Big Sean Didn’t Expect Kanye West, Jay-Z Feature On ‘Clique’

G.O.O.D. Music’s latest Cruel Summer single “Clique” premiered in full on Thursday after a 30-sec snippet leaked earlier in the week, and Big Sean admits that he was shocked to find out that Jay-Z and Kanye West both ended up on the track with him.

The Detroit rapper explained that he originally recorded his portion of the song in London for Kanye West, and hadn’t heard much about it until a recent phone call informed him that both Jay and Kanye would be included on it.”I did the chorus in London to the beat and ‘Ye liked it or whatever [but] I was the first one to do my verse. So I did my verse first, sent it back to him, and didn’t hear anything back.

The next time he bumped into 2 Chainz, the Atlanta rapper gave him a thumbs up on the track, but there was still no update from Kanye himself. “Then I get a call a little bit later after that, and somebody told me that Hov is on the record and I was like, ‘damn,’ ” he continued. “They were like Hov and ‘Ye hopped on it, so I’m thinking, ‘Ah, they’re probably gonna take my verse off even though I laced it’ — you know, the Throne, Kanye and Jay … but then I get the call like, ‘Nah, it’s you Kanye and Jay-Z.’”

Big Sean has worked closely with Kanye West for some time now, and his debut album included collaborations with everyone from Rick Ross to Chris Brown, but this was something extra special. “I remember the first thing I thought was, ‘Damn, I’m excited as hell,” and then I was like, ‘Damn, I wish I ain’t have to do my verse first,” he added, laughing. “But I think it’s well-represented and it’s on the G.O.O.D. Music album and it’s on my next album too.”

The Hit-Boy-produced track is heavy on drums and finds all three rappers bragging about the strength of their clique, with Jay-Z spitting, “Yeah I’m talking ‘Ye, yeah I’m talking Rih, yeah I’m talking Bey/ n—a, I’m talking me/ yeah, boss sh– I ain’t talking Kelis.” Can’t argue with that.

“It was an honor to be on that song with those dudes,” Sean said, recalling another memorable moment that took place last weekend in Philadelphia. “When we [were] walking off the stage at Made in America in Philly, and we were walking to the dressing room, Kanye was like, ‘Man, I’m glad you rapped for me at that radio station,’ and I said, ‘Sh– man, me too.’ ” The 24-year-old was referencing his 2005 encounter with West outside of a Detroit radio station that eventually led to his record deal.

Big Sean is currently working on his sophomore album, but he dropped his Detroit mixtape earlier this week to tide fans over until its release.

Lil Wayne, Big Sean Get Ridiculous In ‘My Homies Still’ Video

By Carter Maness

After its original release in early June, the first single from Lil Wayne‘s I Am Not A Human Being 2, the Big Sean-featuring “My Homies Still,” has gotten a video treatment.

Watch “My Homies Still” video here

The colorful clip is pure psychedelia with stop motion freakiness oozing through each frame. Wayne, in his wackiest mode, raps in front of an elephant wearing gigantic yellow-and-black zebra-print shorts and skateboards around the set. Meanwhile, Big Sean sits in a lawn-chair clad in black and spits his rhymes next to a skeleton. Yes, it’s totally ridiculous, but that’s what summer is for, right?

At the time of the song’s original release, Wayne was embroiled in a controversial beef with Big Sean‘s G.O.O.D. Music brethren Pusha-T. After the Clipse rapper dropped the vicious “Exodus 23:1,” Wayne retaliated with “Goulish” and then dropped “My Homies Still,” which was recorded before the diss tracks, soon after. The Young Money/G.O.O.D. battle has been relatively quiet since then.

I Am Not A Human Being 2 is still slated for release later this summer.

Big Sean, Tyga And Pusha T Talk Drake/Chris Brown Beef

Get More: Music News

By Rob Markman
Everyone loves a good competition, but when it comes to Chris Brown versus Drake and the dis track that Breezy released over the weekend, some of the superstars closest friends are calling for a truce.

“Nobody wants to see them beef,” Tyga told MTV News while on the red carpet for the 2012 BET Awards on Sunday (July 1). “They both make great music, they’re both talented, but at the end of the day, as men, they have to figure out what they want to do.”

Tyga, who is a part of Lil Wayne’s Young Money crew alongside Drake, has been a longtime friend and collaborator of Chris Brown‘s. In 2010, Tyga and Breezy dropped their collaborative Fan of a Fan mixtape, so T-Raw is kind of stuck in the middle. “Chris is my brother, Drake is family too, so it’s like at the end of the day, they gotta handle that like men,” he said. “It’s like nobody else can mediate that, and it’s like that’s how it goes sometimes.”

On June 14, Brown and Drake’s respective entourages got into a bottle-throwing brawl at a New York City nightclub, and on Saturday, Breezy dissed Drake in a rap freestyle over Chief Keef‘s popular “I Don’t Like” instrumental. “One on one, what you scared, bruh?/ Matter fact, Take Care, bruh,” Chris spit, referencing both the melee and the title of Drizzy’s sophomore album.
G.O.O.D. Music’s Pusha T, who was in Los Angeles recording with Brown this weekend, applauded the Virginia singer’s rap performance. “Chris is so artistic, man. He’s just a free spirit, so you just gotta like it and accept it for what it is,” Push said. “Lyrically, I think he gets busy. He’s a writer.”

Big Sean is also good friends with Brown, and while he hasn’t talked to him personally about the tiff with Drake, Sean urged his buddy to put the negativity behind him. “Hopefully they get it resolved, honestly, man. People ain’t got no time for no beef,” the Finally Famous lyricist said.

“People ain’t got no time to be beefin’. We workin’ too hard for our fam, for our kids, our unborn kids to have a bright future. Nobody got no time for that.”

Next time Sean gets to sit down with Chris, he will make sure to tell him that. “I’m real good friends with Chris. I’mma make sure I tell him that to his face,” he said.

Do you think Chris Brown and Drake should end their beef? Let us know in the comments.

Ludacris And Big Sean Put Their Beef Behind Them

By Rob Markman

File this under “must’ve missed it,” but Ludacris and Big Sean have put their beef behind them. The tiff started after Sean and Luda debated over who originated a certain rap flow, but during a May episode of BET’s “106 Park” Sean quickly announced that he and Cris had talked things out.

Many missed the moment, but Luda also confirmed that the two had a chance to hash out their differences when he sat with Bootleg Kev during a Memorial Day weekend radio interview in Las Vegas. On Monday (June 25) a video version of the interview popped up on YouTube and reached rap fans outside of Vegas’ borders.

“We had a show in Australia and we actually got a chance to sit down,” Luda said of his meeting with Big Sean. “We’re just gonna keep it positive right now.”

On Big Sean’s 2010 mixtape single “Supa Dupa” he employed a start and stop flow, where he delivered his one-word punchlines in a similar way that Twitter users employ hashtags. Drake, Fabolous and Luda have all used the flow after Sean dropped “Supa Dupa,” but on “History Lesson” a skit off of Luda’s 2011 1.21 Gigawatts: Back to the First the ATL rapper used soundbites to trace the hotly contested rap style back to A Tribe Called Quest’s 1991 classic “Buggin’ Out.” Then of course Luda proceeded to dis both Big Sean and Drake on “Bada Boom.” But now it seems all the drama is over, maybe we can even get a Big Sean/Ludacris collaboration. Who knows?

Are you glad that Ludacris and Big Sean sqaushed their beef? Let us know in the comments

Big Sean Performs With Justin Bieber On ‘Today’ Show

By Jocelyn Vena

Justin Bieber made summer Fridays a little bit sweeter for fans who lined up to see him perform on the “Today” show on Friday morning, and the pop star brought along Big Sean to perform “As Long as You Love Me” with him.

From there he popped, locked and sang his way through his catalogue of tracks, some from his June 19 album release and some from his past albums. He brought the energy for his My World track “Baby” (even rapping his way through Ludacris’ part), but he brought out Big Sean to rap alongside him on “As Long as You Love Me.” He had recently teased on Twitter that he had plans to bring out a special guest.

“Make some noise for the legendary, one-and-only Justin Bieber,” Sean told the audience after they wrapped up. As for Bieber, well, he only had eyes for his fans. “I want to say thank you guys so much for waiting. I really appreciate it,” he told the crowd.

Justin’s fans camp out in the rain for three days!

Bieber also performed “All Around the World,” but in between songs, he met fans and chatted with them about their signs. He even picked a fan whose sign he liked best and gave her tickets to his upcoming tour.

“I’m really excited to be able to travel the world again and see all my fans. … Everyone, they got to believe,” he said of the trek.

Before he took the stage at Rockefeller Plaza, Bieber sat down with Matt Lauer and opened up about making a mature album.

“At the end of the day, it is [a lot of pressure]. I’m 18 and I have a lot of insecurities, and at the end of the day, me being in my position, it doesn’t, like, get rid of those insecurities,” he said.

“And so coming out with this album, I know I’ve been working hard on it and I know I’ve been doing well, so I’m confident in the album. But, you know, it’s coming out in two days.

“But I think it’s about proving people wrong,” he added. “And going out and making good music and going out there and performing better than everyone else, and that’s what you have to do to cross over.

Otherwise I’m going to be another teen heartthrob. I want to be remembered.”

Recently, his manager, Scooter Braun, said that despite being legal, Bieber will still get a lot of guidance. That doesn’t seem to be something that the singer minds. “I think that I’m at a place. I’m 18. I’m still growing up. I’m still learning about different things: girls, my music,” he said. “So I’m not all the way there, but I’m at a stage where I’m growing and my fans are growing with me and I want to make music that reflects that.”

Lil Wayne Takes No Shots On ‘My Homies Still’ Ft. Big Sean

ff295 myhomies Lil Wayne Takes No Shots On My Homies Still Ft. Big Sean

By Carter Maness

Lil Wayne has finally dropped the first single from his upcoming sequel album I Am Not A Human Being 2, but there’s a twist: The track, “My Homies Still,” has a surprising feature from G.O.O.D. Music rapper Big Sean. It was only last weekend that Wayne, after hearing Pusha T’s “Exodus 23:1,” went on the attack against the Clipse rapper and, by association, the entire G.O.O.D. Music roster. Wayne’s most recent song, “Goulish,” was pure retaliation.

That said, Wayne’s fondness for Big Sean and his “Dance (A$$)” single from 2011 is temporarily overshadowing his ill-will towards Pusha. Using that song’s ubiquitous “Go stupid” hook and a very similar beat produced by STREETRUNNER and Saron from Spliffington Management, “My Homies Still” is a bouncy, rap-heavy track that’s ready for radio.

Similar to what Wayne did with Rick Ross’ “I’m Not A Star” on their collaborative cut “John,” Weezy has flipped an already-popular track into something new and even huger sounding. With no apparent disses, Wayne drops punchline-heavy verses that touches on women, skating and other trademark topics.

As the track was already recorded and slated to be a single, Young Money president Mack Maine preemptively addressed the potential conflict from including Sean. “That was a great song that was made before that situation happened,” he told MTV News. “I’m not ’bout to go into the studio and tell Wayne to take [Big Sean] off. Wayne not tryna take him off – he’s good peeps, he’s fam.”

I Am Not A Human Being 2 is expected to drop later this summer.

Kanye West Remixes Chief Keef’s ‘I Don’t Like’ For G.O.O.D. Music

6bd4b dontlike Kanye West Remixes Chief Keefs I Dont Like For G.O.O.D. Music

The first track we’ve heard from the upcoming G.O.O.D. Music album was “Mercy,” with features from Big Sean, Pusha T and 2 Chainz and on Friday night Kanye West announced the title of the camp’s next release “I Don’t Like.” Ye posted the album’s cover art on Twitter, revealing that it will include verses from himself, Pusha T, Jadakiss, Big Sean and buzzing Chicago rapper Chief Keef, known for  his hit “I Don’t Like” featuring Lil Reese.

The G.O.O.D. Music cut will  be a remix to Keef’s original track, according to Ye, who simply wrote “GOOD MUSIC CHIEF KEEF REMIX.”

There have been rumblings that Kanye has been collaborating with the up-and-coming Chitown rapper and the new artwork confirms that. On Friday Chief Keef tweeted that he was being courted by the YMCMB team, writing, @CampaignSosa300 “Birdman Just Called He Say He Wanna Sign Me Wit #CMB

It’s not confirmed whether or not the track will actually appear on the upcoming G.O.O.D. Music compilation. In march producer Mannie Fresh told MTV News that the project will be very eclectic. “The cool thing about G.O.O.D. Music is it’s a bunch of great ideas and I’m one of those ideas,” he said. “[Kanye's] trying to find the most talented producers, most talented artists, put ‘em all in a room and say, ‘Go for it. Y’all energy, like whatever is creative to y’all.’”
