ may have the edge as it’s already June and we’re seeing the first real family film to hit multiplexes. It’s opening in 1,000 more theaters than ‘Prometheus.’ It should be a close race though, with ‘Prometheus’ winning Friday and ‘Madagascar 3′ easily taking Saturday.”

DreamWorks Animation’s “Madagascar 3″ reunites the voice cast of Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer and Jada Pinkett Smith as Central Park Zoo animals looking to get back home. “Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa” opened at #1 with $63.1 million in 2008, eventually collecting $180 million domestically. The first film grossed $193 million. “Franchises aimed at children tend to lose steam in the third installment, at least domestically,” said Contrino, who pointed to the latest “Alvin and the Chipmunks” movie as an example. The first made $217 million, the second $219 million, while “Chipwrecked” collected just $133 million late last year.

Originally conceived as a straight prequel to Scott’s original “Alien” film, “Prometheus” evolved into something that takes place in the same universe but will explore its own story threads apart from the “Alien” franchise. Like the other films, however, it’s a blend of dark themes, horror and action. It features strong female characters in prominent roles, alien baddies and a sinister futuristic corporation with less-than-altruistic motives. Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender and Guy Pearce co-star, along with Charlize Theron, who was in last weekend’s #1 film, “Snow White and the Huntsman.”

“Prometheus” carries an R rating, whereas “Madagascar” is PG. “If ‘Prometheus’ was rated PG-13, it would have a much better chance of taking the top spot,” Bock said. “But both films should be able to open big on the same weekend [despite the ratings] as they are geared for very different demos.”

Contrino said that the perceived commercial disadvantage of an R-rating is largely overblown. “The R-rating is not to be feared as much as it is. Whenever something comes along that’s rated R, people panic. I really don’t get it. Teens and children are not the only ones who buy tickets. In fact, adults are a more reliable target to go after because they are the decision makers. If an adult really doesn’t want to see ‘Madagascar 3,’ then they’ll find a way to wriggle out of it.”

Both box-office experts agree that Fox’s promotion of “Prometheus” has been respectably effective.

“I think 20th Century Fox has done an excellent job marketing ‘Prometheus,’ ” Contrino said. “I expect that even people who aren’t die-hard fans of the original films are going to show up. We track Facebook and Twitter and we saw big surges in activity for ‘Prometheus’ every time a trailer was released.”

As much as the concept evolved away from films like “Alien: Resurrection” and the “AVP” movies, Bock said keeping some connection with the franchise has helped.

“Hits in the horror/sci-fi genre are far and few between. In fact, the ‘Alien’ franchise is really the only success story in this arena, so linking ‘Prometheus’ to ‘Alien’ with ‘DNA‘ was exactly the right play by the studio,” Bock said. “The marketing has been spine-tingling from a fan standpoint with all the moody imagery, ghostly glimpses of the mayhem and behind-the-scene trailers. It has many people making this film the centerpiece of their weekend. That’s an event film, and that’s what Fox has succeeded in creating. It remains to be seen if it connected to mainstream audiences, though. We’ll find out the answer to that this weekend.”

Recent weekend warriors “Snow White and the Huntsman” and “Men in Black 3″ will, of course, have to settle for lower spots behind these two films. As for 2012′s biggest box-office story thus far? “Marvel’s The Avengers” may have to settle for fifth, Bock said, “but with $560 million and counting already, it has already earned its place as one of the biggest box-office hits of all time.”

“It’s going to have to scratch and claw its way to $600 million domestically, but I believe it still has a shot,” Contrino said of the mighty superhero team-up film, which has made more than $1 billion worldwide. “The emergence of ‘Prometheus’ is going to kill any repeat viewings that might have happened this weekend.”

Other films opening this weekend include Robert Pattinson‘s poorly reviewed “Bel Ami,” which carried a 31 percent critical average on Rotten Tomatoes at press time; “Safety Not Guaranteed,” from the producers of “Little Miss Sunshine”; Greta Gerwig’s “Lola Versus”; and filmmaker Todd Solondz’s “Dark Horse.”
