‘Vampire Diaries,’ Look Out: ‘League’ And ‘Sunny’ Stars Are After You!

The 2012 fall TV slate is so full of great, can’t-miss programming that it’s often difficult to plan your at-home viewing schedule to maximize your free time and DVR space.

Take Thursday night’s (October 11) action-packed lineup of season premieres, for example: New episodes of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia,” “The League” and “The Vampire Diaries” are all coming your way. What’s a responsible TV watcher to do with so many great shows to watch and so little recording space?

MTV News was lucky enough to attend the premiere of the FX comedies recently, and we posed this critical question to both casts. Unsurprisingly, they imparted some very thoughtful wisdom on the subject.

“I know a lot of people who watch MTV love ‘The Vampire Diaries.’ Me too,” “League” star Paul Scheer said. “I worked with Steven McQueen on ‘Piranha 3D’ — we go way back, acting-wise — but I’m going to tell all the fans of ‘Vampire Diaries‘ right now: You gotta watch ‘The League’ because we are all vampires; we just don’t talk about it. We don’t make a big deal out of it. ‘Vampire Diaries‘ [stars] are telling everybody, ‘We’re secret vampires. We’re killing people left and right, you just don’t see it.’ We’re not bragging, basically.”

The CW soap found a sympathetic supporter in “Sunny” star Charlie Day.

“I don’t want to deprive anyone of their vampires. There’s not enough vampire material out there, so please, DVR that vampire stuff, because it’s important stuff,” he said. “It’s the human condition. It lets us know about ourselves. But it’s not all teeth and fangs and abs.”

Day’s “Sunny” co-stars Rob McElhenney and Glenn Howerton touted their show’s re-watch-ability as their top selling point, despite not being totally clear about the current story line on “Vampire Diaries.”

“I think you probably only watch that once and you watch our show multiple times,” Howerton said. “Right? Or you don’t watch that at all, and you only watch ours.”

“How many vampires can we have on television?” McElhenney asked rhetorically.

“But these guys have a diary, so it’s more accurate to what actually happened,” Howerton guessed.

“Is it like Anne Frank?” McElhenney asked.

“I don’t know who that is,” Howerton deadpanned. “Did she die in a car crash or something?”

Finally, leave it to “League” star Nick Kroll to get down and dirty (and violent) with the debate.

“I like them, but I’ll still fight them. Look at them: None of them are eating, even the men,” Kroll said. “There are no carbs in their diet. I will sit on them. I will sit on all the ‘Vampire Diaries‘ [stars], and they can bite my tush and try to suck the blood out, but I will still suffocate them before the evening is out.

Vampire Diaries, I’ll f—ing wreck you,” he added with joking intensity. “The dude with the jaw, the girls — I’ll take you all down.”

‘Jersey Shore’ Celebrity Fans Share Their Top Moments!

We can hardly believe that today (October 4) marks the beginning of the end of “Jersey Shore” — well, the beginning of its final season on MTV, that is. We have no doubt that the unforgettable castmembers will continue to make their mark on pop culture long after the last cab arrives to take them all home.

In celebration of the sixth season premiere tonight, MTV News asked a few celebrities to weigh in on the series’ most epic moments and reveal their favorite castmembers.

“[I like] The Situation, because he’s just so full of himself,” said actor/singer Asher Monroe. “They’re all characters. They make the show. If it was anybody else, it wouldn’t be as hilarious.”

“JWoww is my favorite,” admitted “Vampire Diaries” star Kat Graham. “She can beat a boy’s ass. I like that. Boys need a good ass-whoopin’ sometimes.”

We then brought up the subject of the infamous “smush room,” which turned out to be very unfamiliar for several celebs like “Guy Code” star April Rose.

“The smush room? What’s that?” Rose asked, after also being taken aback by learning that one of the castmembers called himself The Situation. “There’s The Situation, how scary is that? I think I’d be scared to be in a room with him. The Smush Room with The Situation? What am I supposed to do?” she wondered. We’re sure Mike could make some suggestions!

Finally, we asked celebs to recall the most unforgettable or outrageous moments during the past five seasons, not all of which were pleasant ones, as we learned from “Extra” host and “Dancing With the Stars” alum Maria Menounos.

“I remember The Situation leaving a girl in bed and going and cooking a steak dinner,” Menounos recalled with an unpleasant expression on her face. “Not just microwaving mac and cheese; cooking a steak dinner and eating it as slow as he wanted, then go back to have his fun and then be like, ‘Baby, I love you, but the cab is outside.’ I would kill myself!” she said.

“Well, Ronnie is always getting in fights, and I always liked to see him just randomly pick fights with people on the boardwalk,” Monroe added of his favorite “Shore” moment. “But I like how sensitive he gets when the [housemates] get on him and he gets emotional. Or when he and [Situation] got into a fight and he had to wear the brace.”

Don’t miss the final season of “Jersey Shore,” premiering tonight at 10 p.m. ET on MTV. For more “Shore” coverage, head to MTV‘s Remote Control blog.

Usher, More iHeartRadio Stars Recall Their First Time … On The Radio

There’s something sweet and sentimental about the old adage that you never forget your major firsts in life — first love, first kiss, first job, etc. That rings especially true when speaking to musicians about the first time they heard a song of theirs played on the radio.

When MTV News headed out to Las Vegas recently for the star-studded iHeartRadio music festival, which will be broadcast Monday night (October 1) on the CW, we asked a few of the show’s headliners to tell us about the first time they heard their jam played on the airwaves.

“The first time I ever heard my song on the radio, I thought I was dreaming, but I was wide awake,” Usher said. “I was in Chattanooga, Tennessee. I turned, and I heard my song.”

“I was stunned,” Gavin DeGraw said of the first time he heard his song “Follow Through.” “I was in the car with a friend and an old song was playing. I was like, ‘I love this song!’ and that song ended and my song came on next. I went, ‘What?’ and got real quiet and said to my friend, ‘Hey, can you turn that up please?’ and I went nuts.”

Vampire Diaries” double threat Kat Graham didn’t believe what she was hearing at first. “I thought I was playing my own CD,” she explained. “I thought that I was maybe accidentally playing my iPod, and then I realized that I was on the radio, and that’s a crazy experience. Once it’s done, you text everyone you know.”

“I was driving in the car with my mom the first time I heard my song on the radio,” country star Miranda Lambert recalled. “It’s a pull-over-your-car, get-out-and-jump-around moment, something that you dream of when you’re a little girl and you want to be an artist. And that feeling doesn’t go away,” she said. “I’m still excited when I hear myself on the radio.”

The Jonas Brothers also caught themselves on air while on the road. “We were in Cape Cod [Massachusetts], of all places,” Nick Jonas said. “We had a show at the Melody Tent, and after soundcheck, we took a few minutes to go to the beach, and on our way to the beach, we heard the song on the radio, which was pretty exciting for us.”

Grammy winner Ne-Yo might win the award out of this group for most enthusiastic reaction to hearing himself on the radio for the first time, despite the fact that he put himself in danger.

“I was in Los Angeles, California, on the 405 freeway, and anybody that’s watching who knows the 405, you sit still for about two hours on that freeway,” he said. “So I’m stuck in traffic, my song comes on, I jump out of my car and run down the freeway knocking on people’s windows. I don’t remember the station, but I said, ‘Turn it on, turn it on, that’s me!’ I wouldn’t recommend that, because you could die, so I don’t recommend that.”

‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’ Author E L James Knows Who She Wants In Film

With all the hype and anticipation around who will play Christian Grey and Ana Steele when “Fifty Shades of Grey” hits the big screen, the woman behind the phenomenon, E L James, put her two cents in on who should play the roles.

“It’s a sort of collaborative effort. There’s a studio. There’s a production company. There’s two producers and at some point there’s going to be a director, so I’m sure everyone will have an input into that. I have three people who could play Christian,” she told Katie Couric on her talk show on Monday. “And I think four who could play Ana, and I’m not going to tell you any of them.”

No word on whether Justin Bieber is in the running. The singer recently made headlines when he joked on a U.K. talk show, “The Jonathan Ross Show,” that he was in talks to star in the film. While he may not actually be a contender to play billionaire playboy Christian, a number of other folks have been, including “Vampire Diaries” star Ian Somerhalder and most recently “The Canyons” actor (and adult film star) James Deen.

In addition to looking ahead to the in-the-works film, James also shared on Couric’s talks how that she might revisit the “Fifty Shades” story in the future, this time with more from the Christian POV. “Maybe. I actually hold Random House responsible for this, because they made me change from ‘Outtakes’ to ‘Shades of Christian’. I just put it in there as an outtake. He’s a very interesting headspace to be in, so maybe, but I’d like to try and write something else, and then maybe revisit him. He’s really hard work,” she laughed.

Production on “Fifty Shades” has been moving along all summer. “The Social Network” producers Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti were recruited to produce the film. Casting for the film’s leads has been heavily discussed with no real confirmation of who might tackle the kinky parts for the big screen. For a time Angelina Jolie was rumored to be a contender to direct, but that turned out to be nothing more than Internet fodder.

Nina Dobrev Doesn’t Want ‘Vampire Diaries’ To Be ‘Dragged Out’

The fourth season of the “Vampire Diaries” is set to kick off in October, and from the looks of it, it might be the biggest season yet.

The upcoming season finds Elena (Nina Dobrev) transitioning into a vampire, whether she actually wants to or not.

And while that will make for one very compelling story line, Dobrev told MTV News that if the writing for the show doesn’t hold up to those high standards, she doesn’t want it to continue on just for the sake of continuing.

“I always like it when a show ends on a good note. I don’t like anything to be dragged out past the point of quality ’cause I think you can only tell a story so long until it gets watered down,” she explained at the Toronto International Film Festival. “And I think every show that I’ve enjoyed has made it to the sixth season and put a conclusion to it.”

But, fans of the supernatural hit CW soap shouldn’t worry: No expiration date stamped on it just yet. She added, “But, I don’t know. We’ll see. It all depends on the story.”

Well, for now, fans can focus on not only Elena’s transition, but also her choice to be with Stefan (Paul Wesley), after her brief fling with his bad-boy brother, Damon (played by her real-life boyfriend Ian Somerhalder).

“I understand why she made the decision,” she told MTV News earlier this year. “I respect her decision, and I think, having seen the last three years, what’s happened in her life, everyone will also. They may not be happy, half the people will not be happy regardless, but they’ll get it, and it’s her decision at the end of the day.”

Lady Gaga’s Best Little Monsters Photos … So Far

Sure, Lady Gaga‘s fans have taken to her social-networking site, LittleMonsters.com, and made it a place to connect and even post wacky, cool pics of the singer. They’ve even imagined her as unicorns (including this one and this one).

But it’s also become a place where Gaga herself has become even more connected with devoted fans.

Since launching the site in July, it has become a site where the Mother Monster not only unveils her latest projects, but also gives fans a behind-the-scenes peek at her life.

She’s already made several major announcements on the site, including her role in “Machete Kills”, her artwork for her Fame fragrance, of course, the title of her next album, ARTPOP. Heck, she’s also written some poems about it.

In between those career moments, there have also been several more candid and sometimes earnest snapshots that have showed other sides of Gaga. MTV News is rounding up some of the sweetest, most expected and most Gaga photos that she has posted on the site thus far.

The singer went “au natural” in one shot she posted on the site. Wearing no makeup and no wigs, she shows off what she looks like without all the pomp and circumstance. Why did she get so real? Well, she wrote, “i feel at home on littlemonsters.com.”

Things got even more real several photos later. Gaga bared it all in a nude photo of herself taken after her pop-up shop opening at Barney’s in New York City last November. In the photo, Gaga appears in her birthday suit, but all curled up so that nothing is exposed. The caption is as simple as what Gaga is wearing in the photo. It reads, “Resting after BARNEY’S GAGA WORKSHOP OPENING IN NY.”

Gaga lets fans into her slumber party with Lindsay Lohan on the site, posting a series of snapshots of and with the starlet, as well as celebrity photographer, Ellen Von Unwerth. “WE WOKE UP ON THE FLOOR, OF SUITE 64,” she said of the get-together at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles.

She not only let fans into her friendship with LaLohan, but also into her relationship with former “Vampire Diaries” actor Taylor Kinney. She posted a photo of herself naked in a pool with him, with the most understated of captions, “T and Me.”

Fans got to see what Gaga looked like as a baby Stefani Germanotta in a family photo she posted. In the photo, an infant Gaga is seen in her godfather’s arms. She posted the snapshot after his passing, writing, “My godfather died yesterday, sweet man I love him. That’s me, just a lil baby in his arms. Buono note.”

Emma Roberts Thinks ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’ Role ‘Sounds Awesome’

It seems that every young starlet in Hollywood has been mentioned for the role of Anastasia Steele in the upcoming film adaptation of E L James’ hit erotic trilogy, “Fifty Shades of Grey.” Many fans have opinions as to who they feel will be a perfect fit to play the naive, love-stricken character, whose story began as “Twilight” fan fiction.

Fan favorite Kristen Stewart, who we know has read at least part of the book, is certainly topping the list for some fan sites, while Nina Dobrev may pass on the opportunity to play the role if her “Vampire Diaries” co-star Ian Somerhalder lands the part of Christian Grey.

Most recently, Selena Gomez decided to take herself out of the race, calling the role “a little too much” for her and saying that someone a bit older should take it on.

Could that older someone be Emma Roberts?

MTV News caught up with Roberts at Seventeen magazine’s Pretty Amazing Contest event in New York, and it seems that the young star might be putting herself into the competition for the role. There’s just one problem: She still has to read the book.

“Everyone says read ‘Fifty Shades of Grey.’ I don’t really understand,” Roberts said. “But everyone on the plane was reading it, and I was like, ‘I should probably just get it.’ “

Roberts may be perfect to take on the part of Ana, since, at 21, she is around the same age and already has the dark hair to match. But would she be willing to do those steamy love scenes?

“I haven’t read it, I don’t even understand, but yeah, it sounds awesome. Anything racy, hot,” Roberts said. “Sure, let’s get hot.”

Ian Somerhalder Says ‘Fifty Shades Of Grey’ Role Would Be ‘Amazing’

Now that “The Vampire Diaries” has wrapped its third season, Ian Somerhalder will now have some time to fill, and if fans of “Fifty Shades of Grey” have their way, he’ll step into the role of Christian Grey.

For weeks, fans have been voicing their opinions on who should play the billionaire tycoon in the film adaptation of the hit erotic trilogy penned by E L James. Robert Pattinson‘s name has been in the mix, as well as Ryan Gosling, but it seems that most vans are gravitating toward the “Vampire Diaries” star to take on this dark and dynamic character.

MTV News caught up with Somerhalder at the CW Upfronts in New York City on Thursday (May 17) and he revealed that playing the role of Damon in the “Vampire Diaries” has been perfect training to get him ready to portray Christian Grey.

“I think it would be an amazing thing,” Somerhalder said of the possibility of getting the role. “One interesting thing is, by the virtue of playing Damon for now a few years, [he's] 170 plus years old, in love with an 18 year old, I officially have a lot of experience seducing younger women. I’m not saying, I’m just saying.”

Fifty Shades of Grey” revolves around Christian Grey‘s relationship with young college graduate Anastasia Steele as the two develop not only a strong emotional relationship, but a much-talked-about sexual relationship. The scenes are so hot that at times it has left readers, and even Somerhalder a little flushed.

“A little bit, yeah, there’s blushing,” Somerhalder said of some of the SM scenes.

We are sure fans would agree that Somerhalder could easily pull it off, but his support isn’t just coming from the “Fifty Shades” fans, it is also coming from his “Vampire Diaries” co-stars.

“I know he’s campaigning, I love it,” Candice Accola said of Somerhalder expressing his interest for the role. “I mean, the whole thing is like Adonis, sexy and he fits that bill pretty well.”

Kat Graham agrees, “Ian’s an amazing actor, he’s extremely dedicated to his craft and he’s also very good to the fans,” Graham told MTV News at the annual Wango Tango concert. “They’d be lucky to have him.”

Do you think Ian Somerhalder would make the perfect Christian Grey? Let us know in the comments.

Jay-Z Co-Signs Obama’s Progressive Stance On Gay Marriage

fe9c4 jayphilly Jay Z Co Signs Obamas Progressive Stance On Gay Marriage

By Jocelyn Vena

Jay-Z continued his longtime support of President Obama this week during a press conference in Philadelphia, where he co-signed the POTUSprogressive stance on gay marriage laws in the U.S.

“I’ve always thought it as something that was still holding the country back,” Jay-Z told CNN in Philadelphia, where he announced the launch of the Made in America festival. “What people do in their own homes is their business, and you can choose to love whoever you love. That’s their business. It’s no different than discriminating against blacks. It’s discrimination, plain and simple.”

Asked whether the declaration would cost Obama votes among religious African-Americans in his re-election bid, Hov said, “It’s really not about votes. It’s about people,” adding, “I think it’s the right thing to do as a human being.”

Jay is hardly the first celebrity to come out in support of Obama’s comments. Everyone from “Jersey Shore” stars Snooki and JWoww to“Vampire Diaries” actress Nina Dobrev and boy banders the Wanted have all backed Obama.

“It was definitely happy news, but I almost don’t want to applaud him too much, because I wish he would have done this a long time ago,” Perez Hilton told MTV News. “Having said that, it’s better that he did it than not. He could have waited until after the election. However, it’s clearly a calculated move in that he felt confident that this won’t hurt his chances at getting re-elected, and that’s why he did it.”
