Chief Keef Joins Gucci Mane On Brick Squad: Is It A Good Move?

Chief Keef Joins Gucci Mane On Brick Squad: Is It A Good Move?

By Sowmya Krishnamurthy

This week, Gucci Mane added Chief Keef to his Brick Squad roster. On Wednesday (May 8) the Atlanta rapper announced his new comrade in a tweet , “Chief Keef newest member of Bricksquad 1017 bmg gbe mpa. Keef responded by posting Gucci’s photo on his Instagram account with “#WhatTimeItIs?1017.” The “I Don’t Like” rapper is currently signed to Interscope Records via his own label Glory Boyz Entertainment, while Gucci is signed to Warner Bros, so the details of the new partnership are still vague.

This pan-regional alliance could potentially prove positive for Keef, as Gucci is far more established as an artist. Aside from a slew of albums, Gucci even appeared on the big screen in “Spring Breakers” this year. If anyone can introduce Keef to “Spring Breakers” cast mates James Franco and Selena Gomez, and introduce him to Hollywood, it’s Gucci. Furthermore, now that Gucci has severed ties with his other protege, Waka Flocka Flame, he can focus his efforts solely on promoting Keef musically and beyond.

On the other hand, both Keef and Gucci have been riddled with legal issues as of late, which could be worsened if they work together. Gucci recently spent time behind bars, following an arrest for allegedly assaulting a fan. A U.S. Army soldier claimed Gucci hit him on the head with a champagne bottle when he approached him at a nightclub. Gucci turned himself in after a warrant was issued for his arrest. Waka had some choice words about the situation. “I greet fans; he punches fans. It’s a difference,” he said during an appearance on “RapFix Live.”

Keef is no stranger to legal strife either. Earlier this year, the young rapper was put in a juvenile detention center after a probation violation for brandishing a gun. The 90-day sentence stemmed from Finally Rich rapper showing off a firearm during an interview. He was under probation for pointing a gun at a police officer prior. Even after release, Keef has not been able to put the firearms down and he loves to show off his steel on social media of all places.

Late last month, Keef was seen on Instagram flexing three iPhones and a very big gun. Days earlier, he was pointing guns at fans on Instagram during a trip to Paris.

Bad behavior influences more bad behavior, which neither needs right now given his legal standing. Their respective probations could be revoked or even worse. Either way, not a good look. We’ll just have to hope for the best and wait and see how this new partnership fares.

Do you think the GBE/Brick Squad alliance will help or hurt Gucci and Keef’s careers?

Gucci Mane And Young Scooter Are Cellmates In DeKalb County Jail?

By Rob Markman

There may be a Free Bricks reunion going on in DeKalb County Jail. Both Gucci Mane and Young Scooter are currently being housed in the Georgia lock-up, but RapFix has learned that the two collaborators are actual cellmates.

Gucci was booked on April 12 on a probation violation. The arrest came right after he was indicted on aggravated assault charges and freed on a $75,000 bond, which came after a U.S. army soldier accused the rapper of hitting him the head with a champagne bottle. Young Scooter, Gucci’s Free Bricks 2 mixtape partner-in-rhyme, was booked on a few days earlier on April 8 and also charged with a probation violation. Now a source with connections to both artists tells us that the two rappers aren’t just in the same jail, but they are currently living in the same cell.

Back in February, the duo dropped the 16-track Free Bricks 2 (The first Free Bricks tape was a collaboration between Gucci and Future). The Sequel featured Waka Flocka Flame, Wale and production from Zaytoven, Sonny Digital, Mike WiLL Made It and Drumma Boy. Who knows maybe they’ll complete the trilogy.

Do you believe that Gucci Mane and Young Scooter are coincidentally locked the same cell?

Waka Flocka Has Never Even Met Selena Gomez

After addressing that whole public fallout with Gucci Mane, Waka Flocka Flame used his visit to “RapFix Live” to set one thing straight: He##Q##s not dating Selena Gomez, and he actually hasn##Q##t even met her. Read the full story at MTV News or hear Waka##Q##s explanation above.

What Does Gucci Mane And Waka Flocka’s Rift Mean For Brick Squad?

(Waka says he##Q##ll ##Q##never ever##Q## work with Gucci again)

By Nadeska Alexis with reporting by Sway Calloway

After sending a blunt tweet a couple of weeks ago, proclaiming that Waka Flocka Flame had been dropped from Brick Squad 1017, a rep for Gucci Mane tried to do damage control by claiming that Guwop##Q##s Twitter account had been hacked, but during his visit to “RapFix Live” on Wednesday, Waka said there was definitely no hacking and that his professional relationship with Gucci was completely over.

“Nah, that Twitter wasn##Q##t hacked because we had a conversation before that. Real aggressive words like, ##Q##N—a let##Q##s get up, let##Q##s do this,##Q##” Waka explained when asked about the tweet, going on to say that he still doesn##Q##t know exactly why Gucci called him “disloyal.”

“I don##Q##t know. Honest to God truth, I don##Q##t know because I##Q##m the loyalist person you could ever see. I took on a man##Q##s beef, risked my life, hung out the window, risked my freedom. I never backed in a corner,” he said,of sticking behind Gucci during his squabbles with Young Jeezy. “To my knowledge, it can##Q##t be nothing but jealously or something because there is nothing I did disloyal.”

What’s Up With Gucci Mane? Assault Charges, Twitter Beef And More

In terms of the label situation, Waka noted that although he##Q##s under Gucci##Q##s Brick Squad 1017, he also owns a portion of the label and has control over Brick Squad Monopoly, which means that he technically can##Q##t be booted. “I won a percentage of Brick Squad 1017 and I own 100% of Brick Squad Monopoly, so you can##Q##t kick the boss out,” he said.

Even though they##Q##ll likely have to hash some details out, Waka said that his relationship with Gucci would never cross into music or money ever again. It ain##Q##t gonna never be no business, ever in life. No music or nothing,” he said. “I don##Q##t feel nothing he say out his mouth. It ain##Q##t real.”

Gucci Mane has had a crazy couple of weeks from name changes and assault allegations to movie cameos and possible Twitter hijacks. We revisit a timeline of some of his most memorable March moments.

Name Change: March 4, 2013

Gucci Mane is now Guwop? Early this month, Gucci took to Twitter to announce that his stage name was going to be retired this summer. “July 2nd I##Q##m officially changing my rap name to Guwop and retiring the great GucciMane,” he wrote. “Thanks Fans, for 8 years as Gucci now it##Q##s Wop turn.” Fans were not into the idea and about 30 minutes later, Gucci rescinded his statement. “I am officially NOT changing my name to Guwop it will officially stay Gucci Mane due to my Fans##Q## response.. Trap House 3 & Juug House July 2″ and then added, “Ya##Q##ll Hell … Lmfao.” Shortest name change ever?

Twitter Beef with Waka Flocka Flame: March15, 2013
It’s one thing to drop your former bff from your label, it’s another to do it on Twitter. Gucci let fans know that Waka was no longer down with Brick Squad by writing, “Waka flacka flames officially dropped off brick squad 1017. Big Guwop say give me a offer fa this disloyal lil n—.”

Twitter Hack? March 18, 2013
Shortly after he blasted Waka on Twitter, Gucci##Q##s rep claimed that his account was hacked. “Gucci##Q##s twitter was hacked,” record label rep, Rahim Wright tweeted, “Just spoke with his manager. All kinds of crazy DMs and what not.” Waka didn’t seem to buy the explanation and tweeted “#MentionAH–AssN—-“ as well as “Dont let da media fool u. This sh– real Shawty.”

Spring Breakers: March 22, 2013
One of the best things that happened to Gucci this month was his unexpected cameo in the dark teen flick “Spring Breakers” alongside Selena Gomez, James Franco and Vanessa Hudgens. “Honestly, he did that on the low. He knew I was gonna laugh at him,” one-time bff Waka told MTV News when the trailer premiered. “He did that on the low. I can##Q##t wait to see it.”

Army Assault: March 23, 2013
Gucci was arrested for allegedly assaulting an army soldier. The soldier claims that Gucci hit him over the head with a champagne bottle while at a nightclub in Atlanta. The solider, who returned home from a stint in Afghanistan in October, claims he just wanted to snap a pic with the rapper but Gucci flipped out and attacked him, leading to 10 stitches and a concussion. The alleged victim said afterwards, “He could have possibly killed me. I just hope and pray that I recover pretty well because I still want to serve my military career.”

Shots from Waka: March 26, 2013
It was only a matter of time before Waka went on the offensive and fired shots at Gucci Mane, following their Twitter snafu. While performing with Dipset in NYC, Waka remixed his verse on “848” with “Fly young ni–a rob you with some Louis,/Run up on my bus got burned now he tryna sue me/F-ck that ni–a Gucci, free my ni–a Boosie/I swear to God my life is like a f-cking movie.”

Assault Part 2: March 26, 2013
If one assault allegation weren’t enough, Gucci snagged another. In addition to the Army soldier who claims he was hit upside the head with a champagne bottle, a second man came forward with a similar story. I haven##Q##t ever been so humiliated in my life and disrespected,” the alleged victim said. He claims he tried to shake Gucc’s hand and got punched.

At press time, Gucci had not surrendered himself for either assault charge.

Dipset Celebrates 10 Years Of Diplomatic Immunity With Waka Flocka, Lloyd Banks

It was a New York state of mind  on Monday night (Mar 25) as Dipset celebrated the 10th anniversary of their Diplomatic Immunity album with a special concert at B.B. King Blues Club. Hosted by Hot 97##Q##s Funkmaster Flex and his site InFlexWeTrust, the show was steeped in rap nostalgia as Cam##Q##ron, Jim Jones, Juelz Santana and Freekey Zekey performed their collective hits as well as solo sets.

“We taking it to the Tunnel…We ain##Q##t doing bottles we doing mixed drinks tonight!” Flex prefaced the show, referencing the famous Tunnel nightclub where acts like DMX made their mark in the late 90s.

Kicking off with “Ground Zero,” it was clear that the Harlem boys were “back at it.” The crowd, replete with retro rap fans and goons, relished in tracks like Cam##Q##s “Welcome to New York City” (without Jay-Z, unfortunately), Jimmy##Q##s “Day ##Q##n##Q## Nite” remix or, as he put it, his “anthem” when he goes to court and Juelz##Q##s “Oh Yes.”

After seemingly disappearing for Jim and Juelz##Q##s sets, Cam##Q##ron came back for a solo set that proved to be the show##Q##s highlight. From “Oh Boy” to “Get ##Q##Em Girls” and “Wet Wipes,” it was clear that fans have been in dire need of solo material from Killa.

Waka Flocka Flame and Lloyd Banks jumped onstage for surprise cameo appearances on “848″ and “Beamer, Benz or Bentley.” Finally, the whole team joined forces for the show##Q##s closing which included the fan favorites “Dipset Anthem” and “I Really Mean It,” still sounding as hard-hitting as ever, a decade later.
