Skrillex And Boys Noize ‘Collide’ As Dog Blood

While the rest of us are scrambling for last-minute New Year’s Eve plans, the biggest DJs in the world all know exactly where they’ll be. Boys Noize and Skrillex are no different — except this year they will both be performing for the first time together as their new collaboration Dog Blood. As the first project from the two electronica powerhouses, hopes are high for their Detroit unveiling on December 31.

According to Boys Noize, it was the city of Berlin that brought him and Skrillex together this past summer. Just hanging out and listening to music in a recording studio evolved into a creative collaboration.

Despite both DJ/producers having great success and popularity in the EDM world, the two have fundamental differences in their artistic process and method when creating music.

“It’s crazy, he does everything on his laptop,” the analog-friendly Alex Ridha (a.k.a. Boys Noize) explained to MTV News of Skrillex’s technique.”For me personally, I like the gear because I can always treat things.

Snoop Lion helps Boys Noize relax!

“For me that was the fun part,” Ridha continued. “Where I was recording on my gear, he was typing in files. He was doing that and screwing it up in his thing. It was really two worlds colliding. It was important for us to make something different than what he would do, or something that I would do — and meet in the middle.”

Fans can expect even more music from Dog Blood as the year goes on, as Ridha confessed to three or four tracks having already been recorded. Now, it’s a question of how and when.

After performing at “The Bang” event on New Year’s Eve alongside the likes of Flosstradamus, Alvin Risk, D.I.M. and Destructo, the duo will go on at the afterparty, bringing in 2013 as Dog Blood.

What do you think of the Dog Blood collaborative effort? Tell us in the comments!

Angelina Jolie To Direct World War II Drama ‘Unbroken’

Angelina Jolie is ready to get behind the camera again. The actress is finalizing a deal to direct her second film, the World War II drama “Unbroken,” according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The movie is an adaptation of the 2010 best-selling book by Laura Hillenbrand, which spent 108 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list, including 14 weeks at #1. It focuses on Olympic athlete and war veteran Louis Zamperini, who survived a plane crash during the war, clinging to life on a raft for 47 days before being captured by the Japanese and sentenced to a prisoner of war camp.

“I read Laura Hillenbrand‘s brilliant book, and I was so moved by Louie Zamperini‘s heroic story, I immediately began to fight for the opportunity to make this film,” Jolie said in a statement announcing the movie. “Louie is a true hero and a man of immense humanity, faith and courage. I am deeply honored to have the chance to tell his inspiring story.”

The subject matter is right up Jolie’s alley. She made her directorial debut in 2011 with “In the Land of Blood and Honey,” which chronicled a love story in the midst of the 1990s Bosnian war. The latest draft of the script is by “Gladiator” and “Les Misérables” co-writer William Nicholson.

Zamperini was a track prodigy who traveled to Berlin in 1936 for the Olympics at age 19 and though he didn’t medal, his speedy final lap in the 5,000 meter race so impressed Adolf Hitler that the German dictator requested a personal meeting with the runner. He enlisted in the Air Force in September 1941 and in April 1942 his plane went down in the ocean, killing eight of the 11 men onboard.

The survivors lived on rainwater and raw fish and survived a bombing by a Japanese airplane before Zamperini, now 96, and another man, Russell Phillips, reached the Marshall Islands and were captured by the Japanese Navy and held in captivity until August 1945.

Josh Hutcherson Shares What He’s Thankful For In 2012

Josh Hutcherson has had a big year. The one-time “Bridge to Terabithia” actor starred in another major adaptation, “The Hunger Games,” and became a household name thanks to his portrayal of Peeta Mellark in the box office hit. When MTV News caught up with Hutcherson recently to talk about all the things he’s had to be thankful for in 2012, the actor admitted that he knows how lucky he is.

“I’m very thankful [for 2012] as well,” Hutcherson said. “I had a lot of work that came out this year and was pretty successful thus far, so it was exciting for me. It definitely exceeded my expectations.”

But it’s not just the fact that he had three films come out that has Hutcherson feeling thankful. He said he’s also experienced many things this year that he never had before.

“I had a lot of firsts this year. I went to Paris, London and Berlin for the first time, so I got to see a lot of new places,” he said. “I had a blast. The press tour was so fun with me and Liam [Hemsworth] and Jen [Lawrence] and [director] Gary [Marshall] flying all over the world together. … Being with Liam and Jen was great because we were experiencing something brand-new to all of us. I think Liam had the most experience dealing with [a lot of press], just because of him and [his engagement to] Miley [Cyrus], but having really good people experiencing it with you made it a lot easier.”

He’s also glad he’s looking to have a similarly successful year in 2013. With “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” due out and the final two “Hunger Games” movies to film, Hutcherson has lots to look forward to next year.

“There is the obvious that everybody will say, which is a better economy and a better America, so I hope for a better economy, a better America,” he said. “Outside of that, we’re shooting the next two ‘Hunger Games‘ movies back-to-back, and then I’m shooting another ‘Journey,’ so as long as the world doesn’t end, I have a busy 2013 coming up.”

What are you thankful for? Let us know in the comments section below or on Twitter!

‘Hunger Games’ Star Josh Hutcherson Thankful For ‘A Lot Of Firsts’ In 2012

If you’re a movie fan, 2012 has been a pretty great year. And even though it’s a little early to be thinking about the best of this year, since a lot of potential awards contenders have not yet hit theaters, we have no qualms about naming “Breaking Dawn – Part 2,” “The Avengers” and “The Hunger Games” as the 2012 films we’re most thankful for.

Here to represent the blockbuster big-screen adaptation of Suzanne Collins‘ bestseller is star Josh Hutcherson, who stopped by MTV News recently to chat about his very big 2012.

“I’m very thankful [for 2012] as well,” Hutcherson said. “I had a lot of work that came out this year and was pretty successful thus far, so it was exciting for me. It definitely exceeded my expectations.”

Speaking specifically to “The Hunger Games,” Hutcherson said that in embarking upon an international press tour, he was able to see just how widespread the enthusiasm is for the film, as well as experience a couple big “firsts.”

Hutcherson isn’t just thankful for “The Hunger Games” in the last year; he’s also happy to have discovered new music and grateful for a second season of the saucy reality show “Gigolos.”

“I’m thankful that I’ve been turned on to the Lumineers,” Hutcherson said of the “Ho Hey” group. “I am still watching ‘Gigolos.’ I haven’t been caught up to date on the latest episode, but when I was in Atlanta, I was getting my Gigolo on — I was watching the ‘Gigolos’ TV show.”

Something else Hutcherson is keeping up with is Kim Kardashian — on Twitter, that is, though he didn’t seem aware of that fact.

“I follow Kim Kardashian?” he said when asked about how he chooses who he follows on the social-networking site. “I have my reasons,” he added with a smile. “They are top-secret. I can’t divulge my secrets.”

Finally, what does Mr. Hutcherson want for his 2013 in order for it to outdo the successes he enjoyed in 2012? As it turns out, the 20-year-old has his mind not only on himself, but on the bigger picture.

Rihanna Jets Off For ’777′ Tour With Fans On Board

Rihanna, the hit-making machine, is celebrating the release of her seventh album Unapologetic with her larger than life 777 tour and we have an inside look for you. Check out footage above.

This tour will cross seven countries in seven days and the “Diamonds” singer will be far from lonely on her trip since she’s being accompanied by an army of 150 journalists as well as a group of her most dedicated fans. The fans landed their coveted spots by calling into radio shows, winning Twitter competitions and basically attacking every social media platform with crazy amounts of Rihanna love.

The tour kicked off on Wednesday (November 14) with its first destination, Mexico City. After that the fully equipped Boeing 777 will touch down in Toronto, Stockholm, Paris, Berlin, London and New York. Very few details were released about the performances other than the fact that each venue is smaller the normal arenas the songstress sells out.

The journalists are in for a ride, with MTV Style’s own Mary H.K. Choi and Maud Deitch on board the plane. The release of Unapologetic falls on the day her tour reaches London, on November 19.

Rihanna Gears Up For 777 Tour, A ‘Rock And Roll Adventure’

Wondering where Rihanna‘s 777 Tour might touch down when it kicks off on Wednesday? Well, wonder no more. The Unapologetic singer has unveiled the details of her globetrotting promotional tour, and MTV News will be there to capture every moment.

MTV will be aboard her Boeing 777 twinjet to bring you all the updates from the weeklong trek beginning Wednesday, when it kicks off in Mexico City. The tour will then make its way around the world with stops planned for Toronto, Stockholm, Paris, Berlin, London and finally New York on November 20, one day after her Unapologetic album drops.

Rihanna strips down for GQ and addresses the Drake/Chris Brown brawl.

The promotional tour is named for the fact that she will be playing seven shows in seven days in seven different countries. And she’s inviting us, along with 150 journalists and fans, along for what she assures will be an “adventure.”

“We are turning this jumbo jet into our tour bus,” Rihanna said in a statement according to The Hollywood Reporter. “We’re practically living on this thing for a week: sleeping, partying, all together. Me, my fans, the press…it’s going to be a wild ride. I wanted it to be a rock and roll adventure, and I think when it’s over it will be the coolest thing I’ve ever done.”

Rihanna’s Unapologetic is defiant!

Rihanna is set to drop her much-anticipated seventh studio album, Unapologetic, on November 19. And when MTV News caught up with the singer ahead of the album’s release, she shared how its lead single, “Diamonds,” reflects the personal nature of the release.

“It was a song that meant something, and that’s the whole theme throughout the album,” she said. “I think a lot of people are afraid of being happy because of what others might think of it. … They’re afraid to embrace that and embrace themselves and love themselves and do what they love and do what makes them happy.”

Stick with MTV News, MTV Style and MTV Buzzworthy blog all week as we bring you the latest updates from Rihanna’s globetrotting tour.

‘Cloud Atlas’ Leaves Halle Berry Unrecognizable To Her Co-Stars

You know you’re involved in a unique and interesting film when you can’t even recognize your famous co-stars on set.

Such is the case with “Cloud Atlas,” the “cranial plate shift of a film” based on David Mitchell‘s novel of the same name. It is a visually stunning film that follows the stories of six individuals and the seemingly impossible connection they all share across time and space, one that required its cast to take on multiple parts, personas and genders. And the results of which often rendered the recognizable faces of Halle Berry, Hugh Grant, Susan Sarandon and Jim Sturgess totally unrecognizable.

MTV news recently caught up with the cast to discuss their makeup and which character in the film surprised them most.

“I didn’t recognize Ben Whishaw when he was in the hut scene [with us],” Berry admitted. “And he was in the whole scene.”

“How about that? So Ben Whishaw, who is in a third of the movie, I didn’t know he was in that scene until I saw the movie in Toronto,” Tom Hanks agreed. “Who was he? I didn’t know he was there that day.

“Hugh [Grant] rode by on a horse a couple of times. I didn’t know it was him,” Hanks added. “It happened all the time. We were in Berlin doing extensive makeup tests, and during that time, we kept passing each other in the hallway. It was always this amazing moment, ‘Who are you today? Who are you turned into?’ “

“Seeing Hugo Weaving as Nurse Noakes for the first time was pretty remarkable,” Whishaw said.

“Yeah, he really looked nothing like Hugo at all,” James D’arcy agreed. “There’s a character that Halle plays in the film that I didn’t recognize at all. Even when she was on set that day playing that role, I didn’t recognize her at all.”

Berry’s role as an older Korean man with a special futuristic mechanical eye seemed to strike most of her co-stars as the most surprising.

“I think Halle had some of the biggest transformations. She played an older person, she played a man that was Korean. I remember having to have a conversation with her while we were shooting that scene,” Jim Sturgess recalled. “It was the most surreal kind of messed-up moment. We were talking about her kid and how she’s integrating into German schools, but she was dressed as this bizarre-looking Korean man with rotting teeth. It tripped my head up. I had to go sit in a corner for five minutes and get my head together.”

Check out everything we’ve got on “Cloud Atlas.”
