Horror Anthology ‘The ABCs Of Death’ To Get A Sequel

samplesale juhgb Horror Anthology The ABCs Of Death To Get A Sequel

There are 26 letters in the English alphabet, but there are going to be two movies about “The ABCs of Death.” A sequel to the creepy anthology is on the way, and filmmakers are promising a leaner and meaner set of horrors. You remember how this works: each director creates a short based on a theme related to a letter of the alphabet, and of course, death. Alex de la Iglesia (“The Last Circus”), Rodney Ascher (“Room 237″), and Academy Award-nominated animator Bill Plympton have already signed on to direct, plus there will be another competition to find the 26th filmmaker. The sequel is planned for a 2014 release, so you have plenty of time to break out your camera and get to work.

We’re Officially Getting a ‘Gremlins’ Reboot
We brought you news earlier in the year about a potential reboot of Joe Dante‘s horror classic “Gremlins,” and it looks like midnight is approaching faster than we thought. Warner Bros. is moving ahead with their remake of the 1984 film about a boy who receives an adorable, exotic pet for Christmas, but quickly finds out that the breed transforms into a destructive creature if not fed and cared for strictly by the rules. “Dark Shadows” and “Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter” writer Seth Grahame-Smith will be co-producing the project, and the studio is currently searching for a director. Does this remake stand a chance for success, or will it become a total CG monstrosity?

‘From Dusk Till Dawn’ Will Become a Robert Rodriguez TV Series
The vampires of Robert Rodriguez’s From “Dusk till Dawn” will live on in a television adaptation. The director is getting his own TV network, El Ray, and his 1996 cult flick—starring and written by Quentin Tarantino— is one of two shows ready for the small-screen treatment. We’d love to see Salma Hayek perform her sexy snake dance again or George Clooney, Tarantino, and Juliette Lewis destroying vamps once more, but the chances of that happening are less than zero. The good news is that Rodriguez is still involved and will surely give the fans what they want: sex, gore, and action. Are you excited to see what the filmmaker can get away with on network TV?

“Saw II” Director to Enter the World of Devil-Worshiping Cult
“Saw II,” “Repo! the Genetic Opera,” and “The Devil’s Carnival” filmmaker Darren Lynn Bousman will be directing the horror-thriller “Sacrilege.” When a family reunites with their kidnapped and brainwashed son after three years apart, their lives are turned upside down when they realize the boy’s time with a devil-worshiping cult has created a monster. No cast has been announced yet. Bousman called the script one of the most “intense and macabre” he’s ever read, which is a big deal considering this is the same guy who directed three “Saw” movies.

‘Gravity’ Trailer Shows Off The Horror Of Outer Space

Gravity Trailer Shows Off The Horror Of Outer Space

After what has literally been years of waiting, the trailer for Alfonso Cuaron’s “Gravity” has arrived. The film, which stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney, is a terrifying sci-fi epic that Guillermo del Toro has promised will blow our minds, and now we can see why.

The trailer for “Gravity” goes light on the plot and heavy on the visual splendor. “Gravity” tells the story of Bullock’s Dr. Ryan Stone and Clooney’s astronaut Matt Kowalsky after their space ship gets destroyed and they get stranded out in space. Cuaron seems to have intentionally shot those scenes of destruction to be terrifying, but nothing is more chilling here than the final shot of Stone drifting alone out in space. Check out the trailer below.

Though this is a 2D trailer, it’s easy to see how “Gravity” will transform well into a 3D picture. This will be Cuaron’s first 3D film, but it seems like he’s found a way to use the medium to make space seem both massive and claustrophobic. If he succeeds, that element will make “Gravity” a unique type of science fiction film.

When MTV News spoke to del Toro back in 2011, he talked at length about the new technology Cuaron created to shoot “Gravity.” According to him, Cuaron’s “Gravity” mixes James Cameron‘s love of new technological ideas with Stanley Kubrick‘s futuristic vision.

“['Gravity' is] absolutely pushing a new boundary in filmmaking, completely mindblowing. And the way they’re making that movie will, I think, forever change certain types of productions,” he said.

Apparently even Cameron didn’t think the film could be made, but Cuaron proved him wrong. “Jim said, ‘Well you know, look, you’re about five years into the future.’ When Jim said that it’s too early to try anything that crazy, they did it,” said del Toro.

“Gravity” is due in theaters on October 4.

Even in the brief clip, you can already see the impressive effects work that has taken a long time to perfect.

Check out the teaser for “Gravity” after the jump!

Official synopsis:

Dr. Ryan Stone (Sandra Bullock) is a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (George Clooney). But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone—tethered to nothing but each other and spiraling out into the blackness. The deafening silence tells them they have lost any link to Earth…and any chance for rescue. As fear turns to panic, every gulp of air eats away at what little oxygen is left. But the only way home may be to go further out into the terrifying expanse of space.

Gravity opens on October 4th.

Is This What ‘Tomorrowland’ Is Really About?

Is This What Tomorrowland Is Really About?

There has been a ton of speculation about Damon Lindelof and Brad Bird##Q##s sci-fi collaboration “Tomorrowland” (named after a Disney theme world), formerly titled “1952.” Plot comparisons to Steven Spielberg##Q##s “Close Encounters” had fans extremely excited, and then a fascinating article from entertainment journalist and Disney expert Jim Hill popped up that took the mysterious project in a slightly different direction.

Hill claimed the film, inspired by a box of Disney World memorabilia circa 1952, would be based on an unproduced television series that the U.S. government approached Walt with. The show would reveal to American audiences that those alien buggers they had been hearing about all over the news were real. A scoop on website HitFix, however, suggests yet another possibility — one that could be even stranger than the “UFOs are real” plotline. A leaked synopsis being used by a Hollywood agency to cast the 2014 film reads as follows:

“A teenage girl, a genius middle-aged man (who was kicked out of Tomorrowland) and a pre-pubescent girl robot attempt to get to and unravel what happened to Tomorrowland, which exists in an alternative dimension, in order to save Earth.”

George Clooney, who joined the project last year, will play the banished Frank Walker who wants to join the nefarious David Nix (to be played by Hugh Laurie) in his Tomorrowland world. Sadly, the young inventor##Q##s gadgets don##Q##t impress Nix when the two meet at the 1964 World##Q##s Fair. A young girl befriends Walker when she sees him being rejected and sneaks him into Tomorrowland.

Inter-dimensional travel bodes well for Walker, who then falls in love with a young girl named Athena. She##Q##s actually an android. Nix discovers the undercover Walker, boots him out (along with every other “creative thinker” in his world), and Tomorrowland becomes a corrupt place for Nix##Q##s personal gain.

Later, a now middle-aged Walker teams up with a heroic, scientific young woman named Casey and his former robot ladylove to dethrone Nix and restore peace. HitFix concludes: “There##Q##s interdimensional travel, human-looking robots, and a quest for revenge on the part of Frank. He is a bitter adult, and the film is not just about Casey##Q##s adventure, but also about Frank rediscovering the kid he used to be. It sounds like young Frank actually plays a decent-sized role in the film, so we may see both timelines play out to some extent.”

Whew. After you##Q##ve digested all this, it##Q##s worth heading over to HitFix for more details. What##Q##s incredible is this was all apparently inspired by that box we mentioned, which contained archival photos of Walt Disney, mysterious envelopes, a 1928 copy of “Amazing Stories” (which features Philip Francis Nowlan##Q##s Buck Rogers character for the first time), a strange metal object, and other curious goodies.

While this is just a rumor for now, who can you see playing the eternally young android and quick-witted Casey? We can##Q##t see the studio casting a pre-teen actress, because it would seem pretty creepy where the love interest storyline is concerned. Someone like Dakota Fanning, who played another otherworldly creature in the “Twilight” films, still looks young enough to pull it off. Ellen Page has our vote for Casey, with thoughts of her savvy architecture student, Ariadne, from Christopher Nolan##Q##s “Inception” on our minds. Could Chloë Grace Moretz also be a great Casey contender?

Hugh Laurie Considering ‘Tomorrowland’ Villain Role

Hugh Laurie Considering Tomorrowland Villain Role

Brad Bird’s “Tomorrowland” is close to casting a formidable villain. It’s being reported that Hugh Laurie is in talks to play the top-secret project’s antagonist.

The Hollywood Reporter has the news about Laurie, though no hints as to who his character is or why he will act as a villain. In fact, very few details are known about the project beyond the fact it used to be called “1952″ and is supposed to be similar to “Close Encounters of the Third Kind.”

Already cast in the movie is George Clooney, though there aren’t any details about who he will play either. “Tomorrowland” was written by Damon Lindelof and Entertainment Weekly‘s Jeff Jensen, and its plot is being kept a big secret. In a world of “Star Trek Into Darknesses” and “Cloverfields,” super secret movies are alright by us.

Even though Laurie is in talks for “Tomorrowland,” his casting is far from a guarantee. He had also circled the villain role in “RoboCop,” but ultimately turned it down. That part went to Michael Keaton instead.

George Clooney Teams With ‘Bourne’ Director, ‘Argo’ Writer For Crime Drama

e10ea clooney George Clooney Teams With Bourne Director, Argo Writer For Crime Drama

Tempting as it is, try to resist the urge to tell the following news to “Argo” eff itself: “Bourne Supremacy” and “Ultimatum” director Paul Greengrass is teaming up with the writer of Ben Affleck‘s hostage drama and none other than George Clooney for a crime drama all their own.

Variety has the news that Greengrass, Clooney and “Argo” writer Chris Terrio are joining forces for an untitled crime drama. Details on the title and plot are completely under wraps; for now, all that’s known is the film is “set in the world of New York criminal syndicates.”

Honestly, that’s more than enough information for the time being, as the talent alone is enough to demand attention: Greengrass behind the lens, Clooney producing (alongside his Smoke House producing partner Grant Heslov) and starring, Terrio on the script. With those ingredients in place, what more do you need to know right now?

George Clooney Gathers Daniel Craig, Bill Murray And More For ‘Monuments Men’

fc789 Craig Clooney Murray George Clooney Gathers Daniel Craig, Bill Murray And More For Monuments Men

George Clooney has assembled an impressive cast for his fifth directorial effort, “The Monuments Men.”

Like the previous films he’s directed, Clooney will star in the upcoming World War II drama. But Deadline is reporting that the movie will also star Daniel Craig, Bill Murray, Jean Dujardin, John Goodman, Cate Blanchett, Hugh Bonneville and Bob Balaban. We guess when you’re George Clooney you really do have the pick of the litter for your projects.

It’s sort of like Clooney went through all of our favorite movies and picked out the actors that appear in the most of them. Murray and Goodman can do no wrong in our eyes, while Blanchett is consistently flawless and Craig apparently kills it in the upcoming Bond film “Skyfall.” Meanwhile, Dujardin made a huge splash in “The Artist” last year, Bonneville has a lead role in “Downtown Abbey” (maybe Clooney is a fan?) and Bob Balaban charmed us recently as the narrator in “Moonrise Kingdom.” Needless to say, this is a cast we can’t wait to see come together.

According to Deadline, “The Monuments Men” “confronts the final chapter of Germany’s rule, which came down to the absolute destruction of everything that makes a culture keep its standing, including the lives that are lost and the sacrifices that are made. All of this is in danger of being lost forever as Hitler and the Nazis try to cover the tracks of a murderous regime. A crew of art historians and museum curators unite to recover renown works of art that were stolen by Nazis before Hitler destroys them.”

Clooney and his partner Grant Heslov wrote the script for “The Monuments Men.” The plan is to have production begin on the movie on March 1 in Europe. Alexander Desplat is doing the score, and Clooney is apparently using the same crew Ben Affleck did on “Argo.” If that’s not a sign of success, we don’t know what is.
