New ‘Bourne Legacy’ Trailer: Five Key Scenes

Of all the summer’s potential blockbusters, “The Bourne Legacy,” the Matt Damon-less continuation of the spy series, has the most to prove. Series tend not to fare well once the star exits, but the latest trailer for “The Bourne Legacy” is making us believe that it could buck the trend.

Here are our five key scenes from the new “Bourne Legacy” trailer.

Weisz’s Role Revealed
Until now, most of the promo material has focused squarely on Jeremy Renner‘s Aaron Cross and how there was “never just one.” One of the first things this full trailer does is formally introduce us to Marta, the doctor Rachel Weisz plays in the film. (Her hand appeared briefly in the first trailer.) When Edward Norton’s Agent Byer decided to liquidate the operation, both Marta and Cross find themselves in harm’s way. That’s the set-up that eventually brings them together to go on the run.

Connections to the Past
Perhaps the most intriguing element of the new trailer — besides how badass Renner is — has to be the clear connections to the previous film, “The Bourne Ultimatum.” Both Corey Johnson, who plays the government crony, and Paddy Considine, who didn’t survive the events of “Ultimatum,” show up in the trailer. It appears that the events of “Ultimatum” and Bourne’s appearance in Manhattan spur the events of “Legacy.”

Jason Bourne Again
Speaking of Jason Bourne, there’s Matt Damon’s face right there in the trailer. The actor has made it clear that he himself won’t appear in the newest addition to the series he led through three films, but his headshot does briefly appear on a newscast in the trailer. Director Tony Gilroy told us during our Summer Movie Preview that Bourne’s presence would be felt in the early parts of the “Legacy.” “What happens in ‘Ultimatum’ is really the spark that’s blowing open the door to this movie because the Jason Bourne story is exploding out into the public,” he said. “Being impossible to conceal any further is causing problems for this much larger conspiracy. ‘Ultimatum’ plays in the background of the very beginning of this film.”

Agent Aaron “Moto” Cross
As with the teaser trailer, a good portion of the full trailer focuses on the chromosomal enhancements that have been made to Aaron Cross. He heals quickly, and he can grind a railing with a freakin’ motocross bike. Was one of the “inconsistencies” within Treadstone that the characters talk about in the trailer the inability to grind a railing with a freakin’ motocross bike?

Matt Who?
If this trailer does one thing particularly well, it silences all of Renner’s doubters. His action on display here is definitely on par with the kung-fu antics of Matt Damon. Whether he’s on the bike or sliding between buildings or emerging from freezing water with a full beard, Renner looks poised to take the reins in style.

Be sure to see how Renner’s “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol” co-star, Tom Cruise, fares when he goes up for two MTV Movie Awards, Best Gut-Wrenching Performance and Best Fight, this Sunday, June 3, at 9 p.m. ET live on MTV.

‘Possession’ First Look: Embrace Your Inner Evil

Yard sales are harmless. Normally, anyway. When you’re at a yard sale that just so happens to include an antique wooden box containing a horrible evil spirit, that’s when you’re in trouble. And that kind of trouble is most certainly brewing for young Em, seen below in your very first look at the new horror movie “Possession.”

The above photo, part of our Summer Movie Preview week, is our first and best look yet at “Possession,” the August-debuting thriller from producer Sam Raimi and stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Kyra Sedgwick. Based on true events, “Possession” tells the story of the Brenek family: father Clyde, mother Stephanie, and daughter Em. When Em purchases an ancient box at a nearby yard sale, she becomes obsessed with her new artifact, and with good reason — lurking inside is a dibbuk, a dislocated spirit that inhabits and ultimately devours its human host. Not pretty.

“Possession” hits theaters on August 31, 2012.

Will Ferrell, Zach Galifianakis Are ‘Deluded Losers’ In ‘The Campaign’

For the past few years, Jay Roach, the director of the “Austin Powers” series, has alternated between making comedies and true-life political films for HBO. His latest effort, “The Campaign,” combines those two very different genres.

In “The Campaign,” Will Ferrell plays a popular incumbent North Carolina congressman who suffers a scandal and faces a political opponent for the first time in year, played by Zach Galifianakis.

We spoke with Roach for our Summer Movie Preview and learned just how ridiculous politics can be and what it’s like to have Ferrell and Galifianakis on set together.

MTV: You’ve been switching between political films and comedies recently. What’s it like to combine the two?

Jay Roach: That’s been an enjoyable part of this one. I’ve been working on some more serious films at HBO, but Will and Zach and Adam McKay came up with this idea and asked me to get involved about two guys running against each other for a congressional seat and mentioned that it would mostly be about how the win-at-all-costs approach to politics these days could be taken to an absurd degree. It might be funny. I pictured those two guys, Zach and Will. I’ve worked with both of them briefly on other films, and the idea of those two going up against each other in a super, super negative campaigning situation made me laugh. It would be a chance to delve back into some of the political issues but in a very comedic format.

MTV: Do you find politics funny?

Roach: It’s funny, but it’s painful. It’s painful that it does get absurd. There’s definitely humor, but when you’re doing it about real-life situations, it makes me anxious. It’s uncomfortable. I spent a fair amount of time to put people back into uncomfortable situations that they, in a certain way, wish to avoid because they already happened. I’m trying not to let them forget about them. It’s a painful thing to ask the audience to go through. It’s a little therapeutic in a different way to laugh through it, as opposed to cry through, because I found myself crying through the other stories. This one, I’m laughing.

MTV: Did doing those political films before help you make this political comedy?

Roach: It did help that I had a little bit of a background and had done a little bit of research. I’m still very naïve about politics. Through the research for those films, I was able to familiarize myself with how campaigns work, especially how spin doctors work, how campaign consultants work. Jason Sudeikis and Dylan McDermott play the respective spit doctors for Will Ferrell’s and Zach Galifianakis’ characters. Seeing how those dynamics work does at least create a plausible version of that that could be funny.

MTV: How far removed from reality are the politics of “The Campaign”?

Roach: In a certain way, you want to say it’s far removed, but if the current campaign is any indication, it’s not that far. While we were shooting, we would sometimes come to the set having seen a debate the night before and “Oh my God, reality is trumping us. We better step it up.” I do think politics have become kind of a circus anyway. We were just a contrived circus, as opposed to the real one. Because it’s Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis, and they are determined to smear each other to destruction, we use that premise some of the campaign ads and campaign stunts pretty far.

MTV: What was it like having two great comedians in the leads?

Roach: They’re incredible. I had a great time with both of them. Each is an excellent improviser and a great designer of character. When I heard they might want to work together, I don’t know where that goes wrong. Those two guys, who are both very, very good at playing somewhat deluded losers, going against each other with the conviction that they both deserve to be winners, that to me always sounds fun. They compensate for any of their deficiencies by just turning up the conviction that they are super capable. In the case of story, they turn up their antagonism toward each other. In some of the debate scenes, we just let them run and kind of go at each other, using their own improv skills and fantastic stuff came out of it.

MTV: Were they as funny off-camera?

Roach: I would also do stuff off-camera with them. In a debate, I had not decided who the background actors should be cheering for, usually you predetermine that. I just said to the actors off-camera, “Whoever they like best, that’s who they’re going to cheer for.” They started wooing the crowd between takes, offering them bribes and special drinks if they would be on their side. Zach started sharing his little portable fan that he would use to cool off in the New Orleans heat. Will started passing out trays of water. It was hilarious watching them. Then they turned on each other and started insulting each other to try disparage the other and turn their audiences away from them. It was just a funny trick. They riffed so much that I just kept doing it.

Bruce Willis Really Likes The ‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation’ Cast

It’s hard when you’re the original G.I. Joe and you’ve got all these young kids with their exploding motorcycles and cliff-side ninja fits to compete with. Bruce Willis knows the feeling.

MTV News caught up with the action legend as part of our Summer Movie Preview, and Willis had nothing but kind things to say about his younger co-stars.

But he does give credit where credit is due. In “G.I. Joe: Retaliation,” Willis plays the Joe who was there when it all began, Original Joe. “Joe Colton is actually the original G.I. Joe,” Willis said. “In the story, he started the outfit a long time ago, and that outfit are kids compared to us.”

His co-stars might just be kids to him, but Willis could hardly stop himself dealing out the compliments when it came to the cast. “We had such a great cast in this film, really funny and strong and tough guys, pretty girls and funny at the same time,” he said.

One of Willis’ co-stars, in particular, had him chuckling on set. “Adrianne Palicki, who plays Lady Jaye in the film, had Willis laughing up a storm. “Adrianne Palicki, that girl cracks me up. She is so funny. She made me laugh so many times, just great,” he said.

As for his male co-stars, a man of action himself, Willis was impressed by their work, especially Byung-hun Lee as Storm Shadow. “Action guys do things that I would never do. I can’t even call myself an action guy,” Willis said. “This guy, Byung-hun Lee, we’re going to put him in another movie he’s so great. He’s just awesome.”

Exclusive: Take A Look At ‘The Odd Life Of Timothy Green’

Sometimes, dreams do come true, no matter how ridiculous, impossible or—dare we say it—odd they seem. Just ask Cindy and Jim Green, who quite possibly dreamed their 10-year-old son into existence.

Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton star in “The Odd life of Timothy Green” as two parents struggling to have a child. One night, they imagine what their son would be like, writing down his attributes and quirks on a sheet of paper and burying it in their backyard. What began as a way to vent frustration becomes something rather miraculous, when a 10-year-old boy named Timothy (CJ Adams) arrives on their doorstep to claim the Greens as his own.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt: ‘Looper’ Is ‘The Best Work I’ve Ever Done’

9b89f Looper Banner Joseph Gordon Levitt: Looper Is The Best Work Ive Ever Done

We’re understandably excited for Rian Johnson‘s “Looper.” It’s got a mind melting premise, a badass trailer and promises of a classic Joseph Gordon-Levitt performance.

We thought that it was impossible for anyone to be more excited about “Looper” until we talked to Gordon-Levitt. He’s really excited.

Gordon-Levitt spoke to us for our Summer Movie Preview and couldn’t help but mention the upcoming sci-fi film with his “Brick” director Johnson.

“‘Looper’ is, to be honest, some of the best work I’ve ever done as an actor,” Gordon-Levitt said. “I really transformed myself. Rian Johnson, who wrote and directed ‘Brick,’ is—I think—one of the greatest filmmakers going.”

In his praise for Johnson, Gordon-Levitt even went as far as comparing him to two other directors he worked with this year, Christopher Nolan and Steven Spielberg. “[Johnson] actually has a lot in common with Chris Nolan and Steven Spielberg. He’s a brilliant, brilliant guy. I cannot wait for people to see that movie,” he said.

The trailer that dropped last week was enough to convince us to see “Looper,” but Gordon-Levitt said that’s only the start of the fun. “From that little trailer, you can hardly get it. They wanted to make a big, banging action movie trailer, which is accurate because it is a big, banging action movie,” he said. “But when you actually see the movie and you really get a sense of what those prosthetics look like, I’m really excited for people to see this character because it’s just nothing like me. That’s my favorite thing as an actor, to create a character that’s other than myself.”

Ben Foster Talks Sex, Victimizing And Connecting For His New Movie ’360′

Fernando Meirelles‘s “360” tells a complex story of interweaving characters and plots, but what makes the tale so unique is that the connection between all the characters is sex. The intimate encounters of the film bring together an impressive ensemble that includes Anthony Hopkins, Rachel Weisz, Jude Law and Ben Foster.

cd14b 360 Ben Foster Talks Sex, Victimizing And Connecting For His New Movie 360

In “360,” Foster plays Tyler, a sex offender who was recently released from prison. The events of the film find Tyler in an airport and chronicle his encounter with a young woman played by Maria Flor. Foster talks about all of that and more in the exclusive interview below, all part of our continuing Summer Movie Preview week.

MTV News: How is it different for you as an actor to have a smaller role in a much larger, global film?

Ben Foster: The very nature of the structure of this film is that it’s a world of supporting players. Thematically, it poses the question “Do we all affect each other?” As an actor coming in, it’s fast. We’re all in for a few days, and then we’re out. It’s different because there are no leads in the film.

MTV News: Tell me a bit more about your character, a recently paroled sex offender.

Foster: He’s someone who’s just trying to do the right thing. It’s not that a sexual predator is released and he’s just looking for his next prey. A theme of the movie is how we’re always challenged with our primitive urges, in conflict with what we think is the right thing. I don’t see him as a sex offender. This is a guy who did something that’s criminal and, from my side, I was certainly in the corner that anyone who is a sex offender should be shot. Having the opportunity to spend time with the character and watching the tapes, these men and women who have committed the worst unforgivable crimes, you have to start somewhere. Looking into the face of evil and finding humanity is the greatest goal of an actor.

MTV News: How do you approach a character like that, one who is inherently unsympathetic?

Foster: In front of the camera, one isn’t necessarily going for sympathy. From my own approach, so many of them have been victimized. How did they get there? It doesn’t make what they did right and they should be punished. Everyone knows someone who has been victimized. The reason this man is in the airport is that he’s on his way to a halfway house by his own volition.

MTV News: “360″ is about people’s connections with everyone on the globe. Those connections in the film are all sexual. What idea about sex does “360″ put forward?

Foster: We all have urges. We all have fantasy lives. We all feel at some point undervalued by a lover or perhaps we undervalue our partner, be a mundane existence in a tired marriage or young love that has run off the fumes of early honeymoon romance. Straying happens. Desire exists. Sex is the mechanism for intimacy. We feel less lonely in the world. The film poses the questions from across the globe in a broad sweep. How do we feel less lonely in the world? Is it an affair? Is it addiction? I don’t believe the film gives answers so much as it asks questions.

MTV News: The director, Fernando Meirelles, is known for his global films. What was it like working on set with him?

Foster: I couldn’t speak higher of a director. He has an incredible eye. He is a family man. He’s interested. It was a joyous set. I would work with Fernando on a puppet show. He’s just the best.

MTV News: How did it feel knowing you were a part of such a revered ensemble?

Foster: It’s an honor to play with these people, truly an honor. Watching Sir Anthony Hopkins work, there’s a scene at the end of the picture at an AA meeting that is truly a masterclass.

Tell us what you think of Foster’s thoughts on “360″ in the comments section or hit us up on Twitter!
