And there it is.

‘Breaking Dawn – Part 2′ Has #8 Box

As Edward and Bella’s story draws to a close, the franchise that captivated a generation of fans has landed one more entry in the top 10 list of all-time box office openings. “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2″ took in an estimated $141.3 million in North American theaters over the weekend, which was the eighth-largest domestic opening of all time.

“Breaking Dawn – Part 2″ managed to beat the $138.1 million opening of last year’s “Part 1,” ‘though it fell slightly behind 2009′s franchise best, “New Moon,” which kicked off with $142.8 million. Overseas, “Breaking Dawn – Part 2″ took in $199.6 million, pointing to a future that will likely be consistent with the $700 million-ish worldwide grosses of most “Twilight” films.

All the dust from the Team Edward/ Team Jacob battle has settled, Bella’s vampire transformation is complete and the most favored fictitious werewolf of the supernatural-romance generation even developed (spoiler alert!) eyes for someone else. Even as rumors swirled about a possible reboot, interest remained impressively high for the book-based series that launched the careers of Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner with the 2008 adaptation of Stephenie Meyer‘s first novel.

What is Kristen Stewart’s big post-”Twilight” plan?

Box-office forecasters and major media outlets like the Los Angeles Times had predicted an opening north of $150 million, which would have eclipsed previous installments the way the finale of “Harry Potter” was able to do. Supposed franchise finishers for “The Lord of the Rings” and “Star Wars” accomplished the same feat, though both series are back in motion.

Entertainment Weekly went with a more conservative $135 million to $140 million, which was in line with Summit Entertainment‘s own estimates. Still, while not a franchise best, for a “Twilight” movie to still crack the top 10 all-time openings list five years after the series debuted speaks volumes about the devotion of the series’ most ardent supporters to the very end.

Speaking of box-office records, “Skyfall” continued on its path to being the biggest James Bond movie ever, landing at #2 with another $41.5 million for a domestic total of $161.3 million. In just 10 days, last weekend’s #1 film was already nipping at the heels of current 007 record-holder “Quantum of Solace,” which made $168.4 million during its entire run.

Robert Pattinson is about to get “really tough” in his post-”Twilight” career.

Disney’s Oscar-bait picture “Lincoln” had the biggest weekend for a non-documentary film about a real life president, according to Box Office Mojo. Steven Spielberg‘s period drama about the passage of the 13th Amendment took in $21 million as it expanded from 11 theaters to 1,775. The Mouse House had plenty to celebrate from its animation division as well, with “Wreck-it Ralph” landing at #4 with $18.3 million for a three-week total of #121.5 million. “Flight” finished out the top 5 with $8.6 million, dropping 42 percent even as it expanded to 2,612 theaters for a total of $61.3 million thus far.

‘Breaking Dawn – Part 2′ Debut Breaks Into All-Time Box

“Breaking Dawn – Part 2″ broke into the top 10 all-time opening-day list, though it has yet to break franchise records.

The final installment in the “Twilight” film series enjoyed the sixth-biggest opening day ever on Friday, sinking its teeth into an estimated $71.2 million in domestic box-office receipts. “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2″ took in $30.4 million during late-night showings Thursday night as fans lined up around the country for 10 p.m. and midnight showings to see what twists filmmakers added to the final appearance of Edward, Bella and Jacob. The rest of the cash came in Friday.

The first day for the last entry in the book-based franchise phenomenon that made stars out of Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner was just a bit shy of the $72.7 million made during the first day for “New Moon” and the $71.6 million generated by “Breaking Dawn – Part 1.” The late-night showings were about on par with 2010′s “Eclipse.”

Lionsgate/Summit experimented with 10 p.m. showings for “Part 2,” which wasn’t the case for “Part 1.” That entry opened in November, like this one, whereas “Eclipse” bowed in June, when more people were out of school and able to attend late-night screenings and first-day showings. Nevertheless, “Part 1″ also took in about $30 million from late-night screenings.

A Missouri man was arrested Friday after admitting plans to shoot up a “Breaking Dawn – Part 2″ screening.

The last chapters in mega-franchises like “Harry Potter,” “Lord of the Rings” and “Star Wars” all beat their predecessors’ first-day numbers, according to BoxOfficeMojo.com. However, “Breaking Dawn – Part 2″ still looks likely to set a franchise record with the overall opening weekend. Industry forecasters predicted a weekend haul of at least $150 million to MTV News.

Major outlets like the Los Angeles Times agreed with the $150 million-plus number, although Entertainment Weekly predicted a more conservative $135 million to $140 million. Summit Entertainment went with the lower-end estimate of $135 million as well.

“Breaking Dawn – Part 2″ premiered overseas Wednesday and took in $91 million during its first three days abroad.

Last week’s #1 movie, “Skyfall,” dropped 60 percent Friday, with $12.35 million. Daniel Craig‘s third turn in the tuxedo is still on track to become the biggest James Bond movie ever. “Lincoln” took in $6.37 million as it expanded from 11 theaters to 1,775. The biggest kids’ movie in theaters, “Wreck-It Ralph,” took in $4.42 million. “Ralph” has made $107.6 million for Disney Animation in 15 days.

‘Twilight’ The Musical? Taylor Lautner Weighs In!

It seems that Taylor Lautner isn’t ready to say goodbye to Jacob Black just yet. The lovelorn werewolf has a few ideas up his hairy sleeve that he thinks could work to keep the “Twilight Saga,” and Jacob, alive a little bit longer.

“How about a musical? That would be fun!” Lautner told MTV News.

If a “Twilight” musical isn’t a wacky enough idea for you, Lautner is ready to cast real-life vampires and werewolves for the small screen. “What about a reality TV show? Is that possible?”

And he even had some sage advice for whomever might play Jacob in that musical or reality show. “I’ll say ‘Have fun,’ because this character has been unreal to me,” Lautner told us at the “Breaking Dawn – Part 2″ red-carpet at the premiere earlier this week. “Truly, I can’t imagine a cooler character to play over the past few years. Have fun with it and enjoy it.”

Well, until any of those ideas come to fruition, there is the final film, which opens this week. And like many a “Twilight” fan, Lautner is having a hard time saying goodbye to the franchise. “Seriously, there are so many emotions going on inside of me right now,” he said. “I don’t know if I say ‘sad.’ I don’t know if I say ‘excited.’ There are so many things. It’s a weird feeling.”

And for fans feeling as blue as he is, Lautner suggested that they check out the “DVDs, re-read the books, I don’t know. We’ll love to still travel and see them [for the film's overseas premieres], but the good thing is, we’re all going to be in it together. We’re going to be dealing with PTSD.” (PTSD, of course, stands for “Post-’Twilight’ Sadness Disorder.”)

Taylor Lautner On Post-’Twilight’ Depression: ‘We’re All In It Together’

For fans of the “Twilight Saga,” the world’s biggest going-away party took place Monday night (November 12) at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. The cast of “Breaking Dawn – Part 2” hit the black carpet to greet fans and gather for one final time before it all ends.

Though his character may not have won the affection of Bella, Taylor Lautner walked the carpet victoriously to pay his final respects to Jacob Black, but his emotions were decidedly mixed as he closed out the series.

“Seriously, there are so many emotions going on inside of me right now,” Lautner said. “I don’t know if I say ‘sad.’ I don’t know if I say ‘excited.’ There are so many things. It’s a weird feeling.”

The “Twilight” premieres have always been a sight to behold, with a city of tents and camping fans, but the “Breaking Dawn – Part 2″ premiere held special significance for Lautner. “I’ve soaked every one up so far, because they only happen once a year, but this one is different, because this is the last one,” he said. “It was a different approach, but I don’t know. It’s tough. It’s not over yet, so I’m going to continue to enjoy it. I don’t even want to think about when it finishes.”

Fans of the series are on the brink of experiencing a shortage of content for the first time in years, something MTV News’ Josh Horowitz called “PTSD” or “Post-’Twilight’ Sadness Disorder.” Lautner suggested they retrace their steps of fandom and take solace in their companions. “DVDs, re-read the books,” he suggested. “I don’t know. We’ll love to still travel and see them, but the good thing is, we’re all going to be in it together. We’re going to be dealing with PTSD.”

But there’s no doubt that “Twilight” material will last forever, and Lautner had some words of advice for whoever could potentially take over the role of Jacob in a future incarnation. “I’ll say ‘Have fun,’ because this character has been unreal to me,” he said. “Truly, I can’t imagine a cooler character to play over the past few years. Have fun with it and enjoy it.”

As for whether the end of “Twilight” meant the end of Lautner, Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson sharing the screen, Lautner said he would “absolutely love” to reunite with his co-leads.

“I’ve always said that a lot of people haven’t seen the funny sides to Rob and Kristen and maybe even myself,” he said. “They are hilarious, so I like your idea of a romantic comedy. Maybe a dramedy, so we can get a little bit of brood in there.”

Monday night’s premiere didn’t mark the ultimate end of Lautner’s work for the series, but he told MTV News that he looks forward to some time off. “Tomorrow, we’re off to Europe. We’re going to enjoy that,” he said. “Probably when it’s done, I will take a little breather, enjoy the holidays, spend time with family and friends, and then get ready to get going again.”
