Daniel Radcliffe has found his next role, according to Deadline, and once again, he has picked something unlike anything that he’s done before.

As the lead in “Tokyo Vice,” Radcliffe will play real-life journalist Jake Adelstein, who risked his life to investigate the yakuza while working for a newspaper in Japan. The film’s title and source material comes from the book that Adelstein wrote about his experiences covering the dangerous beat.

Tokyo Vice” adds another credit to a growing list of impressive upcoming projects for the “Harry Potter” alum. “Kill Your Darlings” pretty much killed at Sundance this year, with Radcliffe earning much of the praise himself.

He also recently wrapped on “The F Word” and “Horns,” a fantastical thriller where he’ll play a rock star who literally grows horns out of his forehead. Radclilffe is also attached to “Frankenstein,” a new take on the Mary Shelley story from the writer of “Chronicle.”

Six Things You Didn’t Know about Tom Cruise

Six Things You Didnt Know about Tom Cruise

By Tara Fowler

This weekend, a movie called “Oblivion” hits theaters. It is not, as I believed when it was first announced, based on the popular video game (which I wouldn’t be opposed to — make it happen, Hollywood!). Instead, this film sees Tom Cruise as one of the last humans stationed on a dying Earth following an alien attack sixty years prior*. Here are seven facts about the savior of mankind:

1) The name of Cruise’s daughter Suri comes from the Hebrew word for “princess”: And the Persian word for “red rose,” per the statement released at the time of her birth. It’s also the Japanese word for “pickpocket,” but the press release doesn’t mention that. In any case, it’s a moot point since this very reliable British tabloid has reported that Katie Holmes is planning to change her daughter’s name after her divorce from Tom Cruise is finalized. The top contender? Scout, of “To Kill a Mockingbird” fame.

2) There’s a whole day dedicated to him: In 2006, Japan declared October 10 “Tom Cruise Day” in honor of the actor’s love for the country. He’s visited it more than any other Hollywood star.

3) He’s the original Ryan Gosling: Before Gosling was saving people left and right on the streets of NYC, Cruise was Hollywood’s knight in shining armor. In 1996, he helped the victim of a hit-and-run by taking her to the hospital and then paying her medical bills when he discovered she didn’t have health insurance. Later that same year, he (or, well, his yacht’s staff) rescued five people from a burning sailboat. Then, at the “Mission: Impossible” premiere, he saved two boys from getting crushed against barricades by the crowd.

4) Aladdin was modeled after him: When designing the Disney character, producers drew inspiration from Cruise’s “eyebrows and straight-off-the-forehead nose.” “There’s a confidence with all of his attitudes and his poses,” lead animator Glen Keane told Entertainment Weekly at the time.

5) Cruise attended 15 different schools over the course of 12 years: Moving throughout the US and Canada, Cruise went to a new school almost every year until he was 14 and his family settled in Glen Ridge, New Jersey. He also studied to be a priest, but dropped out after a year, and, you know, eventually embraced Scientology.

6) He played football in high school — until he was cut from the team: For drinking beer! As this unauthorized biography so eloquently puts it, “he was not the only one drinking; he was just the only one who got caught.”

Bonus) Cruise has appeared in three movies with his second wife, Nicole Kidman: Most notably the instant classic “Far and Away.” Say you like my hat!

Will you be seeing Oblivion this weekend?

*These aliens are unrelated to Scientology. Shame on you.

Godzilla Is Coming… Slowly!

 Godzilla Is Coming... Slowly!

Godzilla” has officially started filming, and now a video has been released by Legendary Pictures that shows director Gareth Edwards on set. It was taken right after the “Godzilla” crew filmed the movie##Q##s first shot, and Edwards seems ready to burst with excitement about finally getting the film underway.

“Hi Legendary fans, it##Q##s Gareth and this is day one of a very long shoot for ##Q##Godzilla##Q## and we##Q##ve just finished the first shot. It went great,” Edwards said. “I can##Q##t tell you any more, you##Q##ll have to see the movie.”

“Godzilla” is filming Vancouver right now, but it##Q##s clear from the video that the city is covering for Japan. The scene filmed was apparently shot on a set that looks like a Japanese airport, specifically in the customs area. There must be more to read into that somewhere.

Starring Aaron Johnson, Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen, Ken Watanabe, Juliette Binoche and David Strathairn, “Godzilla” is due out on May 16, 2014.

Chris Brown And Frank Ocean’s Fight: Fans Weigh In

32ff1 chrisbrown1 Chris Brown And Frank Oceans Fight: Fans Weigh In

By Henna Kathiya

If there’s one thing to know about Chris Brown, it’s that Breezy can be pretty quick to anger. Last year alone he brawled with Drake at a club, engaged in various Twitter wars and even deactivated his Twitter for a while. Now, his current beef is with Frank Ocean and fans have plenty to say about it.

Chris Brown And Frank Ocean Go At It On Twitter

After a fight with Ocean at a studio in L.A. on Sunday night it’s still a little unclear who is at fault, with different stories coming from both camps. Allegedly the two were fighting over a parking spot, with Brown writing on Instagram later, “Working on my album. Not working on negativity. Focus on feeding ya family. Bullshit will forever be in the shadows.” Still, the Twitterverse is buzzing with fingers pointing mainly at Brown given that Frank Ocean is pretty popular with his fans.

Ocean was the first to break the news after the fight, tweeting, “Got jumped by Chris and a couple guys. Lol. I only wish Everest was here.” He later added, “Cut my finger now I can’t play w/two hands at the Grammys.”

In response to the controversy:

@MyHairyLife wrote, “At least Chris Brown hit a man this time. So I guess he’s making progress.”

@Travon wrote, “First women, now punching gay guys over parking spots? Has someone told Chris Brown there’s no “douche bag” Nobel prize category?”

@samlansky wrote, “What will Chris Brown do next? PIstol-whip some nuns? Drown a bag of kittens in an old well? Tie someone to the train tracks and laugh?”

@nedhepburn wrote, “If Chris Brown can’t get a hit on the charts he’ll just hit other people, apparently.”

Chris Brown Shares Thoughts On Frank Ocean’s Sexuality

@JetlifeSensei wrote, “Everybody saying Chris Brown beating up girls again, but I bet Frank Ocean would whoop 95% of your asses”

@KanerKnight wrote, “chris brown is having bare beef with all kinds of peoples…. From females to wrestler’s now a gay dude..”

@TonyAndersonTV wrote, “Being unapologetically you has it’s disadvantages tho. Chris Brown needs to be somebody else cuz being him ain’t working.”

@surreezy wrote, his last album was a flop, he had to beg his “breezy fans” on twitter to buy the album. And he continues to make himself look bad in media, thus losing fans.

A few of Brown’s fans did defend him on Instagram though, after some commenters began to criticize his recent work. adisadeliovsky wrote, “his last album went number 1 in the United States, Netherlands, New Zealand, United Kingdom, and reached top 10 in Canada, France, Ireland, Japan and Switzerland and he won a Grammy for his last album f.a.m.e and is currently nominated for a Grammy for his current album fortune… Doesn’t sound like a flop to me?”

Golden Globes 2013: What Really Happens On The Red Carpet

LOS ANGELES — Sometimes red carpets are all celebrity hugs and air kisses. And then other times, they’re about jockeying for a star’s attention alongside an outlet whose only goal seems to be to get someone to sheepishly utter “Hello, Japan” into their camera. At the Golden Globes, they’re both. You want the (not so) dark underbelly of what it is to cover the Hollywood Foreign Press‘ dementedly delightful celebapalooza? All right, let’s go.

Here’s what you didn’t see on Sunday night while I was doing the red carpet thing. Please allow me to impart some words of wisdom, too, in case you get the chance to do it yourself. But first: a timeline. Below is a rough look at how the Golden Globes red carpet goes if you’re someone like me.

7 a.m. — Wake up in a cold sweat wondering what you will possibly have to say to the cast of “Downton Abbey.”

8 a.m.-1 p.m. — Over-prepare for a handful of red-carpet interviews that will really just be instinctual, banal silliness.

1:30 p.m. — Hook up with the MTV News gang on the carpet. Utter a series of truly profane expletives when you see your spot on the carpet is horrible (i.e., near the end of a couple hundred outlets).

1:30-2:30 p.m. — Beg your way into a slightly better spot. Doesn’t end up helping.

3:45 p.m. — Your red-carpet interviews kick off with … wait for it …Toby Jones. No offense to Toby, a fine actor.

4:25 p.m.-4:50 p.m. — EVERY A-lister starts racing by. Seriously, where were you guys half an hour ago when I was talking to Alyssa Milano?

5 p.m.-8:30 p.m. — Run to your hotel room with the MTV News gang. Watch some of the show. Our red-carpet interviews get cut and foisted onto the World Wide Web for your pleasure.

8:30 p.m.-10:30 p.m. — Breeze through a few afterparties. Laugh with Emily Blunt and John Krasinski. Gawk at Bill Murray. Chit-chat with Edgar Ramirez because no else is.

10:32 p.m. — Return to your very pedestrian, un-Clooney-like existence. Look long and hard at the jar of jelly beans in your hotel room.

That was my Golden Globes in a nutshell. Now to those words of wisdom:

Bring the Mom. Better yet, bring the Grandma.
Also known as the Gosling/Chastain Rule. Sure, it can make for a slightly awkward interview — I’m flashing back to a Russell Brand Oscars chat alongside his mum — but at least it mixes it up to bring the fam. Sunday night, I met Jack Black’s mom (his long detailed explanation of our relationship must have baffled her: “There was this cream pie …”), and I got introduced to Hugh Jackman’s wife. Lovely, no doubt patient women. Addendum: don’t bring your kids into the interview. That can get awkward.

Work on a good sheepish/ hound dog look to entice talent.
Both Jason Bateman and Kerry Washington credited my forlorn/longing (OK, desperate) stare for persuading them to make time to chat. Use what you’ve got, folks.

Enjoy the small things.
There are two awards season certainties: Zsa Zsa Gabor’s husband somehow will be everywhere you are. Lest you thought you were important or granted access in the upper caste of media society, nope, you’re just hanging with a really odd and creepy publicity hound. Oh, and these ladies, a Grey Gardens-esque mother-and-daughter pair will walk back and forth on the Globes carpet for hours waiting for someone to talk to them.

Know that there’s not much left to say.
If you’re doing the awards circuit — and I’m not doing it as much as some, talk to my buddy Marc Malkin at E! — you get to a point of diminished or, at least, altered returns. In other words, I’ve spoken to Jessica Chastain about four times in the last couple weeks. By the time she got to me in our wilderness red-carpet position with about 20 seconds to spare before being rushed in to the ceremony, well, what do you say in that amount of time? Really.

Take it in.
Last night, as I left the one of the afterparties and headed back to the hotel, I’ll confess I was little tired and just done with it all. As I was walking the nearly dismantled red carpet, a handful of workers were laboring quickly to return the Beverly Hilton to its run-of-the-mill, day to day gaudiness. It’s a silly business, the celebrity thing. But this was my view. Hit me in the face if I ever complain.

President Obama: We’re ‘Not Moving Fast’ Enough On Climate Change‪

One of the major topics that has gotten the least amount of attention during the long presidential campaign is climate change. Before the devastation wrought by superstorm Sandy on the East Coast— which New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has said is proof that global climate change is real— MTV News sat down with President Obama to discuss how he would approach this pressing issue in his second term if re-elected.

Pointing out that the environment was mentioned in at least one debate in every presidential race since 1988 before being omitted from this year’s three debates, during last week’s “Ask Obama Live: An MTV Interview With the President”
special MTV News’ Sway Calloway asked the president if he would make good on the promises he made during his first run for the White House to focus significant resources on environmental issues.

“We’re not moving as fast as we need to,” Obama said. “This is an issue that future generations, MTV viewers, are going to have to be dealing with even more than the older generation is. So this is a critical issue.”

The president said he was surprised it did not come up in one of the debates because he feels that there is a “huge” contrast between his plan to deal with what some climate scientists have called a dire situation and that of his opponent, former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney.

Governor Romney says he believes in climate change, that’s different than a lot of the members of his own party who just deny it completely, but he says he’s not sure that man-made causes are the reason,” said Obama. “I believe scientists, who say that we’re putting too much carbon emissions into the atmosphere and it’s heating the planet. And it’s going to have a severe effect.”

For that reason, Obama noted, his administration has taken a number of steps over the past few years aimed at slowing down U.S. carbon emissions. Among the actions he cited: doubling fuel efficiency standards on cars and trucks (the first increase in 30 years in fuel mileage standards) and a doubling of clean energy production (wind, solar, biofuels).

These acts, he said, will not only take “huge” amounts of carbon out of the atmosphere, but also decrease reliance on foreign fuel sources, save Americans money at the pump and allow private homes and companies to get electricity from clean sources.

As he deals with the aftermath of Sandy, New York mayor Michael Bloomberg cited Obama’s leadership on the environment in endorsing the president on Thursday.

“We need leadership from the White House — and over the past four years, President Barack Obama has taken major steps to reduce our carbon consumption, including setting higher fuel-efficiency standards for cars and trucks,” said Bloomberg, who also attributed the enormity of this week’s storm to changes in the climate.

“The next step is buildings and really ramp up our efficiency in buildings,” Obama said of his future plans. “If we had the same energy efficiency as Japan, we would cut our energy use by about 20 percent … that means we’d be taking a whole lot of carbon out of our atmosphere.” If we do that, the president added, we can meet the targets he negotiated with other countries at a U.N. climate change conference in Copenhagen in 2009 to bring our carbon emissions down by 17 percent while creating new green jobs.

“In order for us to solve the whole problem, though,” he said. “We’re going to have to have some technological breakthroughs, because countries like China and India … they’re building coal-fired power plants. They feel that they have to prioritize getting people out of poverty ahead of climate change. So what we have to do is help them, and help ourselves, by continuing to put money into research and technology about how do we get the new sources of power that are really going to make a difference?”

‘Wolverine’ Poster: Hugh Jackman Promises Beserker Rage

He’s the best there is at what he does, and what he does ain’t very nice — though he does make for one hell of a poster boy!

Hugh Jackman claws his way back to the big-screen next July with “The Wolverine,” reprising his role as the fast-healing mutant for the first time since 2009′s “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” and the sixth time overall. The Australian actor and his director James Mangold hosted a fan QA session earlier this week, revealing a brand new poster for the film and plenty of other details about their interpretation of the character. Perhaps the most interesting revelation of them all: “The Wolverine” is a sequel to “X-Men 3,” not “X-Men Origins.”

“It finds Logan at a point when the X-Men are gone; Jean Grey is gone; a lot of the ties he had to the world, are gone,” said Mangold. “I wanted to place this story somewhere where Hugh and I could develop a movie which could create its own world, wouldn’t have to in a sense hand off to another movie or answer to another movie.”

“Enough with the ‘I can’t remember what happened to me, what was my past, who am I?’” Jackman added. “We’ve explored it a lot.”

READ: ‘Wolverine’ Gets Modern In THIS MUTANT LIFE

Instead, “The Wolverine” will explore Logan’s literally eternal struggles of immortality and outliving the people he loves. Those blessings often serve as curses for the lonely Logan, who heads to Japan with more rage in his heart than ever before. It’s that sense of wrath that Mangold and Jackman are so interested in.

“His ultimate weapon is his rage,” said Jackman. “There are others that have stronger superpowers on paper, but who’s the person you least want to annoy? Wolverine. And that’s the thing that makes him badass. That’s the thing that makes him cool. And that’s the thing we’re trying to key in on. Not this inflation of powers, not the healing ability, but really when it comes to it, it’s that berserker rage.”

But that’s not to say Wolverine isn’t without his weaknesses, as Jackman teased, “You’re always in danger with someone like Wolverine because he has his healing ability. Unless you lop his head off, he’s going to come back at you. Actually, in this movie, he discovers his kryptonite.”

“Some of the people Logan is up against might have found ways of getting to him that are different than we’ve seen before,” Mangold added. “We don’t want to give away more about it now, but I think that we’re very conscious of that.”

What do you think of the new “Wolverine” poster and the updates from Jackman and Mangold? Tell us in the comments below!
