Kanye West’s Sixth Album: 2 New Songs Played In Poland

Kanye Wests Sixth Album: 2 New Songs Played In Poland

By Maurice Bobb

Everyone knows that Kanye West is releasing new music soon. The question, then, was where would we hear it first? The biggest mystery in hip-hop was answered Saturday (May 11) at the Free Form Festival in Warsaw, Poland.

Thanks to DJ Hudson Mohawke, who played two new ‘Ye songs between mixes of TNGHT tracks, we got our first taste of what Kanye’s follow up to 2010’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy will sound like.

Based on what festival attendees heard, it’s official: Yeezy season has begun.

The G.O.O.D. Music producer cued up an EDM-inspired track first. On the video, the song comes across as garbled and indecipherable amongst the club noise, but the futuristic pulses comes through, as does the line, “Let me show you right now for you give it up.” This could be the track that the“Cold” rapper crafted around Daft Punk’s drum beats.  ”It was very raw: he was rapping — kind of screaming primally, actually,” they told Rolling Stone of the recording session.

The second song of the night had a little more of a boom bap feel to it, layered over a hard-hitting bass line, with Kim Kardashian’s baby daddy spitting signature narcissistic lines like, “There’s leaders and there’s followers/but I’d rather be a d-ck than a swallower” and “I know that we the new slaves.”

The two sonic morsels will serve as a nice appetizer for fans, who will see the Louis Vuitton Don back in action on “Saturday Night Live” on May 18, where he’ll likely perform more unreleased music from his forthcoming sixth studio album. West has been a fixture in the tabloid headlines of late thanks to his cryptic “June Eighteen” tweet, his impending nuptials, his recent performance at the MET Gala, his upcoming cameo on “Anchorman 2” and his recent run in with a “Wrong Way/severe tire damage” sign while trying to dodge paparazzi.

Kanye West Calls Cruel Summer A ‘Sonic Snapshot’ Of Now

Kanye West may not do press, but the Louis Vuitton Don still understands the importance of good promotion. Even though his G.O.O.D. Music label compilation Cruel Summer is in stores this week, Yeezy has been nowhere to be found, instead electing Big Sean, Pusha T and Common to spread the world about the new LP. Well, on Wednesday, ‘Ye broke his silence by releasing a viral video breaking down the album.

“This isn’t the beginning of the conversation; this isn’t the end of the conversation,” Kanye said at the end of the three-minute, black and white YouTube clip. “It’s our offering as a collective of a sonic snapshot of what’s happening right now 2012, this Cruel Summer.”

The album, which was released on Tuesday, features not only West’s G.O.O.D. Music squad, but also Jay-Z, R. Kelly, 2 Chainz, Raekwon and Ghostface Killah. “We started off by just getting everybody in the lab together,” Kanye explained of the recording process. “We reached out to other camps to just do something new and exciting in hip-hop, like something minus all the politics.”

Like every album he touches, Kanye fine-tuned Cruel Summer until it met his creative standard, but the tinkering wasn’t confined to the recording studio. “We spend just as much time working on the actual album packaging, just as a video concept or a song,” he said of the all-white LP cover. “Everything is equally as important and it got to the point where I had the album artwork in front of me while I was working on the songs and I was listening and would say, ‘Does this song sound like this packaging looks?’ “

Yeezy is so creative that he even made up his own word during the candid vid. “We take it really serious, to make the best product we can, but also we’re light with it too. We just want to have fun and commune and festivalize,” he said before realizing he’s coined a new term. “I’m not sure if that’s currently a word but it will be afterwards now.”

Festivalize? Kanye never stops creating.

Kim Kardashian Gifts Kanye West $750k Birthday Lamborghini

By Rob Markman

What do you get for the rap star who has everything? Shopping for Kanye West can’t be easy, but Kim Kardashian proved that money ain’t a thing today after she copped Yeezy a super rare Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 for his 35th birthday. Lamborghini mercy indeed– the whip goes for $750,000.

Hopefully TMZ didn’t ruin the surprise when they published pics of the rare black two-door sports car. According to the site, Kardashian couldn’t bring the gift to ‘Ye because he’s in Ireland with Jay-Z for another stop on the European leg of their Watch the Throne Tour, so Kim took a video of the car in L.A. so she could show him.

“Kimye” began dating earlier this spring and have since become prime targets for the paparazzi, who have snapped the lovebirds on both coasts. The pair were also spotted at the Cannes Film Festival in May, where Yeezy premiered his “Cruel Summer” film. Last week, TMZ reported that both Kanye and Kim put their Los Angeles-area homes up for sale, fueling rumors that the two are planning to move in together.

On Wednesday, ‘Ye and his G.O.O.D. Music comrades dropped the video for their “Mercy” single, which they spot in an art-deco inspired parking garage. Now that the Louis Vuitton Don has a new toy to rap about, we wonder if a remix is on the horizon.

Kim Kardashian Gives Kanye West $750K Birthday Lamborghini

Lamborghini mercy, guess what Kim Kardashian got Kanye West for his birthday? No, it wasn’t the Murciélago — we’re pretty sure Yeezy already has one of those, seeing as the exclusive model was the inspiration for his new G.O.O.D. Music single “Mercy.” Instead, Kimmy kicked it up a notch and dropped $750,000 on a Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 for her beau’s 35th birthday.

Kanye West’s ‘Mercy’ Looks G.O.O.D. On 2 Chainz’s Resume

Two newKanye West songs in just two days — now that’s what we call a G.O.O.D. week.

A day after dropping “Theraflu,” the Louis Vuitton Don dropped a second single, this time with his G.O.O.D. Music cohorts on Thursday night.

“Mercy” not only features rhymes from Yeezy, but Big Sean, Pusha T and 2 Chainz as well. The track, which premiered on Chicago’s WGCI, was released on iTunes at midnight in conjunction with the religious holiday Good Friday.

Big Sean and Pusha T set things off, while Yeezy and 2 Chainz bring up the rear lyrically. For 2 Chainz, who recently signed to Def Jam Records, being featured on such a high-profile track has further validated his success of late. “I’m excited about it,” 2 Chainz said on Thursday during a Def Jam-orchestrated press conference call.

Though he isn’t signed to West, 2 Chainz said he’s done so much work with Yeezy that he forgot what his “Mercy” verse sounded like. “I’ve done a lot of work with ‘Ye for, like, a year now, and it was one of those songs where I called him and I told him, ‘Man, play my verse over the phone because I don’t remember,’ ” he said. “That’s a good look to add to the résumé, for real.”

Sonically, “Mercy” blends Southern rap elements with dancehall vibes. It’s unlike anything on radio currently, and that’s what excites Hit-Boy, the G.O.O.D. Music producer who whipped up the tracks for “Theraflu” and the Throne’s “N—as in Paris.”

“It’s fresh, it’s new, it’s something you haven’t heard before. It’s elements of trap, but it’s just some fresh, new-sounding stuff. I’m excited about it. I wish I did it, but I didn’t,” he told MTV News hours before the song was released.

The chief producer on the record is new Kanye protégé Lifted, but in an interview with Las Vegas DJ Bootleg Kev, Lifted revealed that Kanye also co-produced.

“Mercy” starts with a vocal sampling from the late Fuzzy Jones, whose voice has hyped up many dancehall classics. The island-laced intro gives way to an eerie-sounding bass track, sparse drums, hair-raising piano keys and a dramatic “Scarface” film sample.

Lyrically, “Mercy” is a verbal free-for-all. Big Sean picks up where his “Dance (A$$)” single left off with strip-club-inspired bars. Pusha laments about his exotic car collection, while Kayne baits lesser rappers, flashing his riches and model girlfriends. With no real concept in place, 2 Chainz closes things out with a free associative verse where spits about his black diamond chain and Louis Vuitton backpack and expensive strains of marijuana. It’s all pretty damn good!

PETA Calls Kanye A ‘Caveman’ After He Baits Them On ‘Theraflu’

Not everyone is in love with Kanye West‘s “Theraflu.”

While Yeezy’s fans are fawning over his new track, PETA (or People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) took exception to the song’s hook. “Someone tell PETA my mink is draggin’ on the floor,” Kanye spits in the song’s opening bars and then again on the chorus.

Well, the animal-rights organization heard the Louis Vuitton Don loud and clear and fired back with a message of their own on Thursday (April 5). “What’s draggin’ on the floor is Kanye’s reputation as a man with no empathy for animals or human beings,” PETA’s senior vice president Dan Mathews said to MTV News in a statement. “He’s a great musician but doesn’t seem to have the fashion sense to design anything more than caveman costumes.”

Seems like PETA also caught wind of ‘Ye’s fashion outing in early March when he presented his fall/winter collection during Paris Fashion Week; the rapper used quite a bit of fur in his women’s line.

PETA hasn’t closed the door completely on Kanye, however. They’re still hopeful that he will eventually have a change of heart. “We keep hoping that one day he’ll find his heart and join evolved style icons — including Russell Simmons, Pink and Natalie Portman — who have dropped animal skins,” Mathews said.

The MC’s fashion taste isn’t the only topic addressed on “Theraflu.” Kanye touches on his ex-girl Amber Rose, Wiz Khalifa (Rose’s new man), and his feelings for Kim Kardashian. “The whole industry wanna f— ya old chick/ Only n—a I got respect for is Wiz/ And I’ll admit I fell in love with Kim/ Around the same time she had fell in love with him,” Kanye spits over the Hit-Boy-produced beat.

He even threw a perceived shot a Kim’s ex-husband and New Jersey Nets star, Kris Humphries: “Lucky I ain’t have Jay drop him from the team.”

Kanye And GZ’s Knit Stilettos Go On Sale For $6K

Kanye West is a master collaborator. Last year, the Louis Vuitton Don hooked up with Jay-Z to release their tag-team Watch the Throne LP, and now the fashion-forward MC has collaborated with Italian designer Giuseppe Zanotti to drop a swanky pair of high heels. The shoes will fetch far more than a Throne CD though, with a price tag of around 4,420 euros (approximately $5,800).

Folks first caught a glimpse of the bone-color, pearl-embroidered heels during Paris Fashion Week last October. The buzz around Yeezy’s women’s line was heavy and the reviews were mixed, though the Giuseppe heels seemed to be an overwhelming favorite. For now, Kanye and Giuseppe’s hot-stepper is only available through the trendy French retailer Colette.

For ballettes on a budget, there is a second, all-black strappy design made of velvet leather that goes for $930.

Kanye recounted his days of learning shoe design from the Italian fashion icon back in January during his unforgettable Twitter spree. “I snuck to Giuseppe Zanotti Factory still under contract and learned to design women’s shoes for 2 years before my first show in Paris,” he wrote.

In August of last year, Zanotti praised Kanye’s dedication to fashion. “[Kanye] loves learning about shoes [...] both the design and construction, and we’ve tried to design something together,” he told Womens Wear Daily. He added, “In a couple of months, he could have his own special collection out.”
