‘Jersey Shore’ Cast And More Celebs Fight To ‘Restore The Shore’

In a continuing effort to help the victims of Hurricane Sandy get back on their feet and rebuild what was lost in the devastation, MTV hosted “Restore the Shore” on Thursday (November 15), an hour-long telethon designed to help raise awareness and funds for those affected by the storm.

MTV News’ Sway Calloway kicked things off by introducing a group that has become synonymous with one of the areas most affected by Sandy, the stars of “Jersey Shore,” who took turns answering the phones and sharing their reactions to the destruction in and around the neighborhoods they once called home.

“To see it like that is devastating,” Deena Cortese said. “I hope we raise enough money to restore it.”

Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi shared her experience of taking a helicopter ride to see the destruction from the air.

“I saw [the devastation] in the helicopter for the first time. Just seeing the boardwalk not there was scary,” she said after re-watching her trip. Snooki said she hoped to be able to bring new son Lorenzo to the Shore if enough money is raised to rebuild it.

“Sandy, you little bi—, you tried to destroy us,” she said during her helicopter tour. “But we’re going to build it better and stronger than it ever was.”

In addition to castmembers from “Jersey Shore,” we were pleased to have several stars from other popular MTV shows join in the telethon effort, including “Teen Wolf,” “Awkward.,” “Teen Mom” and “The Challenge: Battle of the Seasons,” who all took turns at the phone bank talking to generous donors. Several heartwarming conversations even made their way onto the live broadcast.

Some other famous friends donated their time and voice via messages of encouragement and heartfelt pleas for people to band together to help restore the shore. Those who participated included: Britney Spears, Blake Shelton, Pharrell Williams, Nicki Minaj, Fun., One Direction, Taylor Swift, Simon Cowell, Kim Kardashian, T.I., No Doubt, Kelly Clarkson, Carson Daly, Nikki Reed, Ludacris, Dakota Fanning and Adam Levine.

“Teen Wolf” stars explain why they pitched in to “Restore the Shore” on MTV’s Remote Control blog.

MTV was also lucky to have some artists lend their voices to the cause: We are delighted to offer free downloads of the music played during the broadcast and extra grateful to Gym Class Heroes and O-Land and “American Idol” winner Phillip Phillips, who came to our Times Square studios for live, acoustic performances of their hits “Fighter” and “Home.”

One of the most moving aspects about the telethon was seeing those familiar party-friendly faces from “Jersey Shore” get serious about asking for help and offering it up themselves during visits to Shore hotspots often featured on the show. The cast’s visit to their former workplace, the Shore Store, was particularly emotional, due to it being wrecked by Sandy and seeing the reaction by owner Danny Merk, who broke down in tears when he saw the interior of the store in total disarray.

All in all, it was an emotional evening for all involved, but it’s not over: You can still help “Restore the Shore” by visiting RestoreTheShore.MTV.com or by texting SHORE to 85944 to make a $10 donation.

Fun. Want You To Dig Deep For ‘Restore The Shore’

Like millions of kids, the members of Fun. have fond memories of endless summers spent hanging at the Jersey Shore. As adults, the trio has also put in time playing gigs in the area that was one of the most heavily damaged by superstorm Sandy.

That’s why they are among the dozens of musicians and actors who’ve signed on to help MTV raise funds for the victims of Sandy by participating in tonight’s “Restore the Shore” benefit show.

“This is the band Fun. and we want to talk about something that is very dear to us,” said singer Nate Ruess in a message recorded for the special. “Recently the hurricanes have ravaged the Jersey Shore, which is a place we’ve spent just a lot of time.”

Guitarist Jack Antonoff, a native of Bergenfield, New Jersey, added, “tons of time. I grew up going there and through all the years of us being friends and starting Fun. we’ve been going there almost ever summer. It’s a place that means a lot to us.”

The men of Fun. will do their part on tonight along with the cast of the “Jersey Shore” and dozens of other stars to lend a hand to those who were impacted by Sandy during MTV‘s “Restore the Shore” benefit.

Snooki Helicopters Over Jersey Shore Boardwalk Before ‘Restore the Shore’ Fundraiser

They say you can never go home again. And in the case of “Jersey Shore” star Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, that’s literally true in the wake of superstorm Sandy. The new mom and Seaside Heights legend took to the air recently to view the destruction wrought by the killer storm from a helicopter and she was shocked at what she saw.

“Oh my god!” Snooki gasped as she flew over the boardwalk that she came to know so well on the hit MTV show, shocked at the site of the nearly wiped out Funtown Pier and its roller coaster, which now sits in the ocean. “This really sucks. The whole pier is just gone. It’s really sad. The roller coaster that I always go on is in the water.”

Wiping tears from her eyes, she added, “there’s like no boardwalk. We had so many memories here and everything’s just destroyed.”

Snooki will join her fellow “Shore” cast members and an all-star cast of musicians to lend a hand to those who were impacted by Sandy during MTV‘s “Restore the Shore” benefit on Thursday night.

Taylor Lautner Still Harbors ‘Hatred’ For His ‘Twilight’ Wig

At this point in their “Twilight” careers, the lead actors are so comfortable in their roles that it’s difficult to imagine a time when Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner ever felt awkward or anxious during filming.

However, in walking down memory lane with the trio, we’ve learned that Stewart suffered an “excruciating” headache on her first day, Pattinson pulled a butt muscle, and Lautner was in a fight with that long, luscious black wig he wore.

“The wig, it was a very important co-star. Right now I’m not missing much,” Lautner joked about not having any warm, fuzzy feelings for that particular hair accessory. “There was hatred between both of us. It did not like me, I did not like it. Not fond memories.”

On a more serious note, Lautner said he battled his share of nerves in coming to set, because he was the last to arrive.

“The first one, I was probably nervous. I came in halfway through filming so everyone already knew each other, it was a big party, and then I came in being the youngest, and I was pretty nervous,” he recalled. “But it quickly ended up being fine. The first one was strange, but for ‘New Moon,’ that’s when we got rolling. It was satisfying and exciting,” Lautner said of fighting for and winning his spot in the sequel after Jacob was nearly recast, “and I was much more comfortable with everyone and in the role.”

“Teen Wolf” star Tyler Posey once had a shot to play a different wolf — when he auditioned for Jacob Black in “Twilight.”

While we’re on the subject of fond “Twilight” memories, we enjoyed Pattinson pointing out the fact that he got a little handsy with Lautner while filming “Eclipse.”

“I remember grabbing your boob all the time in this one,” Pattinson said to Lautner.

“I remember he had to, like, stop me every time,” Lautner said, mimicking Pattinson copping a feel. “And you were doing it hard.”

Ah, memories.

The Situation, Tyler Posey Team With Wolf Blitzer In MTV’s ‘Ask Wolf’ Series

With Election Day exactly three weeks away (!), MTV is launching a new online series featuring the most unlikely of team-ups: CNN’s Wolf Blitzer and the stars of two popular MTV series, “Jersey Shore” main man Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino and “Teen Wolf” star Tyler Posey.

In the series of spots — appropriately called “Ask Wolf” — Sitch and Posey present Blitzer with a series of burning questions from young voters, including “Will my vote matter if I don’t live in a swing state?” and “What are the pros and cons of voting for a third-party candidate?”

Blitzer responds by reminding young voters that, even if they won’t be casting ballots in a battleground state, it’s important that they still head out to the polls, pointing out that there are plenty of countries around the world where voting isn’t allowed. “Your vote always matters … there are plenty of other votes that are important in your state right now, [like] senatorial races [and] gubernatorial races,” he said, adding that, even though there is no viable third-party presidential candidate, “the most important thing is that the voter feels good about who he or she is voting for … and if that means voting for a third-party candidate, go for it.”

You can watch Wolf’s answers in the first two videos, which premiered Tuesday (October 16) on Powerof12.org and MTVNews.com. MTV‘s “Ask Wolf” series will continue up until Election Day, which, just in case you forgot, is November 6.

Rihanna, Miley Cyrus Flaunt New ‘Dos On VMA Red Carpet

The fashion on the 2012 Video Music Awards red carpet was as glorious and unpredictable as ever. MTV Style’s ‘Red Carpet Report’ host for the evening, Holland Roden of “Teen Wolf,” wore a nude Pamela Rolland knee-length dress with Giuseppe Zanotti heels and Neil Lane jewelry, but the rest of this year’s fashion ran the gamut from paint-splattered, waxed jeans on Mac Miller to long gowns on Alicia Keys and Katy Perry.

Hair news was big this year, Rihanna debuted a short, sweet, jet-black pixie cut. Miley Cyrus, who broke Twitter this summer with the news that she’d lopped off her hair into a spiky, punky ‘do, unveiled how abbreviated locks set off an evening ensemble and Pink flaunted a row of metal spikes in the part of her hair. Alicia Keys, our resident Girl On Fire also showed off a shorter, sleek, blunt bob with honeyed highlights.

The biggest style surprise of the night had to go to Ke$ha who, despite earlier red-carpet appearances, elected to forgo the smeared face dirt, cheek glitter and deconstructed garbage bags for shiny blonde, pin-straight hair, clean looking makeup and a black, floral overlay, mini dress that the “Blow” singer actually helped design herself. The dress took two weeks to create with the help of cocktail-dress designer, Ugo Zaldi, and for the record, the work paid off.

Check out the hottest red carpet looks at the 2012 VMAs!

Even though the VMAs always showcase a slew of unorthodox red carpet looks, there were a surprising number of floor-length dresses but that’s where the traditional elements stop. Miley, Alicia and Katy all wore dresses that flaunted trains. Miley’s frock, a somewhat goth look for the singer, featured cut-out chiffon panels strategically located on the bodice. Alicia’s dress was olive, draped, asymmetrical and wholly goddess-like, and Katy, whose hair flowed in pretty tendrils over her shoulders, wore a sequined black dress with blue-and-red floral patterns and well as a leather bow.

The Jersey Shore cast (save JWoww and new mom Snooki) gathered on the red carpet en masse looking as gloriously tanned and well turned out as ever. Vinny’s did a throwback to the ’50s with thick-rimmed Ray Ban glasses, a red Michael Bastian jacket with a popped collar, rolled-up Diesel jeans, white socks and Prada loafers.

The Wanted boys did not disappoint the glut of screaming fans and all wore complementary Tommy Hilfiger suits. Not to look too matchy and boy band-ish, each switched up the detailing on the tie, shirt, shoes and the pattern of the suiting. There were pinstripes, plaids as well as Jay representing for the adventurous V-neck set with a tee that showed off a positively titillating amount of sternum. Bless.

Watch the 2012 VMA Red Carpet Report with Holland Roden.

Other fellas were definitely putting D’s on their chest in the dapper department, namely 2Chainz who was dripping in Versace hardware with a studded leather jacket, Versace logo Medusa head Jesus piece, slip-on Medusa shoes and metallic pants. The only details that Donatella did not dream up were the Givenchy locket on his other chain (spoiler: like Kevin Hart mentioned, dude has WAY more than just the two chains) as well as the Givenchy cap on his covetable, long hair. If he ever Gift of the Magi’d his braids ladyfans would be so, so, so sad.

Mac Miller wore one of the few Canadian Tuxes of the night in paint-splattered jeans and a studded denim jacket. One of my favorite couple looks of the night was the all-black on Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose. Wiz’s shrunken suit ended in monk-strap shoes and Amber wore a skin-tight dress that gently curved at her baby bump. They were conscientiously picking bits of lint off each other and holding each other close. Excellent team work.

Roc Nation young’n Rita Ora wore a deep-V, long-sleeved, jewel-encrusted romper that was somehow covered in shattered jewel shards yet fit her like a glove. Rita mentioned that it was custom made and the bespoke attention-to-detail definitely shows in the artist’s enviable topography. In other romper news, Nicki Minaj also wore a Versace onesie that hugged her curves gloriously. A jaunty police cap topped the look.

The 2012 MTV Video Music Awards were a blast! Stick with MTV for continued coverage of everything that happened onstage, backstage and behind-the-scenes.

‘Teen Wolf’ And ‘Awkward’ Stars Show Us How To Pose On VMA Red Carpet

As the VMA clock continues to count down to tomorrow’s (Thursday, September 6!) star-studded show, everyone and everything VMA-related is in final preparation mode. The stage is being set, rehearsals are in full swing, final wardrobe fittings have been scheduled and finishing touches are being added to the first ever double-decker red carpet.

You might be wondering, how are the assorted nominees and attendees preparing for their red-carpet appearances? MTV News sought out “Teen Wolf” star Tyler Posey and “Awkward” star Molly Tarlov to get their tips and tricks on how to best maximize a walk down a red carpet. Both Posey and Tarlov have attended their fair share of A-list events, including previous VMAs, and as such, the real-life pals revealed that they’re willing to change-up their usual carpet-walking routine.

“Everyone has kind of a different red-carpet style. I want to work on perfecting the ‘not smile’ look,” said Tarlov of the closed lip ‘photograph face’ perfected by celebrities such as Kim Kardashian, Katie Holmes, etc. “I always smile.”

“I always smile,” admitted Posey. “I don’t like that [no smile] look. I feel like that’s weird.”

“I know, but I feel like I should be able to do it,” Tarlov said.

“Oh no, you definitely could,” said Posey, which prompted both TV stars to strike their best red carpet photograph faces, Tarlov showed us her “no smile” face while Posey showed off his “cheesy grin” photo face.

“See the contrast?” Posey asked, clearly pleased with their demonstration.

“Do we both look good doing it?” Tarlov asked.

We think they nailed it. What do you think?

The 2012 MTV Video Music Awards are set to go live from Staples Center in Los Angeles on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
