Just when you thought Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ “Thrift Shop” had reached its peak–being certified 4 times platinum earlier this month–the hip-hop duo set another milestone with their infectious single. This week Macklemore and his production partner brought home some more hardware after the tag-poppin’ single went five-times platinum, Rap Radar reports.
“Thrift Shop” isn’t just a phenomenal sales story either, the catchy tune hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart yet again, after getting knocked out of the top spot by Baauer’s “Harlem Shake.”
Though “Thrift Shop” continues to grow, Mack & Ryan aren’t resting on it’s laurels. The pair recently shot a music video for “Can’t Hold Us,” another stand-out song from their LP The Heist and they’re looking to break even more records. “We##Q##re working on a music video for ##Q##Can##Q##t Hold Us,##Q## which will be the longest video shoot we##Q##ve done yet: 16 days for a music video!” Lewis said backstage at the 2013 mtvU Woodie Awards at SXSW earlier this month, where they won the Branching Out Woodie Award. “That##Q##s getting wrapped up and we##Q##ll be cutting that, and outside of that, we##Q##re just playing a ridiculous amount of shows.”
Seems like the guys have this music thing figured out, even if they haven’t quite figured out what a Branching Out Woodie is. “I don’t even know what that is? What is the Branching out Woodie? Oh, [it’s for] social media? I feel like my Twitter sucks. My Instagram filters are dope, so maybe that counts,” Macklemore said. “To be nominated for any Woodie is fresh. I think it##Q##s a more grass-roots, underground, college demographic, and that##Q##s a lot for where we come from, in terms of our core fan base, and it seems really parallel with what the Woodies are all about.”
How much further can Macklemore & Ryan Lewis take “Thrift Shop“?
