‘Fast & Furious 6′ Peels Out Nine New Clips

Fast & Furious 6 Peels Out Nine New Clips

It always feels like overkill when a studio releases a large number of clips from a movie in anticipation of its impending release date, but that’s exactly what Universal Pictures has done with “Fast & Furious 6.” Fortunately this series has proved time and again that it doesn’t need a brilliant marketing strategy to get people in theaters.

All nine clips can be watched over at Coming Soon. Some show Vin Diesel‘s character Dom bringing the team back together to hunt down a new villain who might have a connection to the assumedly dead Letty, while others give us a taste of the badass character Gina Carano will bring to the film—she seems amazing. All in all, they’re pretty great teases for the new movie.

It’s no surprise that “Fast & Furious 6″ will be loaded with action, but what’s surprising here is just how few of these clips include any sort of car racing. That’s what the big action is supposed to be in the “Fast & Furious” franchise, right? Of course, Universal could just want to show off the many exciting actors here instead of giving away all the big stunt sequences, but we still expected more than two—admittedly awesome—race sequence among these nine clips. At least one of them does involve the tank, though.

These sneak peeks at least do show us some of the actors we’re most excited about seeing in this new movie. There’s Diesel and Paul Walker, Tyrese Gibson and Ludacris, Dwayne Johnson and Carano, Jordana Brewster and Michelle Rodriguez, and even one clip featuring Luke Evans‘ villain character Owen Shaw. Consider us on board with this new flick. “Fast & Furious 6″ comes out on May 24.

Scarlett Johansson Considers Kicking Ass In ‘Lucy’

Scarlett Johansson Considers Kicking Ass In Lucy

Luc Besson has found a new butt-kicking lady to lead his next film: Scarlett Johansson. The “Don Jon’s Addiction” actress is in final negotiations to play the main character in Besson’s next film, “Lucy.”

The action thriller is about a woman forced to become a mule for a drug that ends up transforming her into someone with superhuman powers, The Hollywood Reporter explains. According to the site, the female character can “absorb knowledge instantaneously, is able to move objects with her mind and can’t feel pain and other discomforts.”

Though this isn’t a done deal, Johansson is definitely someone we’d love to see work with Besson. She’s proved she’s got the stuff of an action hero thanks to “Iron Man 2″ and “The Avengers,” and he showed us all how great his heroines can be in “The Fifth Element,” so they definitely would work well together. Plus Besson is great with action tales in general, and we’d love to see him work the same magic for Johansson that he did for Liam Neeson in “Taken.”

Besson both wrote the script and will direct “Lucy.” If Johansson takes the gig, she will film “Lucy” after she’s done with “Captain America: The Winter Soldier.” No word yet on when the movie will hit theaters, but it will be distributed by Universal Pictures.

‘The Bourne Legacy’ Is Getting A Sequel At Some Point

The Bourne Legacy Is Getting A Sequel At Some Point

The “Bourne” franchise’s sideways sequel is going to be getting its own sequel.

Universal Pictures has been rolling out big announcements at CinemaCon, but the one that’s got us most intrigued is that a “The Bourne Legacy 2″ is in the works. The fate of that movie seemed uncertain since “The Bourne Legacy” performed just average in the box office, and did the worst of all four “Bourne” films. But Universal claims it is “actively working” on a second “Bourne Legacy” film, even though the studio didn’t get any more specific than that.

For those of you hoping for a “Bourne” storyline crossover, we have some bad news for you, because Matt Damon probably won’t be in this movie. The former “Bourne” actor has said repeatedly that he won’t do another movie in the franchise without “Bourne Supremacy” and “Bourne Ultimatum” director Paul Greengrass, and also has been increasingly hesitant about the direction the series is going. It seems likely that the next “Bourne Legacy” movie will just star Jeremy Renner, with a potential Renner-Damon team-up happening farther down the road.

“The Bourne Legacy 2″ wasn’t the only big sequel Universal announced. The studio also confirmed that “Fast & Furious 7″ will come out in 2014 and “Snow White and the Huntsman 2″ and “Pitch Perfect 2″ will hit theaters in 2015. Yes, we’re pretty excited about those too.

Liam Hemsworth Rumored For Lead In Sci-Fi Thriller ‘The Raven’

liam hemsworth Liam Hemsworth Rumored For Lead In Sci Fi Thriller The Raven

Liam Hemsworth is reportedly close to taking the lead role in Ricardo de Montreuil’s new film, “The Raven.” The movie is based on de Montreuil’s short of the same name, and is being set up at Universal Pictures.

Deadline has the news and said Universal won’t confirm their report. Still, Hemsworth is allegedly considering playing the main character in the science fiction film. It’s unclear if his character would be the same as the one that is featured in de Montreuil’s award-winning 2010 short of it he would play someone different.

“The Raven” is described as a “sci-fi conspiracy thriller, set in the near future.” It’s clear from the short, which can be watched below, that this future involves robots of some sort and humans with superhuman powers. Michael Gilio and Justin Marks wrote the feature film’s script, and production is expected to start in June.

Hemsworth is best known for playing Gale in “The Hunger Games” series, so it would be nice to see him venture into straight sci-fi in a movie like this. He already proved he could be an action hero in “The Expendables 2.”

In March 2012, it was rumored that de Montreuil would direct the upcoming movie “Zorro Reborn,” but this “The Raven” news seems to shut that story down. Not that we’re complaining, as “The Raven” is a much more promising premise than a rehash of “Zorro.”

‘Fast & The Furious 6′ TV Spot Hits The Movie’s High Notes

Fast & The Furious 6 TV Spot Hits The Movies High Notes

Want a Sparknotes version of the excitement coming in the new “Fast and the Furious” movie, “Fast & Furious 6“? Well, you##Q##re in luck, because the latest TV spot released by Universal Pictures features all the high points from the movie.

There will be explosions. And a tank. And a crashing plane. And a partnership between Dom and Hobbs. And the return of Michelle Rodriguez. Oh, and there looks like there will be some awesome driving scenes along the way. Like we said, this 30-second teaser summarizes all we need to know about the movie to be interested in it in half a minute.

Still, these are the same plot points that have been teased repeatedly throughout “Fast & Furious 6##Q##s” marketing campaign. Our hope is that there are a few more layers of the movie that have yet to be seen. This TV spot might feature everything that is needed to get audiences in theaters — and that Rodriguez kicker at the end gets us every time — but this won##Q##t be as fun a movie as we hope it will be if we already know it beat for beat.

A recent featurette teased Rodriguez##Q## return as Letty, and Diesel revealed that this movie acts as an origin story for that character. Rodriguez added, “She is on the wrong side of the tracks. She got mixed up with a crew of people in Europe that are doing heists and they##Q##re pretty hardcore.”

“Fast & Furious 6″ will hit theaters on May 24.

New ‘Fast & Furious 6′ Image: That Plane Won’t Go Very Far

New Fast & Furious 6 Image: That Plane Wont Go Very Far

After initially teasing us with “Fast & Furious 6″ set photos, Universal Pictures is teasing us with official stillsfrom the movie. The latest features Paul Walker and Jordana Brewster as Brian and Mia, and they don’t look to happy about whatever situation they’re in.

“Tension is high with Brian and Mia. What do you think they have in store in #Fast6?” the official “Fast & Furious 6″ Twitter account posted along with the picture.

If we were to guess, we would say this picture takes around the time of the plane crash we saw in the “Fast & Furious 6″ Super Bowl spot. But, as we saw in the full trailer, that’s just the tip of the iceberg for Dom’s crew. All roads — be they by train, plane or automobile — lead to this action-packed movie, it seems.

“Fast & Furious 6″ comes out on May 24, but don’t expect that to be the end of the “Fast and the Furious” franchise. No, plans are already in the works for “Fast 7,” and apparently the last scene in this movie will tie directly into its sequel.

‘Spy Hunter’ Might Finally, Finally Get Made

Spy Hunter Might Finally, Finally Get Made

Is the long-anticipated “Spy Hunter” video game adaptation finally going to move into development? It seems like after virtually everyone in Hollywood has a hand in the movie, it’s going to be moving forward again.

Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros. is moving “full speed” on the flick now that the studio has signed Carter Blanchard to write the script.

The good news is that Ruben Fleischer is still slated to direct this flick. He just helmed “Gangster Squad” for Warner Bros., and it seems like this could be the next project on his slate. Fingers crossed he sticks with this, since “Spy Hunter” definitely doesn’t need another director leaving it in the dust.

Spy Hunter‘s” story started back in 2003 when Universal Pictures picked up the rights to the 1983 arcade game. Dwayne Johnson was originally supposed to star, but Universal spent a while hiring writers to try to pen the project. John Woo was finally brought on to direct it in 2004, but Universal kept swapping screenwriters: Michael Brandt and Derek Haas were replaced by Mark Swift and Damian Shannon, who were then replaced by Zak Penn who was then replaced by Stuart Beattie.

Woo eventually left the project and so did Johnson, but it seemed like there was forward momentum again when Paul W.S. Anderson was hired to direct “Spy Hunter” in 2007. That didn’t last long, and a new script was written by Chad St. John in 2010. It was at that point that Fleischer came on board. Though it’s been almost three years since all that went down, hopefully “Spy Hunter” actually makes its way to the big screen this time.

Another ‘How The Grinch Stole Christmas’ In Development For Some Reason

Another How The Grinch Stole Christmas In Development For Some Reason

Is nothing sacred? It doesn’t seem like it, as “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” one of the best animated Christmas movies around, is reportedly getting remade.

Variety is reporting that Universal Pictures, Illumination Entertainment and Dr. Seuss’ widow Audrey Geisel are working together to reboot the classic Seuss story. In 1966, Chuck Jones made a version of the tale that has definitely lasted the test of time, and then Jim Carrey starred in a live-action version from Universal called “The Grinch” in 2000.

Apparently two attempts isn’t enough, and nothing can just be left alone. It’s worth noting that there are plenty of other Seuss tales to cull from (“Hop on Pop,” anyone?), but for some reason this seems to be the one that is being brought to the big screen. Illumination is also working on an animated adaptation of “Cat in the Hat.”

Chris Meledandri, man behind “Horton Hears A Who” and “The Lorax,” is producing the project, while Pete Candeland set to direct. To give this version of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” a fresh take, they’re reportedly going to be focusing on the differences between Cindy Lou Who‘s optimistic attitude and the Grinch’s pessimistic attitude. The plan is also to make this a resounding hit in foreign territories.

Let’s make this clear yet again: We don’t need a new take on “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” At all. There are so many other stories out there to tell — even those in Seuss’ library — that there’s no reason to redo this one. Let the Jones classic remain a classic, even though it’s nearly 50 years old, and for goodness sake spend some time giving us something new.

‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’: Screenwriter’s Five Biggest Challenges

Will screenwriter Kelly Marcel be any match for Christian Grey and his Red Room of Pain? That’s the question on fans’ lips following the Monday (October 8) announcement from Universal Pictures and Focus Features that the “Terra Nova” creator will adapt E L James’ best-seller for the big screen.

Producers Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti were won over by Marcel’s story-telling strengths, saying in a statement, “Kelly’s work demonstrates her flawless structural technique and passionate commitment to emotion, humor and depth of character which is particularly visible in the celebrated screenplay for the upcoming ‘Saving Mr. Banks.’ “

Yet, as skilled as Marcel may be, she will have to overcome a number of obstacles in order to bring lovers Christian and Ana to life (the least of which will be weathering Bret Easton Ellis’ wrath). Let’s look at the five challenges Marcel faces:

The Sex
Don’t pretend you weren’t thinking about it! It’s erotic fiction, after all, but the last thing the producers want is a pornographic film. Marcel will no doubt have to collaborate closely with the yet-to-be-selected director in order to find the sweet spot between silly smut and sound story-telling. After all, audiences will only tolerate so many instances of fade to black…

The Plot
Boiled down to its basics, the main conflict in “Fifty Shades of Grey” is whether or not Ana will sign the submissive contract Christian places before her. That’s not a lot of story to pin an entire screenplay on. The tenuous plot works mostly in James’ novel because, well, all that sex is rather distracting. But it sounds as though producers want to craft a meaty narrative, not relying on all that kink-ery as a crutch. It will be tantamount for Marcel (likely in collaboration with James) to bring a bit more story-telling savvy to the script.

The Emails
Christian and Ana are at their most vulnerable not while rolling around in the sheets but when exchanging multiple back-and-forth emails throughout their work days. The relationship development that occurs through these surprisingly open and honest missives cannot be chopped without, in turn, cutting out much of this story’s heart. That being said, who wants to sit through 20 minutes of email recitations? Marcel will need to puzzle out these exchanges without producing another Google Chrome commercial.

The Antihero
Christian Grey is, without question, one of the most damaged love interests in recent literary history. Abused as a child, his earlier traumas have left him cold, menacing and sadistic. Yet, somehow millions of readers have fallen in love with the brash billionaire. Whether that same adoration attaches to the big-screen iteration will depend on two things: Marcel crafting a redeeming character and the chosen actor transcending the vile and become the victorious.

The Audience
This is probably more of a wish than an obstacle, but wouldn’t it be nice if the film appealed to both men and women, despite the novel’s reputation as “mommy porn”? We have a feeling the adaptation will be a success regardless (mark our words), but here’s to a titillating tale we can all enjoy.

‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’ Taps Screenwriter

Christian Grey isn’t the only one drafting up contracts.

Universal Pictures and Focus Features announced Monday (October 8) that producers Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti have tapped “Terra Nova” scribe Kelly Marcel to pen the big-screen adaptation of E L James’ best-selling erotic novel “Fifty Shades of Grey.”

“Kelly’s work demonstrates her flawless structural technique and passionate commitment to emotion, humor and depth of character which is particularly visible in the celebrated screenplay for the upcoming ‘Saving Mr. Banks,’ ” De Luca said in a statement.

“We were all taken with the depth and passion of Kelley’s [sic] engagement with the characters and world E L James has created and we knew she was the right person to augment our ‘Fifty Shades‘ family,” Brunetti added.

Speculation has run rampant as to which screenwriter would tackle the oft-fraught relationship between billionaire Christian Grey and his naive lover Anastasia Steele. “American Psycho” author Bret Easton Ellis had long campaigned for the job via Twitter, finally telling fans in August that he had been passed over for the gig.

With producers and a screenwriter now fastened in (so to speak), the next task will likely be securing a director. Rumors circulated earlier this year that Angelina Jolie had met with the studio, though that report was quickly debunked.

Of course, the most hotly debated topic is which actor and actress will sign on to enter Christian’s Red Room of Pain, with names like Alexander SkarsgÃ¥rd and Ian Somerhalder favored for Christian, while fans have clamored for Nina Dobrev and Lucy Hale (among others) for Ana.

The “Fifty Shades of Grey” trilogy has sold more than 32 million copies in e-book and print.

What do you think of Kelly Marcel penning the “Fifty Shades of Grey” script? Who would you like to play Christian and Ana?
