Matthew Vaughn Collaborator Suggests ‘Star Wars’ Gig Is His

87678 Star Wars Big Matthew Vaughn Collaborator Suggests Star Wars Gig Is His

Does Jason Flemyng know something we don’t about Matthew Vaughn and “Star Wars: Episode VII”?

It certainly seems like he has a different understanding of the rumors surrounding his frequent collaborator and Hollywood’s most closely-watched directing gig. At an event for “Seven Psychopaths” in the UK, Vaughn’s frequent collaborator spoke about the possibility of reteaming with him for “Episode VII” as if it would most likely happen and the deal was done.

“Me and Matt have done nine films together, so I’m sure I’ll get the call for ‘Star Wars,’ but I’m sure it’s going to be [impersonating Vaughn], ‘Flemyng, no, Flemyng, I know on paper it doesn’t look like much, but I promise you, it’s essential to the part.’ So we’ll see what happens.”

Harmless enough, but then when the interviewer asks if Vaughn is interested in the job, Flemyng gets confused.

“I think that’s—yeah, he’s interested, yeah, by the deal,” he said with a telling look on his face.

So what is this exactly? It’s not quite the confirmation many blogs are making it out to be, but there’s a reason Flemyng reacted the way he did. Of the contenders we know of, Vaughn appears to be the most realistic at this point and one of the few that haven’t taken their name out of the running. For now, take it with a grain of salt and file this one away into your Matthew Vaughn evidence folder.

‘Star Wars’ Rumors: Carrie Fisher In, ‘Safety Not Guaranteed’ Director Being Considered

a63bd Disney Star Wars Lucas Star Wars Rumors: Carrie Fisher In, Safety Not Guaranteed Director Being Considered

For those of you who may have lost track of the recent “Star Wars: Episode VII” development, this is pretty much where things stand:

Lucas has met with writers, but won’t hire a director himself. Hamill knew about it last year and said he was game in 1983. Ford, amazingly, said he was open to returning, which made one of our writer think this might happen.

Now a missing piece has fallen into place. Carrie Fisher, who supposedly also met with Lucas and Hamill last supper, told TMZ that she’s up for another go as Leia, presumably not in the slave getup. “Yes, sure,” Fisher replied when asked about returning.” “Wouldn’t you?” Yes, Carrie Fisher, we absolutely would.

The other piece of “Episode VII” talk making the rounds on the web today is that Colin Trevorrow, the director of the indie charmer, “Safety Not Guaranteed,” is being considered as a possible director. According to a report from Celebuzz, Old Georgie was a big fan of Trevorrow’s directorial debut.

Make what you will of all of that, but after the Matthew Vaughn rumor earlier in the week and this talk now, it is safe to say that we are entering a golden age of “Star Wars: Episode VII” rumors.

Rumor Alert: Matthew Vaughn In Running For ‘Star Wars: Episode 7′

d558f Star Wars Big Rumor Alert: Matthew Vaughn In Running For Star Wars: Episode 7

The rate of growth of “Star Wars: Episode 7″ talk is escalating. In less than a week, we’ve moved from wild speculation to what is now being reported as the first major rumor as to who will direct the first installment of a new trilogy.

Steve Weintraub over at Collider just published a story based on tips that he received from his sources, who claim to have inside knowledge of an ongoing deal. According to them, ex-”Thor,” -”X-Men: First Class,” and -”X-Men: Days of Future Past” director Matthew Vaughn is now in talks with Disney and Lucasfilm to helm at least the first installment of a new “Star Wars” trilogy.

As this is the first widespread rumor citing a specific director, one clearly labeled as such, and one that isn’t backed up with secondary sources, we would normally, instantaneously and mercilessly roll our eyes at it, but Collider’s story is getting play on most of the major movie blogs for a couple of reasons.

The first is Weintraub’s track record. When it comes to posting unconfirmed rumors, Collider has a pretty good track record of being right or close to right. It was just last week that they scooped the announcement of Francis Lawrence as the director of both “Mockingjay” movies.

The second is the timing of all of this, and here’s where it starts getting conspiratorial. According to Collider’s sources, “Star Wars” is the reason for Vaughn’s sudden departure from “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” a film he’s been developing for quite a while. Vaughn left that project in the hand of Bryan Singer days before the Disney-Lucasfilm announce.

It all sounds suspicious, but “Days of Future Past” isn’t the first movie Vaughn has walked away from. Hell, it’s not even the first “X-Men” movie he’s walked away from. (He eventually came back to “First Class.” Obviously.)

The first rebuttal came a short time later when Borys Kit from Heat Vision took to Twitter to share his insight on the talk. “Good Matthew Vaughn directing Star Wars Episode 7 rumor out there,” he said. “Being told it’s not true.”

So for now, we suggest sticking out your lower lips, nodding your head, saying “That would be pretty cool,” and then going on with your life until we hear something from Lucasfilm, which should be relatively soon if they plan on sticking to their 2015 release window.

Chloe Moretz hinted for months at a “Kick-Ass” sequel. Jane Goldman, who co-wrote the script with Matthew Vaughn, said the duo probably wouldn’t pen the next script, but would oversee the project as producers. And now, Christopher Mintz-Plasse says he’d be on board! With all the rumors and waiting it feels like “Arrested Development” and “Anchorman 2″ all over again, but it worked out splendidly for those projects!

The “Superbad” actor did say there’s “no word yet,” but wishing and hoping has worked for us in the past. I mean, “The Avengers” is happening, isn’t it? Rose Byrne Wants A ‘Bridesmaids’ Prequel… In Space?

There’s been plenty of talk recently about a “Bridesmaids” sequel, with the talent involved frequently saying they’d be interested in potentially reprising their roles in the film. MTV News recently caught up with Rose Byrne, who joked that she’s got a better idea for the follow-up than a sequel.

“I’m pitching a prequel. Yeah. Before they were bridesmaids. Maybe in outer space. Yeah, that’s what I’m thinking,” Byrne said with a laugh. “Just modern. Go modern. Let’s go, right? Let’s reinvent it.”

In all seriousness, Byrne said she’s going to be sad to be away from her costars for an indefinite period of time now that the awards season is over.

“The girls are very inspiring and, I know, me and Melissa had our little gag at the Oscars, and I know, I kind of miss them, even though I’m sure I’ll see them again, but the season of all of that is over. It’s going to be a while until we’re all in the same room together,” she said.

But that’s not the only sequel Byrne could potentially be involved in. She also had a pivotal role in “X-Men: First Class” that could be reprised in the project’s planned sequel. When asked if she’s heard anything about the follow-up film that director Matthew Vaughn is working on, Byrne said she hasn’t but that she’s up for anything.

“I would love to [be in the sequel],” she said. “I really enjoyed my time on ‘X-Men,’ and Matthew Vaughn’s super great and talented. But I think these things take a while to marinate and come together. But yeah, I’d love to.”

Do you think “Bridesmaids” and “X-Men: First Class” should have sequels? Tell us in the comments section below or on Twitter!
