Exclusive Damon Lindelf Interview Excerpt From Official ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ Magazine

Exclusive Damon Lindelf Interview Excerpt From Official Star Trek Into Darkness Magazine

Star Trek Into Darkness” is a mere two week away from revealing all of its secrets to us, but since we still have some time to wait before see where the next adventure of the Starship Enterprise crew takes them, we have an exclusive to help make the waiting a little easier.

Tomorrow, May 7, the official “Star Trek” magazine publishes its special movie edition, complete with an interview with “Into Darkness” co-writer Damon Lindelof. We have exclusive excerpt from that interview, which you can check out after the jump!

As the co-creator of Lost, and the big screen co-writer of “Cowboys and Aliens” and “Prometheus,” Damon Lindelof knows plenty about staying humble in the shadow of success, as he’s taken plenty of praise and peltings for his written words. With regards to “Star Trek”…
“Our attitude coming out wasn’t high-fiving, bumping chests saying, ‘We own “Star Trek” now!’ Yet it’s a slippery slope, because at the same time you can’t write from a place of fear. You have to write from a place of confidence. My feelings about this movie are exactly the same as they were about the first movie, which are: we like it but we’re not entirely sure the fans are going to like it, or if the people who aren’t 40-year aficionados of ‘Trek’ are going to like it, or anyone is going to like it. If this movie is a complete and utter disaster, I would not be surprised. And if the movie makes a billion dollars, I would not be surprised. It’s just a big question mark.”

After each of the five (J.J. Abrams, Robert Orci, Alex Kurtzman, Bryan Burk and Lindelof) cleared their creative calendars to start work on the sequel, Lindelof says they got together to break (a TV writing term for finding the story as a group) the ideas they needed to continue from the first movie. Lindelof explains, “The first question we were facing, just on a plot level, is can there be a five-year mission when Vulcan blew up? How did that attack—which is essentially a 9/11-like incident in Federation lore—change history? That should be the catalyst for everything that happens in the second movie, so that was the conversation that happened when we initially made the decision to destroy Vulcan, because it’s a huge deal. The two key planets in the Federation are Vulcan and Earth, and now one of them is just gone, and it eradicated billions of lives, so we need to talk about that and understand what the ramifications are moving forward.” He continues, “Secondly, I think in the first series of meetings for the second movie, we knew what the first movie was, emotionally, and it was about these people getting to meet each other. It was a philosophical study of logic versus emotion, and ultimately landing on this idea that the two can’t be separate. They need each other, and those ideas are represented by Kirk and Spock.

“Star Trek Into Darkness” opens on May 17.

‘The Bible’ On The Big Screen Is The Week’s Biggest News

The Bible On The Big Screen Is The Weeks Biggest News

Nope, Mel Gibson‘s not involved. This one’s all Mark Burnett, the producer who’s partly to blame for giving Donald Trump his own show (“The Apprentice”), as well as Sarah Palin (“Sarah Palin’s Alaska”), and his wife Roma Downey of “Touched by an Angel” fame. They’re taking their 10-part TV miniseries for the History Channel and re-cutting it into a three-hour movie to be released this fall.

That means you’ll be able to enjoy the story of Jesus and his resurrection the way God truly intended: with your feet resting on a Mountain Dew-saturated floor while clutching a box of Goobers. Plus, while heading to church can be a hassle (c’mon Sunday is for football!), Burnett’s movie will give you a reasonable dose of the biblical for a measly $10-$14 “donation” to your nearest corporately operated, mass movie theater chain.

Then again, Burnett says they haven’t settled on a venue for their film yet. Might we suggest skipping the movie version all together and moving straight into the theme park phase of the series? It’d be like the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, but with a messiah focus.

There could even be a Hall of Biblical Hollywood, similar to the Hall of Presidents at Disney World. This area would feature all the past actors who’ve gotten down with Jerusalem for a movie role. There’s Jim Caviezel who was Jesus in “The Passion of the Christ” and Will Ferrell who took on the savior in “Superstar.” There’s also Patrick Dempsey who once played Jeremiah, Steve Carell who took on Noah, and a whole slew of celebrity Satans, like Elizabeth Hurley, Al Pacino, Jack Nicholson, Robert De Niro, and Christopher Walken.

Want to read the book version before seeing the movie? No not the actual Bible, silly! Burnett and Downey have also written a novel called “A Story of God and All of Us: A Novel Based on the Epic TV Miniseries ‘The Bible.’”

If this movie really takes off, maybe we’ll see religious flicks of all faiths popping up in the future. Fingers crossed for a sequel to John Travolta’s Scientology thriller “Battlefield Earth.” Or, what about a Torah flick with a hunky Moses?

Kim Kardashian Opens Up About Marrying Kanye West

Kim Kardashian Opens Up About Marrying Kanye West

By Henna Kathiya

The Kardashian family has had plenty of screen time with six years of being in front of reality TV cameras. The “Keeping Up With The Kardashians” franchise has given a lot of insight into their family life but they really got up close and personal during a recent interview with Ryan Seacrest where Kim opened up about the difficulties in her pregnancy as well as her future plans with Kanye.

With Kim’s due date coming up soon in July, Ryan asked Kim exactly what she’s feeling as an expectant mother. “It’s just really painful everywhere,” the 32-year-old said. “I’m in pain physically.” “I get really paranoid [and] I start Googling things, the things that come up are really scary. It just freaks me out all the time,” she added.

Kim admitted that she had a different view of what things were going to be like carrying Kanye’s baby. “I was waiting for this amazing experience where I can just do whatever I want, eat whatever I want, feel great, and it hasn’t been that way,” she said.

Although her pregnancy has been more difficult than expected, the mother-to-be lit up as soon as Ryan mentioned future plans of marrying Kanye. “I do think I would get married again,” Kim said. “I found out what I really wanted.” Even with Kanye being in Paris working on his next album, he has been very attentive to his pregnant beau- flying on private jets to make her doctor appointments according to sources via TMZ.

As for Kanye’s thoughts on the show- Kim revealed that he’s a fan of the show. “He loves the show and loves watching…He loves the whole experience.”

K. Michelle Lashes Out At Bossip During ‘Love & Hip Hop Atlanta’ Screening

By Sowmya Krishnamurthy

Don’t mess with K. Michelle. On Thursday night (April 18) night at the “Love & Hip Hop Atlanta” NYC premiere, K lashed out at an intern from gossip site Bossip.

Reportedly the site called the show an “EBT fest,” referring to the government’s welfare program, which K was not having. “Don’t never…I’m from the streets!” K yelled at the intern. “I’m not crazy, I’m the realest bitch you gonna see,” she continued and then threatened whomever wrote the blog post.

The crowd went wild as the tirade continued. “You represent a brand that destroys people,” lashed out K, as cast mate Stevie J stood up and applauded.

Bossip stood by its original assertion. On Twitter today, the site blasted K. Michelle for acting out and causing her own bad press. “We can’t report on something if YOU don’t do it. If you are on TV flapping your wings and laying eggs then we will be talking about you” adding, “That isn’t just for K, that’s for ANYONE! Don’t want bad press? Then conduct yourself accordingly…”. K threw in her two cents and called the ordeal “Very disrespectful 2me and the people there.”

On and off-camera, K had plenty of drama with her cast mates including fighting with Karlie Redd and her former boyfriend Memphitz, who K said was abusive towards her.

The new season of “Love & Hip Hop Atlanta” returns to VH1 on April 22nd at 8/7C.

The Return of Macaulay Culkin is the Week’s Biggest News

nikeflyknitlunar1voltblack02 The Return of Macaulay Culkin is the Weeks Biggest News

By Amelia Mularz

Singing “Kokomo,” arguing with the paparazzi, and brandishing fingernails painted in wild colors, Macaulay Caulkin has found his way back into our lives. And we’re so happy to have him here.

We haven’t seen him on the big screen since 2007′s “Sex and Breakfast,” which was a film about…er (awkwardly tugging on imaginary shirt collar). Okay fine, we missed that one. But according to IMDB, it was a sexy romp-of-a-flick with doc-prescribed couple swapping. Oh Thomas J!

Of course the Macaulay we all remember is the one who got left home alone (and later ditched in New York), the one who was friends with Vada Sultenfuss and had a horrible bee allergy, and the lil’ dude who was the richest kid in the world. In real life, he was friends with Michael Jackson and Bubbles the chimp. Those were the days…

Reports surfaced earlier this week about the “Home Alone” star singing the Beach Boys hit as part of a surprise performance with his buddy Adam Green in the U.K. He wore a ponytail and shades and announced, “I’ve come all the way from America!” Allegedly, he also went on a pap attack, screaming at a photographer while exiting the nightclub. This behavior, however, seems fully warranted. What else do you expect when you kill a guy’s vibe after singing “Kokomo?”

Word also came from across the pond that Culkin was mistaken for a “tramp” (which we believe is British speak for “hobo”) at some point last week. According to The Sun, a local college student says he saw the actor smoking a cigarette on a street corner in the wee hours of the morning and he could’ve easily mistaken Culkin for a homeless guy. In other news, an NYU student here in the U.S. may or may not have seen a bag lady that had a striking resemblance to Amanda Bynes.

About Culkin’s re-emergence, all we have to say is, it’s about time! Music and TV have already seen the return of their 90s stars. Every boy band from 98 Degrees to Hanson has resurfaced, and Doogie Howser has a new TV show. Now please, Macaulay, never leave us again.

Patton Oswalt’s ‘Star Wars’ Pitch From ‘Park & Rec’ Is Genius

Patton Oswalts Star Wars Pitch From Park & Rec Is Genius

King of the nerds Patton Oswalt has an upcoming guest spot on an episode of “Parks and Recreation” where he plays a Pawnee citizen who filibusters a city council meeting in order to hold up a piece of legislation.

The producers give Oswalt the freedom to talk about whatever he wanted during the extended speech, so he went with his heart and made a 9-minute pitch for J.J. Abrams’ “Star Wars: Episode VII.”

But it’s not that simple. As a hardcore sci-fi geek, Oswalt seized upon the opportunity to bring in characters from another recent Disney acquisition, the Marvel universe. How will Tony Stark and Thanos play into the continuation of the “Star Wars” saga? You’ll have to click past the jump to find out.

While Oswalt’s obviously not being serious about his pitch for “Star Wars: Episode VII,” you have to admire the angle from which he approached it. As one of Hollywood’s most in-demand script doctors, Oswalt knows a thing or two about film structure, and you can see that here, even if that involves a fake-out involving the X-Men, the Quinjet, and Dr. Reed Richards.

All jokes aside, there are some really good ideas here before it all spins out of control with time ribbons. We’re definitely in favor of Boba Fett climbing out of the sarlacc pit within the first 15 minutes, and Luke using Darth Vader‘s lightsaber as a reminder of his father’s sins is inspired writing.

The full episode of “Parks and Recreation” airs tonight on NBC, and you should watch it anyway because it’s the best sitcom on TV.
