‘Saw’ Director To Take Over ‘Fast And Furious 7′

Saw Director To Take Over Fast And Furious 7

Justin Lin might not be returning for “Fast and Furious 7,” but he’s signed off on the director he’s happy to see at the movie’s helm. It’s being reported that “Insidious” director James Wan will sign a deal to helm the movie by the end of this week, and Lin has giving him a big endorsement.

“I’m extremely proud to be part of the ‘Fast’ franchise, it is an experience I will always treasure,” Lin said in a statement to Deadline. “It’s time for me to move on to other things and I’m thrilled that Universal and Neal have selected James Wan to lead the franchise into its new chapter.”

Wan cut his teeth on the first “Saw” movie, and went on to direct movies like “Insidious” and the upcoming horror movie “The Conjuring” (which looks awesome, by the way). He’s currently in post-production on “

Star Vin Diesel previously teased that “Fast and Furious 7″ will start filming over the summer in Los Angeles. It’s being reported that Jason Statham could act as the movie’s villain. Three other directors who were considered for “Fast and Furious 7″ were “2 Guns’” Baltazar Kormakur, “Kick-Ass 2′s” Jeff Wadlow and “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones’” Harald Zwart.

‘Fast & Furious 6′ Featurette Previews Michelle Rodriguez Origin Story

Fast & Furious 6 Featurette Previews Michelle Rodriguez Origin Story

Instead of progressing the “Fast and Furious” storyline in “Fast & Furious 6,” star Vin Diesel and director Justin Lin are actually taking the movie a step backwards. As Diesel explained in a new featurette for the movie, this new installment of the fan-favorite series will serve to introduce audiences to the real version of Michelle Rodriguez‘ character Letty.

“In some ways, this film is the origin story of Letty,” Diesel explained. Rodriguez added, “It will be interesting to see how you take up a character that — you have to watch it, I can’t really explain much without giving it away.”

As it turns out, Rodriguez was as in the dark about her character’s reappearance at the end of “Fast Five” as the rest of the world. But Diesel said the plan all along was to make sure Letty could have a triumphant return.

“Do you know Vin didn’t tell me that, that they added that thing at the ending of ‘Fast Five‘? He just wanted to surprise me about it. I didn’t find out until I went actually into the theater and saw it myself,” Rodriguez remembered. She added of where her character’s at when the movie begins, “She is on the wrong side of the tracks. She got mixed up with a crew of people in Europe that are doing heists and they’re pretty hardcore.”

“Fast & Furious 6″ is due out on May 24.

‘Fast And Furious 6′ Set Photo Revs The Engine

Fast And Furious 6 Set Photo Revs The Engine

Who says that the movie-making business has to be all work and no play? Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Justin Lin seem to have missed the memo, because they look to be having a great time in the newest set photo for “Fast Six.”

The image was tweeted by the “Fast and Furious 6″ official Twitter account, teasing that “production has begun!” That’s great news for fans of the franchise as the series returned to its roots in 2009′s “Fast Furious” by bringing back Diesel and Walker and has stuck to them ever since. Of course, the action films have also brought newcomers into the fold like Dwayne Johnson and badass leading lady Gina Carano.

Diesel, Walker and Lin don’t seem to be the only three stars having too much fun on set. Tyrese Gibson has also taken to challenge Johnson to an arm wrestling contest, and we’d be very interested to see how that turns out.

“On the set of Fast6 in London.. I just knocked on @TheRock ‘s door and asked him if he wanted to arm wrestle for lunch,” Gibson tweeted along with a picture of Johnson’s trailer. The two are probably work out buddies as well, as Gibson later tweeted, “Just wrapped another great day of shooting #Fast6LondonUkSwag Headed back to the gym to #GrindItOut…”

Walker, on the other hand, just seems to be happy to be with his “Fast Six” family.

“Morning y’all Happy Monday from Londom Back at it with the crew @Tyrese @Ludacris @galgadot1 @sungkang @TheRock,” he tweeted yesterday.

Fast Six” is due in theaters on May 24, 2013.

Dwayne Johnson Tweets From The ‘Fast Six’ Set

Dwayne Johnson Tweets From The Fast Six Set

Dwayne Johnson just might be the person who is most excited about the release of “Fast Six.”

His inclusion in last year’s “Fast Five” helped revitalize the franchise, and he’s been gushing about his excitement for the sequel seemingly since it was announced. Now filming has begun on the movie, and he’s been tweeting up a storm to tease fans about the sixth installment of the “Fast and the Furious” franchise.

“‘Beast the Beauty’.. Me my FAST 6 partner in ass kickins (and fun) @ginacarano #BadAssChick,” Johnson tweeted along with the above picture.

Even though Johnson is one of the buffest dudes in Hollywood, it seems like he’s not going to let his workout regimen suffer just because he’s on set. If anything, he seems more committed to keeping himself looking great for the upcoming action movie.

“3:35am. London. AM cardio starts now.. then breakfast, then hit the weights, then on to set of FAST 6. Let’s roll.. #OwnIt” he tweeted last night.

And just because he really wants to keep us up-to-date on the growth of his biceps, Johnson tweeted three hours later, “Great AM cardio in beautiful London – handled done. Workout #2 starts now before heading to set of FAST 6.. #HitTheIron.”

Since you’re being so fast and loose with that camera, Mr. Johnson, why don’t you send us a few more set pictures while you’re at it? We’re sure director Justin Lin wouldn’t be too put out about the added buzz for “Fast Six.”

Gina Carano Ready To Get Her ‘Feet Wet’ In ‘Fast & Furious 6′

Action fans rejoiced earlier this week when The Hollywood Reporter announced that MMA fighter-turned-actor Gina Carano was in talks to join the sixth “Fast Furious” movie. It seemed like an inspired choice for the series that saw new life after “Fast Five” impressed last year.

MTV News caught up with the breakout star while she was promoting the Blu-ray release of “Haywire,” and she spoke excitedly about the prospects of joining the action series.

“We got a call about two weeks ago to do ‘The Fast and the Furious 6,’ ” Carano said. “We’re in negotiations for that, so if that goes through, that will be a really cool opportunity for me to get my feet wet on another big-budget film and be around all these different types of actors.”

Carano seemed pleased at the idea of appealing to different bases of fans within the action genre, moving from the art-house appeal of “Haywire” to the mainstream explosions of “Fast Furious.”

“I’m going to go from the ‘Haywire’ crew to the ‘Fast 6′ crew, so I’m going to get a very broad range of knowledge as far as people go,” she said. “It’s like two different high school groups. You’ve got the very artistic, and then you’ve got the action group of athletes, like hard-core. Very different personalities there.”

Carano is in negotiations to play a member of Dwayne Johnson‘s team in the upcoming sequel directed by “Fast Five” helmer Justin Lin. As for whether Carano has begun sizing up her soon-to-be castmates, she said that’s not something she has to think about. “No, I’m pretty secure. I don’t need to size anybody up. I’m not worried about that. I’m worried about giving a good performance and understanding my character. That’s what I’ll focus on.”

The actress wouldn’t say for sure how close she was to signing on, but remained optimistic about her prospects. “It will be really good for me, and I’m completely open to it,” Carano said. “If negotiations go good, we’ll probably start filming that.”

Mixed martial artist-turned-action star Gina Carano beat the crap out of more than a few famous faces in her breakout role in “Haywire.” Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, she may be adding Paul Walker and Vin Diesel to that list very soon.

THR reports that Carano is in negotiations to join “Fast Furious 6″ as a member of the team bent on capturing the famed car thieves alongside Dwayne Johnson‘s character, Agent Luke Hobbs. Walker and Diesel are returning for their fourth appearances in the franchise, which found new life with its fifth entry, “Fast Five,” last year.

Justin Lin is returning to direct, and the film is due out May 24, 2013.

James Cameron Advised Arnold Schwarzenegger On Fifth ‘Terminator’

A year ago, after he ended his role as the Governator and began his action star comeback phase, Arnold Schwarzenegger announced that he was shopping around a new “Terminator” film to the major studios with him back in the lead role.

Though he may not be as closely associated with the robot from our post-apocalyptic future as Schwarzenegger, James Cameron played an equally essential role in bringing the first two films to life. When MTV News spoke with director, he opened up about advising Schwarzenegger on a future “Terminator” film.

“I was talking to him back in fall about a new ‘Terminator’ film and quietly advising on that, I suppose you could say,” he said.

Read more after the jump.

Cameron told Schwarzenegger that he should not proceed with the proposed fifth film of the series unless it shifted the focus onto the character of the T-800.

“I was trying to be as encouraging as possible. Frankly, at that time, I thought it needed to be more about him,” Cameron said. “I told him he should not do it until it’s focused on his character or he shouldn’t do it. I think there are some great stories that can be told about that character that haven’t even been thought of yet.”

It’s unclear where “Terminator 5″ stands at the moment. “Fast Five” director Justin Lin was originally attached to helm, but he dropped out of the project last September.
