Watch Busta Rhymes And Ol’ Dirty Bastard 1994 Freestyle

By Rob Markman

In the mid-1990s few rappers could match the rawness of Busta Rhymes and Ol’ Dirty Bastard. Though distinctly different, the two gruff-toned, Brooklyn MCs made their mark around the same time and while they only recorded one track (Busta’s “Woo-Hah!! Got You All In Check” remix) before Dirty passed away in 2004, they made for a deadly combination.

On Monday (May 20) Dj Tony Touch gave another look at Bus and ODB in tandem when he released never-before-seen footage of the two trading rhymes at the 1994 Gavin Convention in New Orleans. It’s all part of a 50 webisode series that Toca palns to drop to ramp up the release of his July 9 The Peacemaker 3: Return of the 50 MCs LP.

In the video Busta Rhymes, who is flanked by 90s rap notables like Rampage, Dinco D., Spliff Star, Lil Dap and Agallah, sets off a cypher kicking rhymes from his then-unreleased “Woo-Hah!!” single two years before the track was released to the public.

When Bus was finished Dirty jumped in reciting the lyrics to “Damage,” an album cut from his 1995 debut Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version.

“I’m gonna give you 50 webisodes, every day for 50 days straight and I’m gonna show you guys footage that you ain’t never seen in your life,” Touch bragged. “20 years of content that I’m gonna give you.”

Lil Wayne Explains Gumbo On ‘The Show With Vinny’ Premiere

By Carolyn Amurao

Lil Wayne was the very first guest on Vinny Guadagnino’s new television series, “The Show with Vinny,” a sort of hybrid reality/talk show which premiered on MTV Thursday night (May 2). The Young Money rapper visited the “Jersey Shore” castmate’s Staten Island home to talk about tattoos, his clothing line, and skateboarding. But Vinny’s interview didn’t start until his mother served up an Italian meal and tried to figure out what gumbo is.

“What’s gumbo?” she asked as soon as Wayne said that he’s from New Orleans. Weezy explained that there are different types of the dish such as seafood gumbo. “So it’s like stew,” she said, to which the rapper replied, “Exactly.”

So now that everyone knew what gumbo was, Vinny had the clear to pick Wayne’s brain. Wearing one of his own shirts, Weezy discussed his most meaningful tattoo, the story behind his clothing line Trukfit (which stands for “the reason you kill for it”), and why he got into skateboarding.

“It looked so fun… something in me said ‘I wanna do it, and I wanna do it right now. So I made a phone call and I was like, yo, I want a ramp built on my roof right now,” he said, adding that he had never picked up a skateboard in his entire life. “In the hood where I’m from, it’ ain’t cool to have a skateboard.”

Vinny then invited his guest to an indoor skate park in Staten Island called 5050. Wayne, aka “John” according to Vinny’s “crazy” Uncle Nino, went up and down the ramps and even offered the host some skate tips. Vinny struggled to stay on his board while “John” seemed to enjoy what was probably one of his more unconventional show appearances. “Look at me, there’s no other talk show that can get this,” the rapper said, pointing to his perspiring face. “I don’t care what question you ask me I’m not gonna sweat like this.”

Rick Ross Apologizes To Fans, Reebok Over ‘Rape Lyric’ Outcry

Rick Ross Apologizes To Fans, Reebok Over Rape Lyric Outcry

By Maurice Bobb

Rick Ross, according to his last album title, God Forgives, I Don’t, doesn’t forgive like the man upstairs. But the MMG CEO may be changing his tune after taking to Twitter Thursday (April 4) to apologize to women’s rights groups–and women in general–in the hopes that they’ll forgive him for what they are calling pro-rape lyrics on “U.O.E.N.O.,” where he rapped: “Put molly all in her champagne, she ain’t even know it/I took her home and I enjoyed that, she ain’t even know it.”

“I dont condone rape.Apologies for the #lyric interpreted as rape. #BOSS,” Ross tweeted just a few hours ago, adding, “Apologies to my many business partners, who would never promote violence against women. @ReebokClassics @ultraviolet.”

Protesters gathered Thursday at Reebok’s flagship store in New York City to protest the Bawse’s lyrics in the hopes that Ross, who has an endorsement deal with the sneaker giant, will be dropped from its roster of endorsers.

Ultra Violate, a women’s right group, claims to represent 400,000 men and woman who aim to “combat sexism everywhere,” and hopes to present over 71,000 signatures to Reebok urging the sneaker company to end ties with the “Touch’N You” MC.

“By holding Rick Ross up as something to aspire to, Reebok is sending the message that raping a woman is cool–and that’s a dangerous message to send the boys and young men that Reebok markets to,” said Nita Chaudhary, co-founder of UltraViolet on the site. “This is what rape culture is. Reebok needs to know that we won’t stand for this. Will you sign the petition telling Reebok that rape is NEVER okay and they should drop Rick Ross right away?”

Rozay tried to make amends for his lyrical transgressions before, when he addressed the situation during an interview with Q 93.3 in New Orleans.

“There was a misunderstanding with a lyric, a misinterpretation,” he said. “I would never use the term ‘rape’ in my records and as far as my camp. Hip-hop don’t condone that, the streets don’t condone that, nobody condones that. So I just wanted to reach out to all my queens that’s on my timeline, all the sexy ladies, the beautiful ladies that have been reaching out to me with the misunderstanding: We don’t condone rape, and I’m not with that.”

Ross also said that “Woman is the most precious gift known to man,” but his followers are not buying his previous statements or his apology via social media. And judging by the negative outcry from people on Twitter, this may be the incident that finally does hold the rapper back.

@Vivaciously_Val “this is supposed to be an apology?? oh. RT @rickyrozay I dont condone rape.Apologies for the #lyric interpreted as rape. #BOSS

@CLJB “You’re my boo but do better. Do better.”

@Christiana1987 “What you described was rape. No grey area here. Do better. “@rickyrozay: I dont condone rape.Apologies for the #lyric interpreted as rape.”

@3RoseScott “Sis we didn’t interpret anything, you outright say you’re going to slide someone a Molly and she didn’t eem know it. @rickyrozay”

?@MoreAndAgain “If you can’t apologize properly #STFU is an option. RT @rickyrozay: I dont condone rape.Apologies for the #lyric interpreted as rape. #BOSS

?@shakedancer “@rickyrozay problem here is that what you were describing is rape and there’s no other way to interpret it.”

?@BDAHT “Dese ni–as” might can’t hold @rickyrozay back, but “dem lyrics” doing a decent job right now.”

@franklanzkie “Dawg you said you took her home, had sex with her & she didn’t know it. That’s rape my nigga. @rickyrozay”

@beauty_jackson “That’s not an apology Wonder Boobs @rickyrozay”

@StephBMore “These fake ass apologies tho lol RT “@rickyrozay: I dont condone rape.Apologies for the #lyric interpreted as rape. #BOSS

@lomonur “Interpreted as”? What a lame ass (non-)apology. RT @rickyrozay I dont condone rape.Apologies for the #lyric interpreted as rape. #BOSS

@kim_tastiic “Ross only apologized because he was going to losing sponsors @DeeJayCess”

Rick Ross’ Explanation For ‘U.O.E.N.O’ Fuels Rape Lyrics Debate

Rick Ross Explanation For U.O.E.N.O Fuels Rape Lyrics Debate

Rick Ross is featured on Rocko##Q##s single “U.O.E.N.O.” which debuted on his Gift of Gab 2 mixtape back in February, but the song became a hot topic this week when writer and activist Rosa Clemente zeroed in on some of its controversial lyrics. Specifically, she took issue with a couple of Ross##Q## lines that seem to make casual reference to rape. Now Ross##Q## explanation for the line is sparking even more anger and debate.

“Put Molly all in her champagne, she ain##Q##t even know it/ I took her home and I enjoyed that, she ain##Q##t even know it,” Rozay spits on the track. As the topic gained more steam, Ross eventually addressed the lyrics during an interview with Q 93.3 in New Orleans.

“There was a misunderstanding with a lyric, a misinterpretation,” he said. “I would never use the term ##Q##rape##Q## in my records and as far as my camp. Hip-hop don##Q##t condone that, the streets don##Q##t condone that, nobody condones that. So I just wanted to reach out to all my queens that##Q##s on my timeline, all the sexy ladies, the beautiful ladies that have been reaching out to me with the misunderstanding: We don##Q##t condone rape, and I##Q##m not with that.”

Did Rick Ross##Q## explanation that the lyric was a ##Q##misinterpretation##Q## alleviate fans, and specifically, women##Q##s concerns though? It actually seemed to add more fuel to the fire based on the feedback:

@BethLanai a facebook friend just posted this on the link to the OHN Rick Ross article: “Rape is not a semantics game.”

@IamMelody Rick Ross doesn##Q##t condone rape BUT rapping about putting drugs in a drink w/o her knowing then taking her home & having sex w/ her is ok o_0

@JOYdaGREAT Well if u r a rick ross fan you probably don##Q##t care what his explanation is and will continue to listen to him anyway

@RIZNUT Dear Rick Ross: you didn##Q##t clear up anything in that interview. You avoided it. Explain the rape lyrics or I won##Q##t believe the brick lyrics

@KNealTX Rick Ross trippin wit that molly line #smh

@poeticlyspkng Dear #rickross- just because you didn##Q##t use the word rape doesn##Q##t make it anything short of rape. #weheardyou

@CandyCornball Rick Ross says the “woman is the most precious gift to man”. Nope. I##Q##m not a gift. Misogyny cloaked in cotton candy.

@1017_Josh I think it##Q##s weird how in Rick Ross##Q## new song he blatantly raps about date raping a girl and everyone is just kinda cool with it.. lol

@NewMoney_Stokes Rick Ross has made it hard for himself by spitting those bars that glorify rape.

Birdman, Mack Maine Happy To Have Lil Wayne Home From Hospital

Birdman, Mack Maine Happy To Have Lil Wayne Home From Hospital

Lil Wayne has spent six days in the intensive care unit at Cedars-Sinai hospital in Los Angeles after suffering from more seizures on Friday, but the New Orleans native has finally been released and his YMCMB family are happy to have him back home.

Both Birdman and Mack Maine took to Twitter to let fans know that Weezy was on his way home after giving family and fans a scare last Friday when news broke that he was in critical condition after being found unconscious in his room. “Thanks to Cedar Sinai for everything!!! @LilTunechi has been officially been released and is headed home….God is great,” Mack Maine tweeted early on Tuesday morning (March 19).

Birdman chimed in shortly afterwards, adding, “God Bless.my son just release frm hospital.thanks 4 all tha luv.YMCMB.Richgang.”

While Wayne was hospitalized there were rumors that his seizures had been triggered by drug use, but Birdman dismissed them. “To me, it##Q##s just his work ethic. It##Q##s just how he put in and what he believe in and how hard he work, how much dedication he gives to music and his fans and what he tryin##Q## to accomplish in life. It had nothing to do with drugs,” he said during a phone interview with Hot 97. “He just needs to get some rest, relax, take it one day at a time.”

During his almost week-long stay in the hospital Weezy was visited by family members and his YMCMB crew, including Drake and Nicki Minaj who came with a handful of balloons for her boss and close friend.

Emmett Till’s Family Addresses Lil Wayne In Writing

Emmett Tills Family Addresses Lil Wayne In Writing

By Victoria McCarthy

On the unofficial release of Future’s “Karate Chop(remix),” Lil Wayne pushed the envelope too far, drawing waves of criticism for a controversial reference to Emmett Till. The provocative verse almost immediately got a response from Till’s cousin Airickca Gordon-Taylor, who even penned an open letter to Weezy this week, airing out her concerns.

In the letter via VIBE she wrote, “When you spit lyrics like, ‘Beat that p—-y up like Emmett Till,’ not only are you destroying the preservation and legacy of Emmett Till’s memory and name, but the impact of his murder in black history along with degradation of women.” She continued on, appealing to Lil’ Wayne not as a celebrity, but as a father himself saying, “ How would you feel if your child was beaten beyond recognition, body mutilated and disfigured, tortured for hours, unnecessarily shot after being BEATEN TO DEATH…”

However, Ms. Gordon-Taylor concluded her letter on an uplifting note adding, “Together we can ignite a modern day movement. You would be a great asset to the struggle.” As she told the Chicago Sun-Times on Wednesday, it is neither her nor the foundation’s desire to villainize or defame the New Orleans born rapper. We just want Emmett’s name removed from that song,” she said.

Though Weezy has yet to comment on the controversy, Future spoke out on his behalf. Friday night, he told MTV News, “The record it was done from a good place, good art, he ain’t have no bad intentions when he was thinking about it like that. It was used in a different way, but I understand it,” he said. “So at the end of the day we’re gonna move on from it and find a way to build.”
