[News] Game Weighs In On Chris Brown And Rihanna’s Relationship

Game talks to Howard Stern about Chris Brown and Rihanna getting back together.

Perhaps one of the more controversial headlines of 2012 has been Chris Brown and Rihanna reuniting as a couple after Brown infamously assaulted the Roc Nation songstress in 2009. Now, in a recent interview with Howard Stern via the Los Angeles Leakers, Brown’s friend and frequent collaborator Game weighs in on the news.

Game said that Brown is like a younger brother to him, and he made sure to counsel the singer in the weeks following the incident. Now, however, Game says he feels that Chris Brown has grown as a person and is confident that such a scenario would never happen again.

“[Chris Brown] is like a little brother of mine,” he said. “I did the best that I could to counsel his through that, and I feel like he made it back okay. And you know, they’re back together, and what I thought of it, I just figured that they were young and that was just one of those Hollywood mishaps. I don’t think it’ll happen again…he has changed, but I’m not him, so I can’t speak for him.”

When asked how he would react if it was his daughter that Chris Brown hit, Game joked, “Eh, let’s not paint that picture…you’re trying to get me to [say that I'd] kill Chris Brown, man.”

‘Breaking Dawn’ Premiere? Howard Stern Says, ‘I’m There!’

Looking at him, you might not peg Howard Stern as a Twilighter. But, he says he is. And that fandom culminated in his appearance at the premiere of “Breaking Dawn – Part 2″ on Thursday night in New York City.

“Who would you expect to see? Well, we wanted to go out on a romantic date night and we just came from dinner and we saw a free movie, why not? Let’s go,” he told MTV News beside his wife, Beth Ostrosky Stern.

This isn’t the first time the couple has made a “Twilight” premiere a date night. They also hit up premieres in 2009 and 2011. So, his next admission isn’t all that surprising. “I have and so has Beth, we’ve seen them all. I like anything vampire-oriented,” he shared. “I’m a big vampire/werewolf fan. So, if you put vampires and werewolves in a movie, I’m there. You know some of the movies that I’ve seen in the past needed vampires and werewolves.”

While he happens to love the franchise, looking back on the previous four films he felt they could have stepped up their gore factor a bit. Hopefully, he shared, that would be rectified in this final film. “Well, we’re hoping that there’s not going to be nice vampires… I want to see some violence,” he said about the flick.

Stern wasn’t the only fan hitting the theater on Thursday to check out the film. MTV News caught up with a bunch of fans and they couldn’t help but gush about the flick. “It was amazing,” Destinee Russi said after the screening. “I can’t wait to see it again. I would say it was the better one out of all four. I liked it a lot. It had more action, more storyline to do it.”

Another fan, Stephanie Garcia, added, “This was the best film ever. I mean I screamed my lungs out.”

Gil Nunez also couldn’t get over how he loved the film. He shared, “Oh my god, the film was incredibly great. I never thought I’d love a movie as much as I liked this one. I’ve seen all the rest, but this, to top it off, was icing on the cake.”

NBC Denies Sharon Osbourne’s Discrimination Claims

A day after Sharon Osbourne explained that she was quitting her role as judge on “America’s Got Talent” because another NBC show, “Stars Earn Stripes,” booted her son, Jack, following his multiple sclerosis diagnosis
, the network denied the claims.

NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt issued a statement on Monday about the dust-up, in which he attempted to soothe hurt feelings just weeks after Sharon first started making noise about leaving summer ratings magnet “AGT.”

“First, we have the deepest affection for Sharon Osbourne and consider her to be part of the NBC family,” wrote Greenblatt. “And our hearts go out to her, Ozzy, Jack and his family at this time. We hold medical information in strict confidence and therefore cannot comment specifically about Jack, but as a company that cares deeply about the health and safety of everyone on our shows — especially one like ‘Stars Earn Stripes‘ that requires dangerous water stunts, strenuous physical activity, and uses live ammunition — we required all potential participants to undergo medical vetting to ensure that they could safely participate. Although we did not ask Jack to participate in the competition, we were able to offer him two substantial alternative roles on the show, both of which he declined. This network does not discriminate on any basis.”

Osbourne took the feud public over the weekend, when she told the New York Post that, “I just can’t be fake … it’s discrimination, and it was badly handled.” She claimed that the producers of “Stars Earn Stripes,” a reality show that will feature celebrities battling each other in military training exercises, had fired Jack, 26, from the series by e-mail just days before he was to start filming.

Sharon claimed that NBC had lied about the incident after Jack appeared on his mum’s other show, “The Talk,” and claimed he was fired from the show because of his condition. The show’s producer denied that claim in June at a press conference, saying Jack was never officially hired, but that producers had been in talks with him that were never solidified.

Osbourne sent a tweet
to fellow judge Howard Stern several weeks ago hinting that she might quit, and that it wasn’t about the money. She told the Post, “They can’t make me do something I don’t want to do … All they can do is stop me from being a judge on another network for five years.” Sharon has been a judge on the show since 2007.

David Arquette Files For Divorce From Courteney Cox

After nearly two years of separation, David Arquette and Courteney Cox are headed toward divorce. TMZ reports that Arquette officially filed divorce papers last week and cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split.

According to the documents obtained by the website, Arquette is requesting joint legal and physical custody of their daughter Coco. He did not ask for spousal or child support and is apparently representing himself, as he did not list a lawyer. Also, it appears that Arquette signed the divorce documents on March 23 and only just decided to file them.

Aside from his brief bit of oversharing about their relationship on Howard Stern‘s radio show, Arquette and Cox have kept a relatively low profile since the news broke about their separation back in the fall of 2010. The former “Friends” star was quick to defend the behavior of her husband of 11 years during an interview with Harper’s Bazaar last March.

“If you didn’t hear the Howard Stern interviews and you just read quotes, I’m sure it seemed out of context, crazy,” she said. “I’m not saying there wasn’t some crazy behavior, but if you know who David is, you know what his intentions are, how honest he is, and how big his heart is. You can’t really get mad at David because he’s not a malicious person. He was dealing with things the best way he could. He’s not out to harm. But I’m his biggest protector. I can’t help it.”

Cox and Arquette met on the set of 1995′s horror blockbuster “Scream” and recently reprised their roles in “Scream 4,” in which their married characters were also dealing with relationship problems.

Robin Gibb And Bee Gees Gave The World Disco ‘Fever’

Just days after the world lost Queen of Disco Donna Summer, another one of the genre’s royal family, Bee Gees member Robin Gibb, died after a long battle with cancer.

Robin, 62, and his brothers Barry and Maurice began their musical career in 1963 and scored a number of hits with sentimental ballads such as “How Can You Mend a Broken Heart” and “I Started a Joke” and their first top 20 single, “New York Mining Disaster 1941.” But it was their work in the late 1970s that would forever cement their memory in music history.

After a string of successful albums and singles in the late 1960s and early 1970s, the brotherly trio hit the hard time early in the decade, including a brief period where Robin left the band to go solo because he felt Barry was being pushed to the forefront at his expense.

It wasn’t until they revamped their sound on 1975′s Main Course that they hit upon a formula that would make them international superstars and help sell more than 200 million albums over the course of their career. That record turned away from earnest folk and pop to a sound laced with a more soulful, dance-oriented groove, epitomized by the #1 hit “Jive Talkin’.”

They followed up with the soundtrack to the hit movie “Saturday Night Fever,” which held the record for the best-selling album of all time until the release of Michael Jackson’s Thriller. With such smashes as “Night Fever,” “How Deep Is Your Love,” “You Should Be Dancing,” “Stayin’ Alive” and “More Than a Woman,” the soundtrack won the Grammy for Album of the Year and sold more than 15 million copies in the United States alone.

Though they weren’t even tapped to work on the soundtrack until after the movie had already wrapped, producer Robert Stigwood asked them to try and whip up a few tunes for the film that would soon define the disco era. They dashed most of the additional songs off in just over one weekend, and the rest, as they say, is history. In the years since, the album, whose cover prominently features the trio in their signature white disco suits just above a dancing John Travolta, has sold more than 40 million copies and stands as one of the top five best-selling albums of all time.

Robin often sung the lead on the early songs, even though it was Barry who was the ostensible leader of the group later in their career. The siblings’ allegedly testy dynamic was turned into a bizarre recurring skit on “Saturday Night Live” from 2003 to 2011 by Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake called “The Barry Gibb Talk Show.” Though Fallon once told Howard Stern that he really didn’t know how the idea came to him to play Barry as an out-of-control rage-aholic hosting a public affairs show about the day’s news, the comedic combination of the monosyllabic Timberlake as Robin and the pair singing the trio’s falsetto harmonies made for some of the show’s funniest moments.

Born in 1949 on the Isle of Man off the British Coast, Robin and his brothers grew up in Manchester, England, but moved to Australia as children. They got their start there performing on television shows as the B.G.’s. It was after the family returned to England in the 1960s that the trio began to score international attention with their melodic three-part harmonies and emotional songwriting.

Robin released a trio of solo albums in the 1980s, but neither he nor the group would ever reach the “Fever” heights again. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997. Earlier this year, Robin released a classical piece called The Titanic Requiem, recorded with his son, Robin-John, but was too ill to attend an April 10 performance with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.

Robin’s death is the latest heartache for the family, which has suffered a string of misfortunes, including the 1988 death of youngest brother Andy, 30, and the 2003 passing of Robin’s twin, Maurice, 53.

More than 30 years after their global breakthrough, the music created by Robin and his brothers remains a cultural touchstone for each successive generation. Everyone from Eric Clapton to Destiny’s Child, the Cure’s Robert Smith, the Flaming Lips, Elton John, Al Green, Cher, Diana Ross, Tina Turner and Celine Dion have recorded their songs over the years.

Please share your condolences for Gibb’s family, friends and fans in the comments.

Jennifer Lopez, Rihanna Land Atop Forbes Celebrity 100 List

Rihanna and Kim Kardashian debut on the list in grand fashion, coming in at 4 and 7, respectively. The two benefited from the inclusion of a “Social Rank” among the factors, which include money earned, TV/radio presence and level of press attention, used to formulate the listing, which aims to reflect the level of influence a celebrity has in the entertainment industry. With her millions of followers on Twitter and Facebook, Rihanna came in second in the Social Rank category.

Explaining Lopez’s position on the list, Forbes writes, “['American Idol'] gave her a platform to promote her music and turn her image around. It didn’t hurt that she also split from her husband, Marc Anthony. Suddenly a single mother, Lopez lapped up the media attention and scored lucrative endorsement deals with companies like L’Oreal and Gillette. She now has a line of clothing at Kohl’s, a top-selling fragrance and she was able to secure a nice bump — to $20 million — on her’ Idol’ salary for a second season. With 6.6 million followers on Twitter and 12 million fans on Facebook, she’s also proved a master of social media.”

Oprah Winfrey held on to the #2 spot on the list and was its top earner ($165 million) despite a tough year that saw her syndicated talk show come to a planned end after 25 years and her OWN cable network struggle in the ratings.

Justin Bieber also held onto the #3 position he debuted in last year. The “Boyfriend” pop star earned an impressive $55 million in the last 12 months and garnered top 10 rankings elsewhere across the board, coming in at #3 in the Social Rank and #4 in the TV/Radio Rank.

Her long list of chart-topping singles and the press attention around her divorce from Russell Brand, in addition to her strong Twitter presence and largely sold-out California Dreams world tour, were enough to push Katy Perry into the top 10 after debuting on the countdown last year at #12. She leaps six spots in this year’s ranking, placing at #6 with a not-too-shabby $45 million earned.

Looking at the list and the various artists’ rankings in the five categories used to determine their placement, there’s a sense that the actual positions are more arbitrary than usual. For example, Lopez is #1 despite not ranking inside the top 10 in any of the categories (and is as low as #30 in money, #22 in press rank and #19 in social), while both Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber earned top 10 placement in all of them except the Money Rank, the top tier of which is dominated by multimedia moguls like Winfrey, Steven Spielberg (#10 overall), Simon Cowell (#18), Dr. Dre (#26), Howard Stern (#30) and Michael Bay (#35).

And then there’s Adele, who despite having the top-selling album in six years, three #1 singles (including the year’s most ubiquitous song, “Rolling in the Deep”), six Grammy wins and mountains of positive press, ranks at only #24, behind Glenn Beck (#23) and Jennifer Aniston (#22) and one spot ahead of Bon Jovi.

Other notable entries on the Forbes Celebrity 100 include Taylor Swift at #11, Beyoncé at #16, Jay-Z at #38, Kristen Stewart at #43 and Kanye West at #45. Further down the power rankings are Lil Wayne (#69), Skrillex (#92) and Zooey Deschanel (#96).

Jennifer Lopez Tops Forbes Celebrity 100

There’s no doubt Jennifer Lopez has experienced one of the most meteoric comebacks in recent memory, and it seems Forbes is taking note, granting the multi-hyphenate mogul the top spot on its annual Celebrity 100.

Lopez unseats Lady Gaga, who took top honors last year but falls to #5 in this year’s ranking; her visibility and earnings were lower in the last 12 months because she wasn’t touring, having wrapped her Monster Ball in May of last year and only recently launching her latest road show, the Born This Way Ball.

Howard Stern On ‘America’s Got Talent’: The Reviews Are In!

Prepare for the worst and the results can only be better than you expected. That’s the lesson naysayers learned on Monday night when radio talker Howard Stern made his long-awaited debut as the new judge
 on “America’s Got Talent.”

Stern, a huge fan of the show who has been talking up his new gig for months on his SiriusXM satellite radio show did exactly what he promised
: he was a fair, sometimes silly, sometimes harsh judge with a heart of gold and a soft spot for sappy stories. Hell, the notoriously Purell-addicted germaphobe even lumbered up onto the stage to huge a particularly sweaty, not-so-great singer after giving him a second chance at fame.

After dismissing the pre-debut hand-wringing by the Parents Television Council that Stern’s penchant for R-rated humor might leak over into the family-friendly show as “a foolish presumption,” Los Angeles Times writer Robert Lloyd wrote that such fretting, “sells short the show’s producers and misreads Stern, who has shown himself perfectly capable of good behavior on other people’s turf.”

Despite an introductory montage set to the Rolling Stones’ “Sympathy for the Devil” that set up his bad-boy reputation and a joke about how NBC execs must be “out of their mind” for taking a risk on him,” Lloyd said it was quickly evident that, “like fellow judges Sharon Osbourne and Howie Mandel, he [Stern] meant to play the game the way the game is meant to be played, because, to a deep degree, he believes in it.”

In a headline in which it said the shock jock, “becomes a beloved uncle,” the Washington Post‘s TV reviewer mixed the sweet and sour in offering backhanded praise to the radio veteran. “Somewhere along the way to the collapse of Western civilization, pioneer shock-jock Howard Stern became a sweet old man, perhaps staving off our multimedia Armageddon,” wrote critic Hank Stuever. “At least that’s the story line presented along with Stern’s canny decision to join — at a reported fee of about $20 million — NBC‘s goony amateur performance competition, ‘America’s Got Talent,’ as its newest judge.”

Stuever yawned at Stern’s rehashing of old bits about his looks and the size of his manhood, and said he did “dish out a tiny bit of brutal honesty,” but mostly came to “bask in the show’s trademark combination of awkwardness, ingenuity and love” and delivered “apple-pie pronouncements more typical of presidential candidates.”

The embrace was slightly warmer at the New York Daily News, which explained that, “to appreciate Howard Stern‘s debut as a judge on ‘America’s Got Talent’ Monday night, just remember this: Inviting Stern on ‘AGT‘ is not like inviting the Sex Pistols to crash ‘La Traviata’ at the Met. ‘America’s Got Talent’ didn’t hire Stern to inject outrageous and wacky. It didn’t need to. It has ‘em already.”

Critic David Hinckley said that Stern settled in quickly and comfortably on the show, praising him for being honest and getting caught up in the show’s “figurative group hugs and four-handkerchief moments.” The question remains of how Stern will deal when the goofy acts are gone and he has to make tough decisions between talented acts with widely differing skills. “There was no indication he can’t do it. But all Monday proved for sure is this is the show where he belongs.”

People magazine seconded those emotions, writing, “Stern showed a lot of heart and proved he’s got talent — for judging!”

What did you think of Stern’s debut on “America’s Got Talent?” Let us know in comments below.

Howard Stern Debut Doesn’t Boost ‘America’s Got Talent’ Ratings

Over the past week it has felt like Howard Stern was everywhere. The self-proclaimed “King of All Media” was doing his best to make that title sing in the lead-up to his debut as a judge on “America’s Got Talent,” by doing a rare publicity swing of talk shows and feature interviews.

He was excited and he wanted America to be excited, and by the looks of the blanket ads, billboards and promotional stunts, NBC clearly thought that adding the controversial shock jock to the mix on the family-friendly show was going to be big news. Stern did his part
, delivering a warmer, fuzzier version of his outrageous radio persona on Monday night’s two-hour debut and earning almost universal praise
 for his playful, personal touch.

The ratings, however, were another matter. According to overnight figures from Nielsen, Monday’s show was seen by 10.3 million viewers and earned a 3.6 rating, which was solid, but meant that viewership was down 33 percent (from 15.3 million) and ratings fell 16 percent from last year’s debut (4.3).

Stern spent a while on his SiriusXM satellite radio show on Monday tamping down expectations for the first night’s ratings, mixing a cocktail of his own self-deprecation with the cold-hard facts about the competition. According to Entertainment Weekly unlike last year, when “AGT” bowed at the end of May and was paired with the first season of “The Voice,” Monday night’s episode went up against the one-hour season finale of “How I Met Your Mother,” as well as the season finales of “Two and a Half Men” and “Mike Molly.” Oh, and it also had to contend with the penultimate performance night on “Dancing with the Stars.”

While the ratings may not have been the kind of slam-dunk success NBC was hoping for, Stern may have one less potential headache to deal with (for now). After lambasting NBC for hiring Stern for the show
, citing the broadcasting veteran’s more risqué radio bits over the years, the Parents Television Council was mostly mute when reached by MTV News on Tuesday (May 15).

“My understanding was that he was actually very clean,” said Melissa Henson, director of communications and public education at the PTC. While she was unable to watch the show, Henson said she was glad to hear Stern toned down his act, “because it’s a family show and that’s what’s appropriate. I’m glad he decided to rein it in or maybe the bosses at NBC told him to do that. I’m not surprised by that … maybe he’s initially keeping it clean so he can say, ‘I told you so.’”

That doesn’t mean Henson and her group have put their guard down, though. She said Stern’s safe-as-milk debut doesn’t change what she called NBC‘s track-record of misogyny, citing last year’s swiftly canceled “Playboy Club’ series and Stern’s reputation for sexually-explicit radio programs.

“He may keep it clean on ‘AGT‘ for a couple of episodes, or maybe the whole season,” she said of Stern. “But that doesn’t change the fact that for most of his career has been one of the most misogynistic entertainers out there.”
