Machete is officially set to kill in 2013. The former Mexican federale will return next year in “Machete Kills,” Robert Rodriguez‘s follow-up to the original, which was based on a fake trailer he made for “Grindhouse.”

Open Road Films just picked up the North American distribution rights to the sequel, and the first image from the movie hit the web shortly after the announcement to celebrate.

The photo features Danny Trejo back as Machete, a pissed off killing machine who has a way with the ladies. We also see Amber Heard as Miss San Antonio, apparently one of the film’s many femme fatales.

The rest of the cast includes a delightfully random assortment of actors like Mel Gibson, Charlie Sheen, Lady Gaga, Sofia Vergara, Antonio Banderas, Jessica Alba, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Vanessa Hudgens, Demian Bichir, and Michelle Rodriguez.

Official synopsis:

Danny Trejo returns as ex-Federale agent MACHETE, who is recruited by the President of the United States for a mission which would be impossible for any mortal man – he must take down a madman revolutionary and an eccentric billionaire arms dealer who has hatched a plan to spread war and anarchy across the planet.

Expect Machete to kill once again sometime next year.

Katy Perry Latest Celeb To Stump For President Obama

On the heels of Tuesday night’s $4 million fundraiser 
 in New York for President Obama hosted by Jay-Z and Beyonce, Katy Perry is getting political.

The “California Gurls” singer will perform at the Obama “30 Days To Victory” fundraising concert in Los Angeles on October 7 according to the Hollywood Reporter. The other acts on the bill at the Nokia Theater show have not been announced, but tickets will be available from the campaign starting at $44 per person for supporters under the age of 40. General admission for the show is $250 a person. Spokespeople for Nokia and Perry could not be reached for confirmation at press time.
The concert will be followed by a dinner with the president hosted by Hollywood mogul Jeffrey Katzenberg at a local restaurant, with tickets for that event starting at $25,000.

Though the star power on both sides of the political spectrum has dimmed considerably since the 2008 election, Obama has been the beneficiary of support from a number of A-list stars during the campaign season. In addition to the $40,000 per person shindig at Jay’s 40/40 Club on Tuesday, George Clooney hosted an Obama event at his Los Angeles home, director Tyler Perry held one at his Atlanta mansion and Sarah Jessica Parker
 hosted a party at her New York townhouse in June that raised $2 million.

Other celebs who’ve stepped forward to support Obama include Meryl Streep, Oprah Winfrey, Spike Lee, Julia Roberts, Dave Grohl, Ellen DeGeneres, Jessica Alba, Alicia Keys, Jon Bon Jovi, Cher and Cee Lo Green.

Sofia Vergara Flaunts Her Stuff On The Machete Kills Set

We finally have our first look at Robert Rodriguez‘s upcoming “Machete Kills” and it comes from… Sofia Vergara‘s son?

It turns out that the only son of the “Modern Family” actress had the chance to visit the set of the movie and captured some footage that he posted on his online series, “My Vida con Toty.” The actress was cast back in May as the mother goose at a brothel, and the younger Vergara made it very clear that it was traumatic to watch his mother walk around in full dominatrix get-up.

“Maneater. That’s what they used to call me when I was a little girl,” Vergara sexily informed some lucky off-screen actor in the footage shown.

In “Machete Kills,” Vergara plays a leather-wearing woman named Madame Desdemona who runs a brothel, and some of her “girls” have some information that Machete needs. Judging by the scene where Vergara can be seen ruthlessly shooting at Danny Trejo’s Machete, we doubt that their conversation ends nicely.

We’re happy to finally, finally see some footage from the set, and so far it looks great. But we’re greedy people here at MTV Movies Blog, and now we’re even more desperate to get a look at the rest of Rodriguez’s awesome cast. When you bring together folks like Mel Gibson, Demian Bichir, Amber Heard, Michelle Rodriguez abd Jessica Alba, you can’t expect us to be not be intrigued.

Charlie Sheen To Play President In ‘Machete’ Sequel

Like father, like son. Charlie Sheen could follow pops Martin into the White House in an upcoming big screen role as the president in director Robert Rodriguez‘s sequel to his “Grindhouse” action pic, “Machete.”

Rodriguez announced the casting on Thursday in a tweet that read, “I just cast Charlie Sheen in #machetekills as the President of the United States! Who better? More soon…” Sheen retweeted the message, which also included a photo of the “Anger Management” actor leaning his arm on Rodriguez’s shoulder. A spokesperson for Sheen confirmed that negotiations are under way to have him join the film, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

If Sheen ends up in the movie, he’ll be the second member of his family to take on the role of command-in-chief, following in the footsteps of Martin, who played the fictional President Josiah Bartlet for seven seasons on Aaron Sorkin’s “The West Wing.”

The original over-the-top 2010 revenge fantasy starring tattooed badass vigilante Danny Trejo began life as a fake B-movie trailer in Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino‘s 2007 throwback exploitation flick “Grindhouse.” It featured a galaxy of stars, including Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, Cheech Marin and Lindsay Lohan.

The sequel will again feature Trejo, Alba and Rodriguez, along with Mel Gibson, Demian Bichir, Amber Heard, Sofia Vergara and Zoe Saldana. Rodriguez announced in a tweet on June 12 that principal photography on the film had begun. The second chapter of a planned trilogy, due out in 2013, finds Machete being recruited by the U.S. government to stop a cartel leader and an arms dealer who have deployed a weapon in space.

President Obama Raises Cash In The City With Sarah Jessica Parker

After a hard day of trading stump speech barbs with Republican rival Mitt Romney during dueling appearances in the crucial swing state of Ohio, President Obama jetted to New York City on Thursday night for a pair of celeb-studded campaign fundraisers.

His first stop was at the home of “Sex and the City” star Sarah Jessica Parker for a money ball co-hosted by Vogue editor Anna Wintour. The 50-person, $40,000-a-pop event, attended by celebs including Oscar winner Meryl Streep, Bravo boss Andy Cohen and fashion designer Michael Kors, included a moment of levity when Parker’s nine-year-old son, James, interrupted Obama during his speech with a round of applause, according to Politico.

“He wanted to fire up the crowd,” Obama quipped. “He knows an applause line,” Cohen chimed in. “Right on cue!”

“We’ve got as fundamental a choice this time out than we have had in 30, 40 or 50 years,” the president told the small group packed into a low-lit, art-filled room. “What we are going to have to do is present very clearly to the American people that choice.”

Making a rare joint appearance with First Lady Michelle Obama, the president raised $2 million at the event, which included a private question-and-answer session between the commander-in-chief and his guests.

Parker’s husband, actor Matthew Broderick, was not present due to his current starring role in the Broadway musical “Nice Work If You Can Get It.”
The First Couple then moved to another glamorous 250-person, $10,000-a-plate dinner event at the Plaza Hotel that included a performance by Mariah Carey and some remarks from Alicia Keys. That soiree raised another $2.5 million for the campaign. While Romney has been filling his coffers with huge donations to his campaign and to Super-PACs supporting his effort from a number of mega-millionaires and billionaires, Obama has struggled to get the same kind of big-cash donations from his supporters.

He continues, however, to have a solid (if somewhat diminished from 2008) base of entertainment industry boosters who have stepped up lately to help raise money, including George Clooney, Oprah Winfrey, Cher, Spike Lee, Julia Roberts, Ellen DeGeneres, Jessica Alba, Keys, Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters, Jon Bon Jovi and Cee Lo Green.

Only Robert Rodriguez would be able to bring together the eclectic cast required for “Machete Kills.”

The latest trio to join the upcoming “Machete” sequel‘s line-up are Amber Heard, Demian Bichir and Michelle Rodriguez, Variety reports. Rodriguez appeared in “Machete” as well, while Bichir and Heard are new additions to the franchise. Heard will play a femme fatale who is a “manipulative assassin code-named Miss San Antonio,” according to the report, while Bichir’s role is being kept under wraps.

Ever since “Machete Kills” was officially announced last month, actors have been flocking to the project. After the jump, check out the scoop on other big part in the flick.

We were excited enough (and, honestly, a bit perplexed) when we learned that Mel Gibson, Hollywood’s pariah-in-residence, was in talks for a supporting role in the movie, but now it’s becoming clear that he’ll be playing its villain. Variety reports that Machete (Danny Trejo) has been hired by the U.S. government to “stop an arms dealer (Gibson) from launching a deadly missile.” While there could be other baddies going up against Machete as well, it seems like Gibson is going to be at the center of the conflict in this film. Art, indeed, imitates life.

“Machete Kills” also stars Jessica Alba and, potentially, Antonio Banderas. It’s set to begin production (far from Tinseltown) in Austin later this month. Rodriguez will once again step into the director’s chair.

“It’s such a fun movie, and it just came out even more fun than I could have imagined,” he said about the script in an interview last month. “I feel like I really need to do it. It’s so subjective I feel like I really need to get in there and do it. It’s just a lot of fun; it’s a really cool concept, and I think it takes it to another level in a way that’s compelling for me to go and do it myself.”

Jessica Simpson Gives Birth To Daughter

Jessica Simpson has added a new hyphenate to her resume: She’s now a mom! The singer/actress/fashion mogul and her fiancé, Eric Johnson, welcomed a nine-pound-13-ounce baby girl named Maxwell, US Weekly is reporting.

It’s the first child for the couple, who got engaged in November 2010. Simpson confirmed that she was going to be a mom in the punniest way around on Halloween 2011 when, after much speculation about her expanding waistline, she posted a photo of herself and her baby bump dressed up as a “mummy.”

Of little Maxwell, she told Elle that she had the baby’s name picked out for some time and wanted it to be personal to her. “It’s nothing shocking and nothing you’ll have to add to the dictionary,” she said about her daughter. “Still, when people hear it, they’ll know … why.”

As for marrying Johnson, she shared with Jay Leno that she wants to wait until she can wear a properly pretty wedding dress again in a svelte frame. “I want him to be my husband so bad. I do still want to wear the pretty gown and everything, and I have to wait till after the baby. Now she’ll just be in the wedding,” she said about her plans to marry the former football player and including their baby girl in the wedding ceremony.

Currently, Simpson is one of the mentors on NBC‘s fashion reality show, “Fashion Star,” where she appears alongside fellow fashion entrepreneurs and designers Nicole Richie and John Varvatos. Now, it seems that she has a new mentee in Maxwell.

During promo for the show, shortly before she gave birth, she joked about her very, very large size to Ellen DeGeneres on her talk show, placing all the blame on her fiancé. “Believe it or not, there is only one girl, but I did get knocked up by a baller,” she laughed. “A big football player. That’s what I get. He’s like 6’4″.”

In March, Simpson celebrated her impending motherhood with a celeb-attended baby show. “Grey’s Anatomy” star Ellen Pompeo, Jessica Alba and little sister Ashlee all turned up at the baby-friendly fete to bestow her with all the gifts she’ll need now that she’s added “mom” to her already busy resume.

In the weeks leading up to the birth, it felt like Simpson had long-extended her due date. She even joked about the highl -anticipated birth on her Twitter, writing, “To everyone who keeps congratulating me on the birth of my baby girl…I’m still pregnant!! Don’t believe what you read ladies and gents.”

Days later she added, “I just woke up from a dream that I wore a leopard caftan in the hospital. Fabulous!! Now I need to find one!” No confirmation if a leopard caftan was worn in the hospital at the time of the birth, but given Simpson’s love for style MTV News is sure she looked perfectly stylish.

In the lead-up to the baby’s birth, Simpson had many people, including Katy Perry, wondering when she might give birth. Pery joked, “Has Jessica Simpson had that baby yet?! I’m getting anxious.”

Weeks later, Perry’s anxiety should have gone away, when Simpson’s family was spotted entering an her L.A.-area hospital on May 1.

Megan Fox Joins Long Line Of Sizzling Moms-To-Be

If there’s one thing almost all people love to rally around and obsess over, it’s a pregnant woman. The “awww” factor along with the whole “miracle of creating life” thing are a powerful combination. The level of interest skyrockets when the pregnant lady in question is a celebrity, particularly if she is consistently named as one of the most beautiful people in the world.

When the happy news broke Monday that “Transformers” beauty Megan Fox is expecting her first child, we got to thinking first about how adorable the baby will be, thanks to some killer genes from Fox and father Brian Austin Green, and then about all the other beautiful pregnant ladies we’ve seen over the years. Here are five other very hot mamas-to-be:

Heidi Klum
The fact that Klum is a supermodel is kind of unfair to begin with; the woman always looks gorgeous, including all four times she’s been pregnant. Klum’s happy family includes Leni, Henry, Johan and Lou Sulola Samuel.

Halle Berry
This beautiful Oscar winner made her pregnancy look easy. After Berry announced her happy news toward the end of the first trimester, she was photographed a lot but always looked wonderful, perpetually bathed in that pregnancy glow. No matter what role she’s playing, Alba has always managed to add extra sizzle to her scenes. Alba and husband Cash Warren welcomed Honor Marie in June 2008 and Haven Garner on August 16, 2011.

As we’ve mentioned before, much ado is made over pregnant celebrities, but never more so than when it was announced that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were expecting, first with daughter Shiloh and then with twins Vivienne and Knox. Whenever Jolie appeared in public during her pregnancies, she caused an even bigger paparazzi frenzy than normal. The very genetically gifted Jolie-Pitt clan also includes adopted children Maddox, Pax and Zahara.

It’s hard to believe that more fuss would be made over a pregnant celebrity than was made over Angelina Jolie, but when Beyoncé Knowles and Jay-Z decided to announce that they were expecting at our very own VMAs last year, it set the entertainment world on fire. The notoriously private couple managed to stay out of the public eye as much as possible, but Ms. Bey looked especially gorgeous during those nine months before Blue Ivy’s arrival. Jessica Simpson Gets Celeb-Filled Baby Shower

With Jessica Simpson not far from her due date, the singer’s friends and family gathered over the weekend to celebrate her impending motherhood.

Simpson celebrated on Sunday with other famous mamas like “Grey’s Anatomy” star Ellen Pompeo, Jessica Alba and little sister Ashlee, People reported. The party was held in Los Angeles and organized by celebrity party planner Mindy Weiss. “Jessica looked pretty and very happy,” an insider told the magazine. Another source added, “She’s so excited to be a mom. She can’t wait to meet her little girl.”

Simpson recently revealed she and her fiancé, Eric Johnson, are expecting a baby girl.

“It was a kid-friendly shower with many of her friends bringing babies,” another source told Us about the fete. “Jessica [Alba] brought her baby Haven, 7 months, and Ashlee brought Bronx, 3. She received tons of gifts mostly wrapped in pink gift wrap and boxes. There were several books, stuffed toys and clothes among other items.”

In photos posted online, Simpson is sporting wavy hair with braids throughout and wears a blue lizard-print maxi gown with her usual sky-high platforms.

In an interview with Elle, Simpson shared that she wants to pick a name that’s personal and unexpected. In Touch reports that the couple’s top contender is Maxwell, which happens to be Johnson’s middle name and his grandmother’s maiden name. “They’re going to call her Maxwell, Maxi for short,” a source said. “Jessica wanted a name with meaning.”

Jessica has reportedly been wearing an “M” pendant around her neck and had clothes ordered with the name monogrammed on it. “She’s gained so much weight and the baby is so big that doctors pushed up the date,” the source said. “Jessica and Eric are so eager to meet Maxwell!”
